Maid of the Mist - Herbert L. Clarke (Landon Gray, Cornet Soloist)

Over the course of a few weeks this summer, we were lucky enough to get together and record some pieces we love in some really beautiful places. Maid of the Mist is the first installment of our summer recording project, and we are excited to share it with you!
This first video was recorded in a gazebo just down the street from our house and was perfect for this piece. It is reminiscent of the bandstands of the 19th century, where music like this would have been performed. We feature Landon Gray as cornet soloist on Herbert L. Clarke’s thrilling piece “Maid of the Mist”, composed in 1912, and arranged for Chautauqua Brass by Bobby Fisco.

About bandstands:
An account by the Daily Express writer Jack Donaldson was published in 1937: ‘I arrived on time but there was no room on the seats or the railings, so I leant against a tree and enjoyed the music. The children danced to it, played ball to it, sang to it and ignored it, The grown-ups, all listening, sat round on their wooden seats or leant against the green railings and were happy.’
