My dad had a loud voice, sometimes had no idea if he was yelling or talking haha. My grandpa was the same. Love this guy's. So funny. And so genuine. These are real things. My dad always said he got whipped as a kid. He didn't want to be that way with me and my brother. Never was spanked. But got yelled at a lot. Ha. He mostly did what you said. Just sat us down and talked. Life lessons. I understand that red zone. I have a bad habit of taking things out on my husband or projecting to my daughter, we call it crazy mom time. My daughter is exactly like my so we push against each other so much when we are both having what we call nour bipolar moments. It sucks.. then we are good and I think what the hell is wrong with me. So as you say, I've been noticing more lately, and I catch myself more, which is so much better than fighting ya know? On a side note I really need to buy your book. Is it on Amazon. Or through a website?

Dominic is the best actor to go toe to toe with Maurice. Their senses of humor and depth of vulnerability as actors are so well matched as father and son characters. So so happy Dominic is back, and hope he sticks around. Loved that he came on to talk about such personal topics.

I’m Greek, too and we are yellers. We are very loud people even when we are not angry. My mom used to chase me with a wooden spoon or a slipper when I misbehaved. When my son was young, he wasn’t intimidated by me yelling at him at all. One day, I caught myself taking my anger out on my very smart, strong-willed, and large son. I regretted it instantly and vowed never to do it again. He still frustrates the heck out of me but I just stick to yelling. He’s now 6 feet tall and towers over me! Thanks for sharing.

I lived in Costa Rica a little over 2 years & while the guy dated from there for a year unfortunately lost his favorite cousin in a bad work accident. At the family gathering, night before the service, he started to cry, his mother & aunts told him to stop crying. This broke my heart. So one minute the women there complained about how the men were too heartless but the next they didn’t let them have feelings? As well, they treat them like babies, so how can they grow up to be strong men over the household with such mixed signals. My paternal grandfather is from Cuba & they always loved my brother more. So seeing this is Costa Rica brought her his to light even more. It’s heartbreaking & affects the whole family.

My mother was very abusive to my sister and I when we were growing up (and in some ways she still is). The main thing that helped me develop a better relationship with my own child was coming to the realization that the flip side of my anger was actually disappointment. That mindset helps me even with strangers. For example, when someone cuts me off when I'm driving, I initially get mad because (for some reason lol) I expect better from them and when I realize that's where the bulk of my anger comes from, it helps me calm down a lot faster. Approaching my daughter from that perspective, especially when she was little, has made a world of difference and it's allowed us to have open dialogue with each other instead of going off or shutting down. Great video.

Maurice and Dominic, I got the belt too from my dad between the ages of 6-12. Got slapped several times from both parents. I was only hit once w/ a closed fist from dad that gave me a bloody nose at age 12. Discipline was a serious thing back in the 70s/80s and it may have kept me out of jail and going w/ the wrong crowd. Unfortunately, my dad doesn't remember a damn thing about the belt or anything else. I kind of wanted him to apologize before it's too late. Thanks for this show.

I loved your book! I started it last Sunday and finished it on Tuesday... could have finished sooner if not for responsibilities. EMDR didn’t work for me either!! There’s no doubt you have bipolar, but has anyone ever mentioned a PTSD co-diagnosis? You have been dealt a lot of blows in life! I have anxiety, but counselors have also diagnosed me with PTSD due to the multiple traumatic experiences I’ve had. Also... you gotta stop dying your hair on the show!! EXCELLENT! As a female mental health therapist who has worked in prison (25 Years), it would be so good to have male role models like the two of you discussing (and elaborating) this. Most guys in prison still believe the lies and think beating their kids make them better- despite the fact of where they are sitting, in large part b/c of their poor, abusive parenting histories. Multigenerational transmission of dysfunction... it needs to be broken... Go volunteer to work with men in prison, doing things like this, please.

My Dad used his WW2 PARATROOPER BELT on us.
My sister raised me cuz mommy died when I was 6 months old. She was 14.
My brother joined the USMC and survived Beirut barracks bombing in '83. And I have worked retail since '87.
We got our family issues like any other. But we are decent folks with adult children.
    And then something clicks.
It's BECAUSE you LOVE THE PERSON, that's why it hurts so badly; when someone fails, gives up, is sick, addicted, abusive. Or because someone you love hurts you deeply.
    I mean deeeeeeeply hurt.
Would you feel emotionally pained as much with a stranger as you would with your OWN SON? DAUGHTER?
    No.
That is EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY. AND the love of your fellow man.
    It's different, I think.
You have come full circle. Don't worry gentlemen.
    You're doing just fine.

I am so grateful to you and all your guests. If I could make you a huge thank you card I would. :-) I have struggled with mental illness for as long as I can remember. I have a wide variety of things that don't work quite right. I have hidden must stuff from my friends (except for the Bipolar stuff). Professionally, I hid most of it. Sometimes I would share with clients when they just needed to know someone was there. Not very often at all. I decided about a year ago that I am not going to hide who I am anymore. Fuck em. I am now trying to figure out how I work and deal with the stuff I deal with. Mr. Bernard, I use you as an example of how it can be done. I use your guests as examples of how it can be done. I hope you get this message because I really want you to know you are affected people out here. I love your performances. And I really think you are very suited for helping people to talk.

I wouldn't say they look like mountain men because that makes me think of "Deliverance" lol. They look like two Harley men to me.

You will complete the mission Dom! Loool. 😂 Gotta love these 2!😊 Dom my last name is never pronounced right.
Gagliardi the GLI is really a silent G so pronounced as if it's Galiardi. Americanized way is Gag-li-ar-di . So we go by Gags. It's just easier nickname. You 2 stud muffins shave your mugs 😂😂😎😎 My Dad was a throat grabber when younger & irate. I was blue once he was so mad I was stoned on pot at like 15 and had to dig nails an inch deep in arms to pull him off. Dom, mine was really apologetic and especially with Marks on me. Near tears. So it's old school parents , born in Other Countries, Maurice.Don't hold that pain. Look how much your Dad loves and appreciates you! Same here❤ Josh isn't scared of anyone.💯I think he's gonna defy Paula there and be a Boxer.( it can get dicey) I'm dying!😂That was good Maurice!
Sorry Paula, no disrespect Mam,but I see a beast in making Boxing wise! 👊Don't get mad at me please, but he's a fearless kid.You want the music and acting so your baby won't get hurt. Oh, You like the Italian culture Maurice & if you had to be anything else you would choose Italian LOL I say that because the way you made Sonny. That is an Italian like wise guy! I wish shocked when I realized you weren't Italian. Then again early on Vic Many from NJ played Sonny's enforcer a few times. God rest his soul! 🙏So you we're exposed to men of that way.
