Going to that spring and cleaning it out. That took me back . Daddy would all ways go and clean the spring out. I Loved that he has been gone a long time now and i have moved away. I moved from mountains to fl and when i got my own place The water was not fit to drink. I could not believe it. I miss those Days that have gone by. Those were the Best years of my life..
Love your channel! Watched for the first time last week. Within minutes tears came to my eyes as I remembered my childhood. I live in the Tennessee Valley of north Alabama, but my people came from the hills and mountains of central Alabama, north Georgia, and eastern Kentucky. Thank you so much for keeping it alive and sharing.
I love all 3 of ya'll's channels & wish I'd found them in 2018 when I got this computer, I watch them for hours while I crochet. Tipper, I love your whole family. You (and they)are very blessed; & ya'll have been a blessing to me.

Thank you for keeping Appalachian culture alive and well. I love the bluegrass and gospel too. I live in the north Georgia mountains just down the way from y’all. My people are from Micaville Alabama. It makes me so happy to see your gals, the next generation, enthusiastic about the music and the life in the mountains. I made a cornpone in my granny’s skillet and a mess of green tonight too. Keep the great videos coming and I can’t wait until the next one is out. 🌞😄🎻🎼
The kind of food my mom used to cook. Beans, cornbread cooked in an iron skillet. Where’s The buttermilk ? Need buttermilk to crumble your cornbread into. Looks delicious! God bless you lovely folks.

Absolutely lovely, i'm working on a cast iron skillet collection. and that percolator reminds me of when I was young. Dad had one, and i feel they were better than todays coffee makers. Thank you for a glimpse into your daily life :))
Used a stove percolating before moving down to Florida 3 months ago , forgot how much I miss mine, got a little one in the car I was going to use in case there was an emergency. There's something about fresh perked coffee, waiting for that brown liquid to start it's little dance captured in the little glass top and watch the darkness of the coffee increase. Think I'll break out the little pot tomorrow.

Your girls are so lovely and very talented!!! I had many family members when I was growing up (again in eastern NC) who were musical.....including my daddy. I guess I thought everybody's daddy came home from work, sat down with his guitar and sang those wonderful old songs while mama cooked supper.
My granny Fields had a hand dug well, and they found a petrified log and petrified walnuts digging it, it was full of iron and Sulphur, and was not real good for drinking, but Okay for washing dishes, and less so for washing clothes. We drank it anyways. I sure miss my granny, but she was born in 1904, lived a long but cut short by cancer life. I remember going to her grave after she was buried, it was a cold icy winter night, and I felt so bad for her.
Hi Tipper. I'm a subscriber to your Blind Pig and The Acorn newsletters and am glad to find you here. My dad was from Gastonia and my Pawpaw and Granny were from Tennessee. Turtletown was its name. I was born and raised in New York state but got to spend summers with my dad's folks and we always had good food and lots of hugs.
Appalachians love to add peppers and onions to every meal, and you have to add a slice of tomato and cucumbers to the plate to eat with it! That’s how my friends and family always do it here in southern West Virginia. Thanks for documenting a wonderful way of life.
I’m Irish and Scottish. My mom’s ancestors are from Ireland and my dad’s are from Scotland. They moved to Nova Scotia (New Scotland), Canada. My dad’s brother had a twin, who died of pneumonia as a infant in Canada due to Canada’s notoriously frigid cold. My dad was a few years old when the family moved to the states and settled in Boston. Dad was a good musician. He played the Fiddle, Mandolin and even the drums. I took Fiddle lessons in school around the 6th grade but that was it. Wish I continued lessons, especially hearing Corie and Katie play. I really enjoy listening to you read and tell the old stories. Reminds me of my dad (born 1913) telling me stories. Thank you, Tipper for sharing and reading. God Bless
Watching you walk thru the woods reminds me. My Grandpa always used a walking stick. South Carolina side. He called it his chicken stick cuz that dogs abig dog and I'm chicken. Good memory.
Can't tell you how very much I am enjoying all of your videos. The My Life in Appalachia series and the vocabulary series and all the great music. Just good family life. I had that growing up so many years ago and tried to give that to my sons who have tried to pass that on to my grandchildren. Thank you so very much. Nothing that I have seen have I not enjoyed!
You all are making me miss living near them Appalachian mountains listening to this awesome blue grass gospel music. My friend Greg Sykes dad CE Sykes had a bluegrass band. Many weekends as a young boy his dad's band would pick and sing bluegrass songs under their carport back in the 1970's.
This episode brought back so many wonderful memories of my childhood growing up with my Grandparents (Pap and Gram) in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. Waking up to the aroma of good old fashioned percolating coffee and a farmers breakfast, always put a big smile on my face!! And a nice long walk in the woods was always a great way to beat stress, learn survival techniques and bond with loved ones. Thank you so much for sharing daily life in Appalachia. You're bringing back lots of great memories - and - teaching this old dog some new tricks!! :-)
Now at 18:05 in your video..... it’s 6:30pm here now....just ate about an hour ago and that was a pretty heavy meal.... but watching your video here made me a sight hungry! We had spring water growing up. My grandpaws brother drilled a well and got iron water and my grandpaw said thats why he liked a spring because you could test the water out before you spent the money to put it in the house lol. Enjoying your videos!
Mother's friend upstate in Cortland NY had a spring house way out behind the barn, it creeped us out when we were kids. Actually, her house did, too. It was over 100 years old back in 1968. I wish I could see it now!
I remember hauling water from our spring, it was below the grade of our home and could not be gravity so our Mother and us boys carried our pales down each day to collect some of the best tasting water I have ever had the pleasure of. To this day, I have never had better-tasting water.

@@CelebratingAppalachia I hope y’all have a blessed week. 🙏🙏❤️
Love your family values. Shows in all of you. Your what helps to make America Great.
I remember hauling water from our spring, it was below the grade of our home and could not be gravity so our Mother and us boys carried our pales down each day to collect some of the best tasting water I have ever had the pleasure of. To this day, I have never had better-tasting water.
I am so glad I found your podcasts. I have loved every one of them and look forward to every new one. Thank you for helping us keep in touch with our heritage.
And beautiful harmony.
"Where the Soul of Man Never Dies" is, I think, my favorite that your girls sing. Well, I also love "In the Garden" and several others. Okay, fine...I like bunches. :)
Lordy, I could listen to them girls sing all day.
