Protesting Spanish farmers play football and cook food on blocked motorway

Spanish farmers blocked a highway at the border of France and Spain on Monday (June 3), days before the bloc's residents vote in the European Parliament elections.
Hundreds of farmers drove their tractors into the A7 highway and congested the border point, a follow-up on similar EU-wide protests earlier this year against what farmers say are unfair European Union farming laws and unfair competition.
The 27-nation EU has already weakened some parts of its flagship Green Deal environmental policies, removing a goal to cut farming emissions from its 2040 climate roadmap.
The European election kicks off on Thursday (June 6), as most of the bloc's countries will cast their ballots on Sunday (June 9).
