I’ve said this before but, Sorry Sorry is legit an acquired taste. And by that I mean, the longer you like Kpop the more you like this song. FR - It’s a thing. This song is Legendary and every Kpop fan should like it - period 😜😆

You can always tell newer KPop fans by their reactions to older performances. I can see how you wouldn’t like it when comparing it to new groups and performers. But this was 12 years ago. Like you auto tuned vocals especially from a group with such stellar vocalists seems a crime. This song is considered the song that changed and popularized KPop outside of Korea. It has been covered by tons of other idol groups and is seen as sort of a KPop anthem.

It's almost impossible to be a fan of Kpop and not know Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry" LOL. This is one of THE MOST iconic Kpop songs and choreo of all time. "Sorry Sorry" came out in 2009 and it is what shot Super Junior into intentional superstardom. EVERY single person and their grandparents in Korea knows this song and can dance the dance. "Sorry Sorry" is the one song that everyone in the industry knows and is practically required to perform at least once in their careers. This song is so well known and so iconic that it is the most well known Kpop song around the world and when it came out it became an international trend. Groups of people were getting together in 2009/2010 and learning this dance and song and posting it all over the internet. The song was so big that even an entire prison population in the Philippines learned this dance and performed it. You can find thousands of clips of groups of people from all around the world performing this song and even grandmothers have formed dance teams and aerobics workout classes around this song and choreo. You can also find clips of pretty much any Kpop group or artist performing a cover of this song and dance as part of their standard rookie debut.
You should really look up the English translation of the lyrics to see what they are talking about. Fun fact: In the lyrics some of the English lines they are saying, "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Shawty, shawty shawty shawty." ;p They are saying shawty like the American slang term for shorty -- as in, slang for what a guy sometimes calls their girlfriend.
All 13 members are part of "Sorry Sorry" -- I think this might be the last MV where we see all 13 of the original members together in one MV. (Kibum and Hangeng officially left the group in 2010.)
Super Junior debuted Nov. 6, 2005, so this year will be their 16th anniversary. The members currently range in age from 38-32. (During "Sorry Sorry" they were 25-21) That's why they have a more mature and classy look and feel to their most recent MVs and songs and that's why you often see them dressed in suites. They are all men, not boys. LOL But as you will soon discover, they are one of the most unique groups when it comes to the dynamics of the members personalities -- they truly are fun, crazy, over the top and aren't afraid to just let their freak flag fly when they interact with each other. They truly are a group of brothers that have been together for so many years that nothing is off limits and they don't hide their true selves from the cameras. LOL
Super Junior are known for their story based MVs, their catchy choreography and their goofy fun concepts. Some of their other songs you should check out, if you haven't already, are "Danger" by Super Junior-D&E; "Black Suit" and "Devil" by Super Junior; and Super Junior-M's "Swing". (Super Junior-M is Super Junior's Mandarin sub-unit so if you react to them maybe consider reacting to the Chinese/Mandarin versions of the songs because that's the original version.)

This song was why KPOP became KPOP - it was why KPOP became global. This was released 2009 so auto-tune was the "it thing" back in the day. This style of music was the TREND: SHINEE's Ring Ding Dong is another example. It's understandable that newer KPOP fans wouldn't like this type of music, but if you're a 2nd gen fan (like myself), you'd know why this was a hit back in the day. Sorry Sorry won a total of 12 (or was it 13 lol - couldn't recall anymore since it's 12 years ago) wins in music shows and got a Golden Disk Daesang (highest honors). It was played all over Korea and used widely in variety shows (and even in KDrama. It was what got me into KPOP. I heard this in a Kdrama). Sorry Sorry was choreographed by Michael Jackson and JT's choreographers. Which is why you'd see it was kinda familiar.
As an ELF myself, I sometimes feel bad but at the same time understand why people wouldn't like Sorry Sorry (and Bonamana and Mr. Simple). These 3 songs are their TRIPLETS - the Super Junior trademark music with repeated and addicting choruses. Newer KPOP fans wouldn't be hooked because today's KPOP sound IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT that what we had in what we call THE GOLDEN ERA OF KPOP before.
Also, Super Junior is a group with SUPERIOR vocals and auto-tuning them is A CRIME. But, like what I've said, it was the thing back in those days. SUJU won't be who they are now if not for this song. But actually, I know you'd like SORRY SORRY ANSWER more - the R&B version of this song. I have seen your other Super Junior reactions (the ones that are more trendy nowadays) and so I know that you like them. So thanks!

Oh, boy. This is a trip. Apparently I still know the chorus after all these years. This was the autotune, simple beat Kpop era. It still holds up for me, probably due to nostalgia than anything.

  • @Matt-ss2cp

Sorry Sorry is a K-pop classic! The choreo is definitely what kicks it over the top. ELFs are starting to dislike it because they sing it so much, but we can’t help dance along whenever they perform it. Live performances (without auto tune) are much better, and Heechul’s drum part is a good addition to the performance as well! Definitely not everyone’s taste (not one of my favorite songs from them), though it did grab big awards and charts during its era!

  • @sharlenesmith5606

Have you any idea the cultural phenomenon this song has become? There's even a video out there, where prisoners were taught this routine and did it for Family Day. On the yard, orange jumpsuits and all. Play it anywhere in the world and someone will more than likely know it. It was that big!

  • @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan

The thing with Super Junior is that not everyone dances the same way. They all dance in unison, but they definitely are not the same when they dance. That's the charm of Super Junior is that they do not all have the same dancing style, but they dance really well. Now, this was 12 years ago, and everyone used autotune, all the beats were generic, and not a whole lot of complexity in the song. This would be in the style of like Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, T-Pain, Lady Gaga, you know all the older 2000s artists. So it's not meant to be the best song ever, but it's probably one of the most nostalgic and most rememberable from this era back in the 2000s.

It’s always interesting seeing people who got into Kpop later react to older songs. One thing I will say though is that this song is definitely not a guilty pleasure song at all. This song is one of the biggest Kpop songs ever. It was a cultural phenomenon that really broke records and out Kpop on the map on a more global level, so it’s interesting hearing y’all’s opinion compared to what the song is and means to the culture. This came out in 2009 btw. I’m really loving these throwback Thursday reactions just because it’s always interesting to see how newer fans think of the older joints. I’ve been a Kpop fan since the late 90’s so I’m an OG fan 😂

Just to clarify, "Sorry Sorry Answer" is not a remix of "Sorry Sorry." They were both released in 2009 and created as a duo. Although "Sorry Sorry Answer" has a few of the same lines and samples the melody from "Sorry Sorry" -- it is not the R&B version of "Sorry Sorry" -- they are separate songs that are considered partner songs because the story kind of continues from one song to the next. "Sorry Sorry" came out in March 2009 and "Sorry Sorry Answer" was released in December 2009 as SuJu's answer to what they are talking about in "Sorry Sorry." Similar to "This Is Love" and "Evanesce" -- both pairs of songs are supposed to be different sides of the same story.
You should look up the English translation of both songs to see what I mean. :D

I wasn’t a fan when I first heard it either, but I soon found myself going dun dun dun dadun… 😆 and it grew on me..
I think the grainy black and white MV doesn’t really do the choreography justice. If you have some spare time watch a live version and you’ll probably see more energy and also a cleaner performance …
But it’s all good, you can still appreciate and love a group without having to love every song they put out. Thanks for another awesome reaction guys!

Donghae's solo just came out, Eunhyuk's is next and then we have a Super Junior D&E comeback. I know it's seems old and weird now, but you have to remember, Sorry Sorry was from 2009 and part of its charm was the fact that everyone could sing along and do the choreography. It really helped spread Kpop beyond the boundaries of Korea. You might also want to try It's You by Super Junior as a throwback. It's from the same album as Sorry Sorry, but a completely different feel. I think you'd like it a lot better.

To give a bit context, kpop idols hype kinda died off after 1st generation even when new group debut but idols scene got a huge turnover when Wonder Girls made comeback with a catchy hook song, Tell Me in 2007 that became viral in the whole South Korea. That's why when in 2008 WG came back with Nobody & again became a viral sensation, Girl's Generation Gee & Super Junior Sorry Sorry instantly became a hit in 2009. Besides, back then kpop idols songs, dances & mvs were a lot simpler than nowadays. Don't worry it's just a thing of different times.

Oh man u got this one completely Wrong. That's the most iconic song from a boy band in Korea during that time, still is but that was a heavy trend then and I'm tired of hearing kpop idols doing Michael Jackson and other brown or dark skinned moves from singers in the USA. First and foremost! Everyone COPIES MOVES SINCE THE DAWN IF MUSIC EVEN JACKSON TOOK JAMES BROWN SHUFFLE MOVE, IT ALWAYS HAPPENS! SUPER JUNIOR IS NOR ANY IDOL TRYING TO COPY MOVES. Easy rule to live by as a dancer. If the move works for a particular step that's been used before to make it pop then ut will be placed into the main music chorus or step. That's all the did but there's 0 comparisons to any American artists dances severely. If Jackson or Omarion did this no one would complain but kpop does it it's copied. Sorry, Sorry,...But...NO! Some tributes happen in kpop but that's pretty rare alot but that's all. Everything else is Fresh!

The thing I don't understand is why people are obsessed with talking about N-words when it goes to "sunshine rainbow white pony", but no one mentioned it while listening to "Sorry Sorry", this is not fair

I love your channel, and you're very much in sync with my taste regarding newer K-Pop stuff. But I must admit I'm often disappointed by your reactions to older stuff. To call something dated etc is a bit lazy. History should be taken on its own terms, and in art there's no such thing as "evolution", only in the area of the technology perhaps (eg image quality, thats why we're getting the remastered videos from SM at the moment). I dont understand why people who are so admirably open minded about culture as you are, are so narrow minded regarding history. Eg the bw aesthetic of the SORRY SORRY video is quite sophisticated, it reminds me of the Beatles films by Richard Lester. The choreography is by Nick Bass and Trent Dickens, two of the very best who worked with the likes of Michael Jackson. Personally I dont like autotune either, and SuJu dont need it, but yes, it was not only a thing back then, it is of a piece with the whole minimalist concept of this, which was a great and clever contrast to the usual excess of K-Pop. So even though Im biased, because I love SuJu, I think there's a lot that's interesting and deserves respect, and not even just for its time, because it was groundbreaking or because it's still a classic, but because a lot of skill, style and effort was put into it.
