I wouldn't say early 40's is 'too late' for anything related to investing. If you have at least 20 years left to put money into the market then I think growth is a nice way to lean. I believe Mr Bogle's talking about human temperament. He's saying that it's so easy for investors to bail out of their etf funds instead of staying the course. Jack is forewarning investors about human behavioural consequences of taking on etfs. RIP Jack.
Total BS click bait title for this video. Bogel has NOTHING against ETFs!!! He just made the observation that the ability to get out the same day is little help to anyone rather than wait a few hours for a non ETF mutual fund. He points out that the return on ETFs and their standard counterparts is the same; the portfolios are the same. And he says some funds out there are pretty silly.
Thanks to Jack for teaching me more about investing than I could have imagined. I love videos of him ...It's like listening to Santa Claus except he's real
Brilliant guy and I love Vanguard. So thank you for that, sir. May you rest in peace. No wonder, every financial institution I worked at did not allow us to maintain Vanguard accounts (IRAs or whatever preceded that employment). They always offered choices of their own services (obviously) and some outrageously overpriced garbage to pretend that they give choices. They absolutely abhorred the idea of "muppets" discovering Vanguard model.
The title is misleading. It is only a particular kind of ETF (specific, vague, narrow sector such as "cancer research" or "cloud computing") that he does not like.
Not sure why he wouldn’t like ETF’s? Unlike mutual funds, where you only get the NAV price at the close of the market, ETF’s trade continuously through the day and allow you to sell if there is a market meltdown, and buy on daily dips.
When selling an etf, the market doesn't have to meet your selling price but when selling your mutual fund the broker must pay you the nav at the end of the day
Misleading title just to be eye-catching. Jack Bogle in support of ETFs tracking total stock market, S&P, international, emerging markets and bonds with limitation.
3:18, I'm a web developer and I work in marketing. I know a bit about "the cloud" and when I saw the holdings of one of these "Cloud" funds Jack is described. The expense ratio of 0.68 set my marketing alarm went off. Buying an ETF is buying a share of that fund, not bits of the stocks within it. They can change at any time and you're putting a lot of trust in that fund manager.
Rationally I don't get his argument against niche ETFs, if they are small - they may be a problem, but if they are large and authoritative, why not? Why is Cloud Computing ETF bad EXACTLY?
I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.
The issue is most people have the "I want to do it myself mentality" but not equipped enough for a crash, hence get burnt, no offense. In general, Financial Consultants are ideal reps for investing jobs, and at firsthand encounter, since Jan.2020, amidst covid outbreak, my portfolio has yielded massively in ROI, summing up to 7-figures as of today.
Triple leveraged TQQQ makes sense to me. Sure it goes down sometimes, every investment does. But I never lose all the gains, and I'm usually farther ahead than if I had just bought QQQ for the same period. And usually it doesn't take long to bounce back from any down period. I'm up 137.5% on TQQQ. During the same timeframe QQQ is only up 47.15% and the S&P500 is only up 26.6%. I don't care if Jack Bogle approves or not.
I don't know what's wrong with the ETFS? I have one ETF for each Asian market. I also have several for various sectors in other countries. The point is they diversified my money and they all pay dividends.
At least with an ETF you aren't giving 5.5% or more of your initial investment to a "financial advisor". For most people, a self-directed Roth or traditional IRA with a broad market or index ETF is far better than having a significant chunk of your returns eaten up by loads, administrative fees, and other charges.
In case anybody is wondering -- the Cloud Computing ETF that he didn't like in this video has significantly outperformed the S&P500 since this video was posted. SPY total returns are at roughly 2x, while SKYY total returns are 2.7x, after fees.

5 basis points leveraged inversely funded mutually within aggregate convertible index is conversely affected of averages daily or mid daily sometimes hourly.
He's really just making the same old criticism about active investment and stock picking versus investing in a broad index. Not about ETFs as investment vehicles, but about the shortcomings of active investing as a strategy.
Jack Bogle indeed preferred index mutual funds over ETF's but that's not the topic of this interview He preferred index mutual funds precisely because they cannot be traded like ETF's can www.etfstream.com/features/jack-bogle-never-liked-etfs-heres-why/
Thank you Mr. Bogle for the creation of index fund and give the a chance to the people to reap the great and stable return of the market in the long-term without paying the astronomical expense fee. Your work will be forever cherished and celebrated! May you rest in peace!
A leveraged etf is a trading instrument, not an investment. Short ETFs give people acess to hedging that normally don't short. Industrial ETFs allow you to balance more into industries you think will do well. I agree that the ultra focused ETFs are kind of dumb.
Vanguard was not the first to offer an index fund. Wells Fargo Bank in 1971 established the first low-cost index fund. Bogle's index fund was established in 1975.

I didn't have a grandfather so I like to think of him as my grandfather giving me advice.
What is the best way to profit from the current market, meanwhile I'm still undecided about investing $400k in my stock portfolio to get some dvidends and minimize risk
Remember that investing in the stock market carries risks, and it’s important to do your own research and consult with a financial advisor before making any investment decisions.
With the help of an investment advisor, I was able to diversify my $550K portfolio across multiple markets, and in just a few months, I was able to earn over $950K in net profit from high dividend yielding stocks, ETFs, and bonds
Pls who is this coach that guides you? I’m in dire need of one
My consultant is Nicole Desiree Simon She has since provide entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. You can look her up online if you care for supervision.
I Found her online page by searching her full name, I wrote her an email and scheduled a call, hopefully she responds soon. Thanks
"the crazier the idea, the stupider the idea, the greater chance that no one has thought of it" - my new mantra for rest of 2020
haha I like him, "go for it man". Vangaurd funds are actually one of the better ones in my book.
Nice
RIP jack I’m positive you’re in great place and thank you for everything.
Bogle sees all these new investors coming up with all these ridiculous concepts and just says "What The Fuck???"
This guy sounds like RFK Jr looks, and looks like RFK Jr sounds! 😂 Good tips!
RIP Jack, your philosophy will forever live through me, thank you for giving the average man hope and saving us, to Vanguard we go.
Jack made some excellent points. It begs the question of whether some managers are investing or gambling. It's supposed to be a market, not a casino.
Those managers ar Dumping your assets so the can buy them cheap. Then doing the same thing when the stocks are high pumping it so they can sell.
He doesn’t criticise ETFs. This title is shite.
God Bless you Jack. Changed and helped so many lives
What do you mean, vanguard model
Change the title ffs. Vanguards main products are ETFs
When selling an etf, the market doesn't have to meet your selling price but when selling your mutual fund the broker must pay you the nav at the end of the day
His voice caught me off guard lol he sounds younger than he looks
Yeah. He's talking like a young man. Not mental deficiency or decline in old age.
Like a commenter mentioned .. He sounds way sharper than he looks. Too bad he caught the aging disease
He is 86 though, so he cant look any younger really. His mind is sharper than most 20 or 30 or 40 something year olds.
Why can’t people make there own s&p index tracker. What does it take and do we really need the extra risk of buying an etf?
“Go for it man!” Wise words!
I am a simple man, I see Sir Jack Bogle, I press like
Good
this is where Boogle and Buffet disagree. Wide diversification vs narrow diversification.
I love his voice..
Bogle was concerned ETFs were going to encourage trading, not long term investing.
The title is misleading..... He didnt say he dislikes ETF, he dislikes the stupid ones..
Don’t see any computers in the room.
i agree..INTENTIONALLY PUT A MISLEADING TITLE..
Misleading title just to be eye-catching. Jack Bogle in support of ETFs tracking total stock market, S&P, international, emerging markets and bonds with limitation.
Correct, they need click bait lol
Can someone please explain what's wrong with a cloud computing ETF?
Young voice !! Wow
RIP and thank you for all!
I miss him
Such a misleading title
Miss this guy. The investing world will miss his insights
Rationally I don't get his argument against niche ETFs, if they are small - they may be a problem, but if they are large and authoritative, why not? Why is Cloud Computing ETF bad EXACTLY?
Sehr gut gemacht, bitte weiter so!
Such a wise man. I do like ETFs though.
I trade on them
@@ethannoah5983 ETF's ca be a good tool for that given the volume... if trading works for you. I have been known to sell a few covered calls on ETFs:)
Big risk bring big rewards, just need sound risk management and you'll be fine
What a misleading click bait title
I don't know what's wrong with the ETFS? I have one ETF for each Asian market. I also have several for various sectors in other countries. The point is they diversified my money and they all pay dividends.
Perfect explanation... No matter if you buy ETF or traditional index fund that tracks a benchmark. The returns will be the same.
At least with an ETF you aren't giving 5.5% or more of your initial investment to a "financial advisor". For most people, a self-directed Roth or traditional IRA with a broad market or index ETF is far better than having a significant chunk of your returns eaten up by loads, administrative fees, and other charges.
Every time I buy a Chinese stock an hour later I'm hungry again.
In case anybody is wondering -- the Cloud Computing ETF that he didn't like in this video has significantly outperformed the S&P500 since this video was posted. SPY total returns are at roughly 2x, while SKYY total returns are 2.7x, after fees.
Wait until there is another 2001 or 2008.
@@abc-jq4hi well... now u can see who is wrong
Wow... This grandpa still got very magnetic voice with a sense of humor, clear brain and great to have him to tell us about his investment experience. Thumb up to him...............................STF.....................
True, index funds are not meant for frequent trading.

Ask yourself 2 questions based on this portfolio for your investment time horizon (1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 25 years, 100 years etc)
1) are you okay with over 95% allocation in large cap companies that may lose business to smaller cap companies by creative destruction or is there still room for them to grow ?
2) are you okay with over 95% allocation in the United States only; considering globalization of the economy when other countries are growing, industrializing , and or competing by prices, taxes , regulation etc.
Now ask yourself this. How much in portion to your available capital would you invest in QQQ?

He has suffered his first heart attack at 31.
Hes only 32 in this video
I actually heard him say he had (Spotify interview ) his first heart attack at three years old. He said he was told he would never see forty....but it is possible I mis heard him. Cheers
I don’t know why this “stupid” video was suggested to me after 11 years. I’m not talking about the content, Bogle’s words are pure gold… I’m talking about the title, which doesn’t represent Bogle's words in the least. Very scammy, Forbes.
5 basis points leveraged inversely funded mutually within aggregate convertible index is conversely affected of averages daily or mid daily sometimes hourly.
That man has a golden Radio voice!
If everybody buys ETF's then there's no market.
Next we will see a Bitcoin etf🙄
TQQQ bros we’re all gonna make it🚀
🤞😂🤞..🫣
It is one of my very deepest wishes that my mind remains so healthy and functional to such an age.
He's really just making the same old criticism about active investment and stock picking versus investing in a broad index. Not about ETFs as investment vehicles, but about the shortcomings of active investing as a strategy.
Welsch do you agree with him?
@@alexanderleo6809 Sure, I agree with Bogle.
ua-cam.com/video/SsMaskm4Vww/v-deo.html
Jack Bogle indeed preferred index mutual funds over ETF's but that's not the topic of this interview
He preferred index mutual funds precisely because they cannot be traded like ETF's can
www.etfstream.com/features/jack-bogle-never-liked-etfs-heres-why/
Always good advice from Jack! What a legend.
Thank you Mr. Bogle for the creation of index fund and give the a chance to the people to reap the great and stable return of the market in the long-term without paying the astronomical expense fee. Your work will be forever cherished and celebrated! May you rest in peace!
Some etfs are doing really good
A leveraged etf is a trading instrument, not an investment.
Whats his point?
Less is more.
Your moneys in the cloud!. Gold Gold Good interview.
What about a biotech ETF?
just buy crypto shitcoins at that point, it's more tax efficient
Where to find more content on John Bogle?
It is simply not true - there are tax advantages to ETFs, so long as you don't structure them the way that Vanguard has - as pooled vehicles.
What has Warren Buffet ever done for the average American vs a legend like this?
he didn't really explain why ETFs are so wrong other than implying there is something ridiculous about them
I can't believe how strong his mind is! I want to be like this as I age
An icon in the industry, a great man
