If I could give me take on NTR
It's very strange, NTR at first feels extremely wrong and it is. One would think "Who'd want to see a girl who has a lover get stolen easily away by a Fat Ugly Bastard?" "Who'd want to see the main character get cucked?"
I've seen few people answer that NTR is suppose to be for self inserts but I don't feel that is the mainly the appeal at all.
I think the appeal is similar to what's said in this video with the tentacles. It's the taboo and that uncomfortable feeling that the main girl is violated a disgusting gross old man and her lover doesn't find out until the end. It's a sad feeling but.. hmm. The best way I see it is, it allows you to enjoy and value Vanilla more, creating a feedback loop. However having too much Vanilla can be boring and bland at a point that one needs some Rich Chocolate, or in this case NTR.
This is all of course fiction so it's very different to reality and one being able to differentiate the 2 is a given.
@@PikaCheeks That's one specific NTR plotline. There's also male tsundere NTR where the guy doesn't even admit that he fancies the massive slut he keeps hanging around with until it becomes NTR as a final plot twist when he finally confesses his jealousy.
Not to mention tangentially NTR eroge where a skippable boy friend is included so they can just throw another fetish in the features list.
Its basically just a japanese equivilant to a cuckholdry fetish which has plenty of psycho analysis written on it just like basically all fetishes do since the term largely comes from Freud anyway.
Even the bald guy scenario has different satirical commentary. There's the rich bald guy who abuses power vs the young powerless boyfriend and there's the low social value but sexually skilled ugly bald guy vs high status bishonen boyfriend not to mention the sweet innocent girlfriend getting forced to enjoy sex being very different to the haughty arrogant girlfriend being forced to learn her actual desires differ from the socially acceptable ones.
Then there's a meta level where its easier to age into being a fat baldy than staying a young guy who may not be 'handsome' anyway so being cucked by your potential future self is more re-assuring than humiliating since the idea that women will always go for the young guy is more unbearable in the long run.
The social commentary is rarely deep but in a highly conformist society it doesn't take much to sneak it into a socially unacceptable medium such as pornography.

No this actually legitimately good! Pornography has a long and rich history which is sadly hard to explore on most popular video platforms. Documentaries on porn are often ignored in other video platforms for not being umm *sensual* enough. The best that can be done like you did is to toe the line. But often even just mentioning it is very risky, both for the sponsor and youtube, leading to little to no monetization. I'm glad squarespace sponsored you, hopefully they'll be able to sponsor other videos that are not completely SFW
Ad read is a true 10/10. If more people did ads like that I wouldn't be skipping them all the time.

As a woman who likes this stuff. I've somehow never even considered people might be into it from the tentacle's perspective. How do you even get into that? Like, how could you possibly imagine what it feels like to be a disembodied mass of tentacles? Imagining controlling so many limbs would break my brain. I always thought tentacles were a submissive fantasy.
On an octopus, each tentacle has its own brain. From a biological perspective, yeah that's pretty hard to imagine as a human but maybe guys may have an explanation for that? 🤷🏻♀️
They probably don't put themselves on the tentacle's perspective. Similar to vanilla porn, people (well, men, specially straight men who are most consumers of pornographic material) just look at the woman and enjoy seeing her without needing to put themselves on the perspective of any male that exists. This is why people may still enjoy things like orgies and gangbangs and even though they probably cannot put themselves on the perspective of multiple people.
Back in the 80s and 90s, when the examples used by Susan Napier came from, the tentacles were still attached to some form of humanoid figure, usually in the form of extendable fingers. I'd guess it's a lot easier to digest the concept.
Eventually, I think, the genre distilled the kink into purer and pure forms, leaving the tentacles and nothing else.
From what I understand, it's the fantasy of the added physical sensation of feeling what the "ropes" and... other tools are feeling with no plastic involved.

But seriously, why are sex and nudity more tabooed in media than gory violence? And I also include the scenes of sexual assault compared to genocide as well. People are more comfortable to see someone committing genocide on millions of people than raping another person on screen (or don’t even have to be rape, just two consensual people making love is enough to make the audience’s skin crawl).
I think it's because of ideas of Chastity and virginity propagated by Christianity and other similar religions, gore Isn't something most people take pleasure from and it isn't created with that in mind
sex is very private, the concept of nudity exists because of "private parts". we dont think that sex isnt meant to be shown, but that sex isnt meant to be seen.
As an American, it's literally just the western values that cause it to be that way. While they may seem like prevailing truths, they are beliefs. Watch Eastern European films, like polish and Romanian, and you will see a very different set of values.

I'm not sure what platforms it ever got released on, but there was a JRPG a few years back called The Lost Child which had Cthulhu as one of the main baddies. It was basically a knockoff of Shin Megami Tensei, except the coming apocalypse is caused by a three-way fight between Jehovah, Ra, and yes Cthulhu for control of the Earth.
It's actually a decent game too. Not great, but a solid 7/10 blobber which is worth playing for its crazy story.

I was in high school in the 90's and the local video store put ALL the anime in the kids section. My friends and I being "men of culture" decided to rent the new Anime one day... "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend". Big mistake. This was 1995 so no Internet to warm us... You can't unsee things. The series does include one character who is on the consenticle vibe.
Just image if some poor family didn't read the box and just got that for their kids. We did warn the video store owner when we returned it... After that there was an anime section at the store with proper warnings on the less family friendly stuff.
we early adopters had a very different introduction to anime than kids these days. no doubt that remained a treasured in-joke among your friends for years to come

I watched this video not because I didn't know about the history of tentacle anime. I watched it because I already knew about the history of tentacle anime and I wished to dive even more into it from other person's perspective
Despite its brevity, this is a really interesting video essay. It's a subject that probably doesn't cross a lot of people's minds willingly, in that they don't give it very much attention or thought in the same way that this video essay provokes. I'm certain that this is a rabbit hole that goes far deeper.
