I LOVE my walking foot so much. Are you going to give it a try?? You can watch me sew a plaid jumper dress, when I use it for most seams! ua-cam.com/video/Sm-otlS9gFk/v-deo.html
Oh! Is that why my waistbands grow on my circle skirts? I've been baffled. I will definitely try my walking foot next time. Matching patterns and plaids is brilliant! Thanks for the video, you've opened my mind to the possibilities. Happy sewing 🌻🍄
Light bulb moment - now I understand why my gathered waistline seams seem to end up looser than they should be 💡 Next time I'll try my walking foot 👍 Thank you so much 🙏
I agree 100%. When I go shopping abd see clothes in the windows of high-end stores with mismatchec plaids and lines, I just cringe since I took fashion design in college and started sewing in the 60s I've asked friends if they see what's wrong with a plaid pair of pants, and they can't see the plaid if the back is upside down and doesn't even try to match at the sides.
Would you believe I've been sewing for 40 years and never even tried my walking foot?! . It's probably rusty😂. I'll have my husband look at it and then I'll give it a go. Thank you so much for all the tips! ❤❤❤
SO glad that the short for this ended up in my feed. I have been sewing for years and never used a walking foot. I have one with my machine and I will DEFINITELY be using it now!!
Watching this video while sewing a new skirt. Probably going to hunt down my walking foot now as this poly crepe looks like it's going to be ✨shifty✨ lol Thanks for reminding what a helper this foot can be! ❤
@@tashacouldmakethat it's working great! All my seams are perfectly straight with no puckers or wobbles, which I don't think would've happened without the walking foot's aide. Definitely saving me from a lot of stress and frustration 💜
My walking foot is my default foot, I don’t see any reason to take it off unless I’m doing something particular. I got it for quilting but now I sew clothing mostly.
I love my walking foot. I always use it sewing gathered skirts. Today I tried for the first time on the zipper overlap to make sure my pattern matched up and it worked great. I would have never done it had I not seen you use it in an earlier video.
I've theorized that using a walking foot would be beneficial at times but it's always right in the middle of sewing a seam that I can tell is going to give me an issue. Not the ideal time for experimenting or changing the foot. So I tell myself to experiment later and then promptly forget until the next time. Thanks to this video I can skip testing my theory, but I'll still have to remember to change the foot BEFORE I start sewing the fiddly seam. Got any tips for that? 😂
A sticky note on your sewing machine! I use that all the time for things that aren't drilled into my memory to remember (like a walking foot is for me at this point). So like when I'm sewing jeans and need to change the tension for topstitching or when I'm sewing a pattern that has multiple seam allowances, I put the post-it right in my way so I can't miss it. 😂
I always like to do a little sample with a bit of the fabric... try it with a regular foot and see if it's annoying, try it with a walking foot and see if it's less annoying lol.
I've always pinned, pinned, pinned with perfect success. I always sew slow. Walking feet make a lot of noise. But, my Solaris Vision has a different type of walking foot and I'm going to take it out and start using it!
Since some machines have a dual feed, they basically *do* use it all the time! I think the only reasons I sometimes don't use it is mine is rather bulky, so it cuts down a little bit on how close I can get my fingers to the needle to maneuver things like a difficult corner. And it's a little harder to see the needle, for areas where say, you have to end *exactly* on a dot. So looking under it can be a little harder. But really, no reason not to just use it whenever!
I sew doll clothes, so my fabric pieces are very small. Shifting even a small amount can have a big effect at such a small scale. I never considered a walking foot because I have never tried one and don’t know how they work. Would it work on small (tiny!) pieces?
That's a great question, I've never sewed doll's clothing before! Or really anything teeny tiny. I don't see why it wouldn't work though, since I've sewed pretty short seams with it, like shoulder seams. Definitely worth a try, unless you feel like you need access to maneuver the little pieces around, since this foot a slightly bigger footprint, if that makes sense.
Depends on how small the doll is. I sew doll clothes for Barbie, Tiny Betsy McCall, FR2, Momoko, and Ruruko. These clothes are too small for a walking foot. Running a loose basting stitch by hand for difficult pieces saves so much time and you don't have to fight pins. For 16" and 18" doll clothes a walking foot works just fine.
I don't have a lapped zipper (the style I always use) tutorial yet, however The Closet Historian has a great tutorial on them here: ua-cam.com/video/qqTYcyMFqRo/v-deo.html
At first I thought you said you must talk to your sewing machine, like you had to ask it permission to get a new foot. Which is so funny to think of and cute. 🤣
At the time I bought it which was several years ago, I had several sewing and blogging friends who had similar Berninas and loved them, so really that's how I was drawn to it. I've loved it!

Definitely give it a try, I do find it helps! So glad the video was helpful. 🥰
I sew EVERYTHING with my walking foot (except for zippers of course!! I't's one of the best presser feet ever invented!
Yes! It's amazing!

You're welcome, happy to inspire a light bulb moment on this!! The dreaded growing waistbands are so annoying.
You have convinced me that a walking foot is the best way to go😊
Definitely give it a try, it's so helpful!
My machine has a dual feed but sometimes I still prefer to use the walking foot, like when working with velvet.
Which machine do you have? :D (i'm eyeing pfaff passport!)
What a good tip using a walking foot for long seams. Sewing trousers which end up mismatched is really annoying!
It's so helpful for those. I sometimes forget to use it on really long seams and always regret it!

Damn it! I swore off knits because my walking foot is too noisy. Now you've proven to me that I need it for everything.
😂😂 Sorry for your ears if yours is noisy but it's definitely worth it. 😁

@@thecanarypin-up yay, thanks for the update and goooo walking foot! 👏🏼👏🏼
I also love my walking foot! It's just helpful knowing the fabric behaves better under a walking foot.
It's the best isn't it! I love how much more control it gives.
I just found your channel and am finding it so informative...
Thank you for sharing your invaluable tips and how tos.
Thank you so much, and welcome to the channel! 🥰
Awesome sewing tips. Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching!

I have a Pfaff with the IDT feet and it was crazy what a difference it made!! Love it!
My mom has a Pfaff and loves that feature too!
Hey, which one do you have, and can you tell me how happy are you with it over time? :D

Thanks! 😊 It's one I finished recently, from the same vintage pattern as the dress I sewed in this video ua-cam.com/video/4suRPynsB9I/v-deo.html
I've been afraid to start sewing crinkle rayon because of how stretchy and shifty it can be...I might be tempted to try it now.

thank you for explaining that, but I wonder now why we just don't use the WF every time we sew? thanks from the UK x

@@ardethellis8930 thank you! Same! I sew for Barbie, Blythe, and Rainbow High. I won’t bother getting a walking foot then.
is there a reason to not use a walking foot all the time? (obviously except for times when you need a different specific foot like zipper etc)
just noticed someone asked almost this exact question already 🙃
No worries at all! :)
Hi Tasha, can you direct me to zip insersion tutorial please?
I don't have a lapped zipper (the style I always use) tutorial yet, however The Closet Historian has a great tutorial on them here: ua-cam.com/video/qqTYcyMFqRo/v-deo.html
For invisible zips, Google "Kenneth D King invisible zipper". Works every time, although more difficult on thicker fabrics for me.
