For myself, Daito Ryu Kodo Kai was the source of the Aiki I felt was missing.
It's very hard to put into words what is happening when feeling the "Jutsu" when exploring it.
The only way I can describe it is- If the techniques in "Aikido" can be compared to letters in the alphabet,
then "Aiki" would be the equivalent to writing a sublime Haiku and sharing that feeling with someone else.

It's not meant for that. These were palace guards. Armed guards. The only reason someone will grab a wrist or seize you in these ways is if they are a scared unarmed man trying to grab your weapon from you to kill the lord in the palace. This is the context. It's a weapon retention art. It only works also if he has a death grip and commits. If he faints and backs away, he's cut down. It wouldn't fair against a skilled wrestler or judoka.

@@Soaring_Hawk Actually Takeda used Daito Ryu in many real fights and swords were prohibeted at his time. It also works if somebody attack you with strikes and kicks.

@@trinidadraj152 No this is not enough for an explanation. It must have something to do with energy. They are also sometimes paralised even after the technique untill he loosen them.

As far as i know, Daito Ryu never allow anything to be shown in video/online (the more 'secret' things).
So what we're seeing here, is missing that vital info. We're seeing the after effect, but not seeing the technique that directly causes it.

@@Gieszkanne because they are locked under their own tension. Their brain thinks they are still grabbing the person. It can't actively tell the rest of the body to release. So it's physical and mental at the same time as the brain and it's control over the body is compromised. That's the part no one understands. So physically they lock themselves up then can't let it go because their brain doesn't know how to jump in and say hey relax it's over. I probably explained too much but honestly it won't make sense to anyone who doesn't do it anyway. I've been at it 17 years and I'm still learning.

@@Moodymongul you're seeing it but they won't explain it. Also even if they did it wouldn't matter. It takes so much repetition and practice to get your body to understand it not just mentally understand it that someone could give you a dissertation how it works and you can go try it and it wouldn't work.

No disrespect but ive never seen Kondo actually apply aiki no jutsu. I've seen him do stuff from the first two scrolls in videos then idk. That's all I've ever seen. I'm not saying he can't but I won't say he can either. I mean to get his menkyo he made a copy of Kodos then put his name on it so.....
