I think it’s funny how Pruitts beard got bigger while Jim’s it’s more trimmed down. Almost like Pruitt is taking the wisdom and teaching over the years and adding to his beard.
I'm a DMsGuild author. Shameless self-plug, but the two most-liked products of mine (platinum best sellers) are Versatile NPCs II, a collection of versatile NPC statblocks like you'd find in the monster manual, and Drizzt Do'urden's Guide to Combat, which is the ultimate guide for every aspect of running combat in D&D. This channel was even accredited for inspiring some ideas!
The anime shield hero had a whole episode about this actually. One of the other players had killed a black dragon. The problem is that that dragons corpse while riding in the mountains had infected the downstream water supply and run off. Poisoning the entire town that lay in the valley of this mountain because nobody came to deal with this Dragon after they killed it
@@WebDM I'm constantly experimenting and searching for new ways to implement more emotional investment and living, breathing relationships in my games. Obviously a lot can be done by each individual sitting at the table just by being willing and thoughtful, but having some mechanical backing and a focused, articulate expounding on these elements would have been welcome years ago. I dove through a lot of game systems trying to find one that hit the all right notes as a totalpackage, up to and including the Burning Wheel, but I never found anything that had the accessibility of 5e and the streamlined "xcom but with swords" combat rules. I'm sure this book will have a lot of good things to say. 5e is a great system, for me it just needs a little extra effort and thought added to really bring out the deeper, more rewarding role-playing aspects.
I'm a big fan of Hamund's Harvesting Handbook, I've got all three. I think it is important to point out that the author is a woman named Jasmine, which isn't reflected in the credit on DMs Guild, but if you check the Q/A section it is clearly the authors name.
Absolutely it is! It should also be noted that creators on dms guild are not just sharing their homebrew. These are actual, finished supplements- many professional designers get their start there
My players LOVE Dragonix's "Talents" books (gives a 'half-feat' at Lv 1,3, 6, 9, etc). Dragonix's Monster Manual Expansions 'levels up' MM core monsters, making higher-level play way better - a DM favorite!
25:42. Wow, that is also a great opening scenario hook; you're all 1st level, you're sitting in a tavern, when the door bursts open, a hagard looking fight and magic user announce they are 10th level adventurers who have just slain a dragon, and they want to hire a crew to help them clean out the horde and cut up the dragon.
As someone with a solo player game going with a player who wanted to romance her companion throughout the campaign that domestic hand book is gold. There's also Eberron confidential by Keith Baker that I recommend to anyone playing any setting (not just Eberron) as like the domestic companion includes background, goals ect related to mystery and noir that players and DMs can have a feild day with making characters with suspicious background forced to work together to achieve different goals.
So Pendragon is tabletop Crusader Kings?! Dragonix's Expanded Monster Manuals are kind of cool too! The add more types of monsters, basically converted blocks from 4e, giving you more options for things like goblinoids and such instead of just "hey, here's 6 goblins who all do EXACTLY the same thing"
Dragonix's Expanded Monster Manuals scare the Hell out of my players, many of which are experienced DMs. Every monster is now fearsome, even for my level 10 players.
Shameless self plug, but my free 127 page PDF called Balasar's Guide to Exploration just reached 20k downloads and has a 4.6/5 star rating, chalk full of subclasses and 4 new classes. However, it is legacy content and I no longer support it in updates. However, my next project which is a full setting (think of Zendikar from Magic the Gathering) that includes 64 subclasses, 130+ spells, 40+ feats, 50+ monsters and more, set to be released later this year. Been a fan for years
My group has been enjoying debating Balasar's Guide to Exploration Chapter 8: Optional Rules. Lots of intriguing ideas, and we've tried several of them out.
Disclaimer that I haven't watched this yet (though I'm looking forward to it!) but I wanted to submit that if you are planning to do any more videos on gaming resources it would be cool to see one on system-agnostic stuff for people playing 3.5, 4th, OSR, or even other fantasy systems like Numenera (which I know Pruitt has brought up before). I enjoyed your last video on 3rd party resources and am looking forward to more things in this vein!
I appreciate downtime mechanics more than most, but as a player, I prefer some boundaries of what I can and can't do, such as giving DM a wishlist of to-do's ahead of time and have a nice narrative macro minigame experience, spending 10-30 minutes playing out the events of several weeks or months, as opposed to a micromanaging hour by hour day by day experiences. I prefer it in a bit more montage, especially at larger tables with promises of big worlds and massive plot beats.
Some fantastic recommendations here! Nice! Hey.... if you decide to do a DriveThruRPG version of this video, let me know... I'd be happy to send you over a copy of my book to check out. Cheers Web DMers!
Do you guys reckon you'll ever get back behind the books and castle for real, or after all this madness do you think you'll continue with the remote recording?
Welp, that's a bunch of books I had not planned on buying :P But seriously, your recommendation to check SotDL for milestone progression is great, and I'll be trying that method out in my next campaign.
The harvesting book also have a second and third volume! One each for monster manual, Volo's, and Mordenkainedn's! And from all those it wouldn't be hard to figure out what creatures from other books might have.
My teenage players just yesterday. Wizard, "Are their valuable components in the doppleganger?" Me, disturbed and proud, "Err, you think the skin of this shapeshifter might be valuable." Ranger, "I'll do it, I'm good at skinning."
Just confirmed that it is working! The terms of the coupon are for 15% off of at least $15 of creator made pdfs only. Official books, older edition books, and guild adept content aren't part of it. Perhaps you've got some other things in your cart?
