Bike reviews get to technical with the specs these days. I appreciated how balanced this review was. Talked a lot about the feel and I think that’s what matters to most people
Great review, all relevant informations and also some emotions from riding it in one video 👌🏻 i'm a proud owner of the core 4 - it's the most fun bike i've ever had and the pricepoint is unbeatable for what you get 🤘🏻 the only "defect" i had was the already mentioned frame protection and the cable inlets comming loose after rough rides 🔧 but those are minor problems that doesn't really matter that much in my opinion 🤷🏻♂️
@@soli9573 depends on what type of rider you are. If you're like me and you love fidling around with all possible adjustments, experiment with new suspension settings and got the desire tune it to perfection on every trail, the core 4 is definetly the way to go. If you're more about just making a good base setup and have fun with it, the core 3 should fit your needs more than enough 👍🏻
Hey guys, i also have a jeffsy and absolutely love it. I also have the protection film peeling off problem, which is because you sometimes stripe the film with your foot. I fixed this problem by putting some tape around the film
Ordered my Core 3 in August and it just arrived in early Nov. I’m nowhere near the level of the tester (2 wheels on the ground mostly), so this bike should be much more capable than I am, with the bonus my frame protection stickers should remain on the bike! Good review.
Great bike let down by YT's customer service. The Privateer 141 and Commencal Meta TR are better bikes in my opinion. The good thing is it's hard to pick a bad bike nowadays.
I’m in between this, a Norco Optic C3 and a Privateer 141 right now and I have no clue which one to go for. I prefer the wheelset, brakes, and drivetrain on the Privateer but the geo on the Jeffsy might be more suited for me since the 141 in a P2 is really long. The Norco is my plan C just in case neither of the other two work out.
Have you watched our review of the Privateer 141? ua-cam.com/video/1phpyPpbtdo/v-deo.html Give it a look, though it sounds like you may already know what direction to go.
@@vitalmtb I watched it the day it came out and it helped me place it on my final list. I think the main benefit of the 141 for me would be how it could most definitely handle lap after lap at Snowshoe, which I last rode on a clapped out rental. Also those Hunt wheels are 👌
@@shrimpquarantine1741 you can fix any carbon frame very cheaply and easily, unlike al frames, which you have to change for a new one because al welding is problematic. I have my carbon chainstays fixed in no time(2-4 days) for 60USD. Manufacture replacement program have them for 300USD + shipping with different color scheme. So it was no brainer, you can reinforce the carbon layout so it is even stronger then a new part.
@@shrimpquarantine1741 You can even fix quite well broken carbon rims :) Two owners of our local bike shop now run only carbon rims on their bikes. Just because it can be fixed if damaged.
Not really when you look at the prices of Santa Cruz, Pivot, Yeti, etc ... Their base models are minimum $5k and that's NX builds ... X01 you're looking at $8k, so I'd argue you're actually getting a better deal nowadays then you were a couple years ago.
Im struggling between the jeffsy and the Capra. Because the 20mm more suspension. Is it worth the 20 mm more because in this video that showed all styles of riding so why should get an Capra, if you can do all the stuff with the jeffsy including better climbing ? Thank you
consider the jeffsy to be a bit more all-around than the capra. if the majority of your riding is aggressive trails and rarely flowing, up/down trails, the capra is probably best suited.
I am thinking to buy this bike I was just wanting to ask about the head tube angle with it being a little steeper than other slack bikes did it prohibit it from performing well or were there any drawbacks from that?
What's the nifty little tool that the reviewer uses to hang the bike in the garage for maintenance? Would be a nice upgrade from my dumb ratchet strap method.
Strange? If yt is on its 3rd year with this bike, My 2020 says 1226mm in length, your core is 1218mm? Not even a different offset would not be enough to change that.
I'm confused.... you have to run 20% sag to boost jumps but you also mention it soaks up trail chatter very well when running 30% sag. Are you changing air spring pressures in between every run to suit that specific trail? If that's necessary, then this suspension design is very flawed, especially considering this is marketed as a do-everything trail bike. I've never heard of a bike company recommending anywhere near 20% sag (maybe for an XC race bike), and you said yourself YT recommends 30% sag. No mention of volume spacers in the review either.
spring pressure increased on park days. as you can see in the video, the bike is being ridden very hard on big jumps that blow through travel under compression going off lips for our tester. no different than freeriders at FEST running stiff suspension for the same reason. spring pressure was backed off on trail riding days closer to recommended.
Trying to figure out what size to get. I’m like 5’ 11.5” so I’m right in between a L and an XL. Want to be able to take the bike to the park & hit jumps, but also go on longer distance workout rides. Any suggestions?
you'll have to decide if a more nimble bike or a longer, more stable bike is what you'd prefer more often. the seat tube should be a consideration for you, too. seat tube length is 25mm longer on the XL than the L.
this why yt has loose a lot of its "Young Talent" attitude. for that price you got so much more in there last range models. Even carbon wheels from E13 ...
@@Ghostina1 I had my ethirteen wheel set break at the spokes and seen several others had the same issue. Also seen several broken carbon cranks from E13.
@@chriskrajewski6568 Cranks... wow you must be hulk in your quadriceps unless you don't hit a stone with the crankarm. A broken spoke is not really an indication for a bad wheelset. My wife (57kg) broke a Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer spoke on her road bike ... and these wheelset cost about 5k. So you better get lean or catch some mtb classes for better riding an don't smash 🤪 and destroy quality parts...
@@Ghostina1 yeah I agree that broken spokes are usually part of the game. In the case of the aluminum e13 wheels it's the rim that cracked around the spokes, in several places and several cases of different people. As for the e13 carbon cranks I've only seen lots of other people posting a break in the connection area with the pedal. Sometimes after a hop/drop, no strikes to rocks necessary. So for me anything e13 is a health hazard 😂 There's other examples too. Like their dropper post any probably more.
It's a great bike but some of the stock components are trash and need to be replaced. I got rid of the bars, stem, grips, pedals (it actually came with cheap plastic pedals) and upgraded the engagement in the rear hub from 36 -> 54 points (sadly that's all you can do for those hubs). The frame protection on the chain stays rubs from your shoes pedaling. I wish I would have put ride wrap or something similar on before my first ride. I also wish the Core4 came in better colors than red or black. I'd argue a little about how good it climbs though, my XXL core4 weighs in at 34lbs with carbon bars / AL flat pedals. It's not that light. The review skipped over the garbage Fidlock water bottle that YT sells for the Jeffsy. Don't bother with that.
@@parker5323 Agreed. I didn't expect that I'd keep the grips or the pedals. I could have gone either way on the bars / stem. They spec with Renthal but not good Renthal so off to the parts bin with the stem and bars. I get that they need to cut costs to sell the bike for what they sell it for. I'm not complaining about having to replace them, just providing info and my opinions on the bike / build.
