    Hi Zach. As a former heavy equipment operator. You do pretty well on that skid steer and front-end loader with the forks. Those skid steers are no walk in the park. I feel bad for you trying to look through that windshield when they get scratched up like that. When I saw your truck, I was smiling when I saw that two speed rearend. I learned to drive in a 1971 International Loadstar single axle dump with a two speed rearend. Zach. It's such a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos. The more you explain the more we understand from an industry we don't get to see. Especially when the work is completed in a more traditional way as our ancestors worked. Example. I did not know that those chain saws had a top and bottom end that could be rebuilt. Or that they could be four cycle, I figured they were all two. Zach, your channel is one of the most enjoyable channels to watch on you tube. Thank you, Zach, I wish you, your family and mules safe travels and a happy prosperous life.

      Thank you so much for all the kind words and encouragement! In a world we live in now, it’s refreshing to have people here that are polite and encouraging. I’ve tried to create a clean fun atmosphere here where people can come, relax, hangout, and have fun all while learning too. So thank you for your support. On the saws, they are all 2 strokes, however…when you set the high speed mixture you want to lean it out and then back rich until it starts “4 stroking.” Because when you load it in the wood, it’ll lean out a little and flatten back out. During the break-in though, I was loading it enough to flatten out. Which was good! I’m going to start cutting timber with it full bore and I’ll turn it on up to where he’ll eat. But in the beginning it’s best to ease into it. If there is a problem, you’ll catch it before it becomes a major problem if that makes sense. And on the skid steer window, I need to replace it bad. The guy I bought it from done some mulching with it, and it’s scratched and hazed up bad. It’s on my list to do! Anyway, thanks again and thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please

    Nice name! I want to see the mule head on it!! I have a horseshoe nail on the shifter on this old B! I needed a pin to hold a retaining washer for a spring, I didn't have a pin, so I drilled a small hole thru the shifter at the bottom of where the washer is supposed to be, put the nail on my grinder until it went thru where it was supposed to be! I needed a spring for a throttle on a JD 720, what am I'm going to use, I got it, a spring from an ink pen! I needed a spring for a wheel dog, I have an Idea, I took a baby diaper pin, cut the head off, put the bolt thru the loop, got it!

    Will your tie logs go to the same place your grade logs go
    And what do they do with your grade . I didn't notice any white oak for staves or have they figured out how to make staves with red oak

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  2 місяці тому +1

      Tie logs and pallet wood will go to the same mill. Grade logs will go to a different mill. You can only make stave out of White Oak. And on this job, there is no white Oak. The only grade we will have will be red oak grade. It does pay a little more than an average tie log per foot; but not a whole lot more. Markets right now are really tight! And one has to watch every single penny… thank you for the question! And thank you as always for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  2 місяці тому

      @@thomasneill6858it’ll go into sawn lumber. Different dimensions. The market on red oak grade isn’t as good as say white oak or black walnut. But it’s better than a straight cross tie log if that makes sense. Lot of red oak goes into furniture material and hardwood flooring. Some gets shipped over seas also.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  2 місяці тому

      Not necessarily daily. Just when it needs it. And sometimes it’s quicker than other times lol. Depending on if I hit something such as rocks, metal in a tree, or simply get it in the dirt. If I don’t hit anything or whatnot and just cut timber normally…then I’ll touch it up at the end of the day. If I don’t cut a lot with it, then I’ll just let it go another day. I keep a few chains with me in the woods, and when one gets dinged or whatnot, I’ll swap it out and keep trucking. Then sharpen it when I get home. To save time. How come you dont cut logs at 16 ft. ?

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  2 місяці тому

      I do on grade when I can. It just depends on how it works out. If they’re too big, 16’ is too hard for us to handle. If they’re 20-22” type stuff, and I can…I’ll cut em 16’. Fact I just got some out yday. We lose our prime pay if they’re not at 10’. Pay is the same from 10-16’. So it doesn’t pay to cut em longer unless you’re trying to stack footage on the truck, and or save time on bucking saw logs. But again, on the real big stuff…we simply can’t handle it when it gets that big. Because most of our grade are the butt cuts. Uppers are ties. Ties are cut 9’ and 18’. All pallet here is cut 9, 12, and 14’. So that’s most of the reasoning there buddy. Hope it helps answer ya question: and thx for asking! Thanks also for taking time to watch and comment.
