- 19th March 2023 25 members of York Canoe Club descended from Horseshoe Falls to Town Falls.
This is the swimmer footage, for many of whom this was their first taste of class 4 ww.
Level at the Corwen gauge was 0.82.
Oh what a tangled web we weave as newbie boaters.
We were a big group, 25 paddlers. For several people this was their first taste of class 4 rapids and were stretching themselves. We'd scouted the falls all weekend and had enough safety in place to rescue the planet. It was terrific and yes, taking a roll from the pool to class 4 ww is hard and not instant, takes practice. Stay safe and have fun.
Carnage 😬always less hurtful to the pride when a few swim rather than just you - we have all been there or we haven't been trying hard enough!

Great video! Looked like the one green boat kinda towards the end didnt even attempt a roll before swimming. Could have been scary for sure though..

Yeah, that was me but I didn't pull - honest! I seemed to be launched out of the boat otherwise I would have had at least one go. Since moved the footplate closer to get a tighter fit.
Rolling doesn't get you through rapids, more dynamic paddle strokes through waves. Most swam due to positioning and wrong lean

I would be more proficient with your roll before running rapids like that…
Working on it! Taking a flat / class 2 roll to 3/4 ww requires practice.
You guys need to learn your roll first.
