I served my time at Smiths Dock as an Apprentice Boilersmith. My Dad was an Electrician, Alan Simpson, he died on his last day at work and when the gates closed. My Grandad worked at Smiths Dock as an armature winder up until the 2nd world war. I left Doggy in 1999 and have never looked back. In 2009 I returned to visit my family and was completely lost, didn't recognise anything and sadly nothing has changed since.
A great video Brian, and a place I know quite well from the past. I worked for the council and the town, Over The Border. And Doggy were my area. I remember working in the 3 storey flats that looked into the square, think they were Lindsey Court?? That was really 90's...... not write a far back as you🤣🤣 Great job👍🏻
Cheers Boro Drone! Glad you liked the quick flight. We moved into Sharrock Close when Bargate St was pulled down in Mid 70’s. Lots of memories … thanks for the kind words!
Lindsey close was round the back of the houses on the Market. Sharrock close was the houses facing the market my friends lived there. We lived in Whickham close, behind the church. Born n bred as where my parents & their parents. Good ole days
The church must be near where my husband's nana and grandad and mum lived he said there was a church at one end and a hospital at the other and a pub he thinks was the central
My grandmother lived at 22 Stainton street N .O As a kid I hated going there O bus from the town centre It was a dreary place Sorry Brian 🙏
