I'm still not sure if God/Jesus will be non- receiving if I don't get Baptized immersed in water 💦 or am I okay with being Baptized by Holy Water. This I someday will have an answer to. This tax collection scheme actually does still exist even today. If you owe a student loan as a for instance. If you are delinquent, then your debt is often sold to a delinquent loan agency. What these agencies do is pay off the original loan at a very reduced rate such as 50-75% of the amount owed. That agency then goes after you for the entire loan amount plus penalties and interest. This is in fact how pretty much all credit systems work in the U.S. If you have a credit card that you're late on your payments they can and will in fact cancel your card and sell your debt for a very small amount to a loan collection agency, who then comes after you for the full amount plus penalties and fees etc... this is endemic to the point that this same method is used by Mortgage companies and even Towing companies. If your car gets towed for illegally parking somewhere the likelihood is that the towing company won't let you have your car until you pay off any tickets owed, then they also hit you for the maximum amount of charges for the towing then to add insult to your injury they will make you pay huge storage fees which resulted from you having to go to court to fix your parking tickets before they would allow you to buy the car back from them. If you fail to pay any of these fees they will take your car legally and then resell it ! You see Rome is still in charge all over the world, it just moved from Rome to the Vatican City and is now called the Holy Roman Empire !
I never seen that before in Mark. Levi, the son of Alpheaus. So there were 2 sons of Alpheaus that Jesus calls. Interesting. He called many BROTHERS. Peter and Andrew, James and John , Matthew and James. Plus Judas was the son of Simon the Zealot. FAMILY.....
If the tax collector paid the taxes to Rome in advance of charging the citizens, how different is that from retail mark up? The retailer pays the wholesaler for goods first then sells to customers at a higher price, hopefully making a profit.
Debt collectors for companies still do this in the uk today. They buy your debt (without permission) at a lower rate as the company would rather a lump sum than to wait a few years for it to be paid in small amounts or sometime nothing at all. The debt company then adds a fee for collecting and paperwork! If you don't pay they can gain entry to your house and sell things that they see worth in.
From what I've read, it may not be entirely accurate to say that the Romans "came in." They were invited in by some Jewish leaders who felt (and they were right) that the Hasmoneans were doing a lousy job of keeping order. Of course the Herodians fully supported Rome and the Herods. The Sadducees were total capitulators. The Pharisees were tolerant of them.
I've heard that, also, Jewish people willingly paid tithe to God because it was an act of love and obedience. Paying taxes felt similar to tithing, but felt repulsive, and was abominable because it usurped obeying God and appeared like obeying and honoring the Roman Empire. It felt like the Romans were requiring them to worship Rome, which felt like they were polluting themselves, and like they were lying. It felt filthy to them.
I don't really know the true background of Matthew, just what's in the show. but to me it seems that Mathew's choice wasn't completely selfish, not saying it wasn't at all but that there was also some good intent there. I think it's pretty safe to assume he would of known or figured there would still be a tax man regardless of what he does. but if he's the tax man then he can work things out in his family's favor, like they don''t have to pay that extra amount. perhaps also keep the difference between the amount Rome requires and the amount he collects smaller than other tax collectors would. so while yes he's still getting the extra profit off them, they'd still be getting something out of the deal they wouldn't otherwise get. His problem came in that he was never able to properly explain this to anyone, including his parents because he's has trouble explaining these thoughts. I think in that scene he tried to show how he could manipulate the Romans into leaving his family alone if they would go along with it. But again it didn't come off how he was expecting and after getting rejected and hatted by everyone he went off and did his own thing as trying to be nice wasn't working.
I do not believe that Matthew and 'Little James" were brothers. There are plenty of references that Simon and Andrew are brothers, as well as John and "Big James." None for sons of a different Alphaeus.
I have my doubts about that theory. Alphaeus could have been a come name. I mean look at Jesus' own disciples: 1/3 of them shared a name with another (Simon later called Peter & Simon the Zealot, James the son of Zebedee and James the son of Alphaeus). Why couldn't there be multiple men called Alphaeus who are father's of James and Matthew.
Interesting how it correlate at least to me, to modern time Puerto Rico commonwealth of the USA. All persons born after January 13, 1941 in the oldest colony in the world recognized as the Island of Puerto Rico is born citizen of the United States. Yet, not allowed to participate in electing its President. The miniscule 100 miles long and 35 miles wide Puerto Rico consistently pay more yearly in Federal Taxes than 6 US states combined. April 21, 2022, High Court rejects Puerto Rico Residents on Federal Benefits. The religious composition of Puerto Rico is plentiful. Witnessing numerous Shofars blow in the middle of streets in Puerto Rico is miraculous.
In the days of Abraham they were not to oppress the poor and steal money and make people even more poor. They were suppose to bring people up to a better level and help them . That was the highest command of God. Especially if you had lots of wealth. Job did this. He helped the poor and brought them up into a better level of living. Mishpat . Justice and grace .
The arrest and questioning of Jesus by the Romans is NOT in the Bible. Like many great Christian novels, i.e. The Robe, The Lion of God, etc., this is literary story telling that supposes it could have happened, and it is woven into the biblical story lines. Surprised you didn’t mention this. BTW your interpretation of the cursing of the Olive tree is very insightful. It rings the truth. Well done.
It seems to me that if Matthew and James the Lesser were born of the same Alphaeus, the Gospels would say so. Afterall, they tell us that James the Greater and John are brothers, and Simon Peter and Andrew as well. And since Matthew turned away from his sin, it would not have been a shame anymore to be associated with him. Also, if we accept that the James in "Mary, the mother of James and Joses" refers to James the Lesser a.k.a James of Alphaeus, then why would the Gospel according to Matthew mention Joses as a brother but not Matthew himself? And it's not because Joses/Joseph is another name for Matthew, since we know Matthew's other name was Levi.

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us into His image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. We cannot purify ourselves, but Christ lived that perfect sinless, pure life and then allotted it to our "account". That's where our righteousness comes from. Not from any good, works that you or I could do. It is not based on the amount of good works we do. God starts the changes, He carries it on, and He completes it in those who let Him. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him, again, through His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if YOU had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, forgiveness, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER If you have any questions let me know
Have you lost your mind? You have moony Quintus protects you. No Jew lives as good as you you're going to throw it all away? Yes. Love that whole scene
Wow, Brandon. You always seem to bring new knowledge to my understanding. I never ever ever was told about that nugget concerning how taxes were collected (paid up front and then collected from Jews after). The part about Jewish tax collectors charging extra was always popular, though, mainly because of the account of Zacchaeus' meeting with Jesus.
Jesus makes note of this in Scripture: History - The Romans were not there as conquers, they were invited to Judea. Remember Jesus talks about two brothers? One was strong and all man. The other one was weak. One brother was pro Pharisee, the other hated the Pharisees. The weak brother was in line to be the next leader of Judea. The strong brother had the weak brother murdered and then invited the Romans to Judea to protect Judea from a civil war as a result of the brother being murdered. The Romans stayed. That is how the Romans ended up in Judea. They were originally allies to Judea. Read your Scriptures, now you know what Jesus was talking about when He mentions the two brothers.
Please clarify if you refer to a SCRIPTURE where Jesus speaks of 2 brothers, and where in Bible? Holy Bible event/incident of history, recorded elsewhere?
On the outside chance that you are stating it is recorded in the Bible, pkease state whether it was from a book actually written in Bible tines, or later, but not accepted then, into the Christian New Tesrament ?
@@karenremley9951 Ignorance is not bliss. Yes. It is in the Bible. Jesus speaks of the two brothers, and the destruction of the tower. This was all in the time of the MacAbees. (sp). It is historical fact. Now then for your comment about it not being in the Bible. The Roman Catholic Church removed 18 Holy Books from the Bible. This included the most important Book in the Bible "Jubilees." Jubilees was Cannon from the first century on. Then Martin Luther came along, and demanded more books be removed from the Bible. We are lucky to have what Books of Peter we do have. Because Luther wanted them all removed including the Books of James which he saw as "...nothing more than straw." So you people who believe the Books contained in the current Bible were there by God's choice are fools. Because God is very upset that man had the arrogance to decided which of His Words we were going to listen to. Instead of coming back at me and saying I am not speaking the truth, use your computer to do some research. That is unless you are intellectually too damn lazy to do it.
Way too much speculation in this teaching and in this series. Just stick to the word. The word is all you need. We have one teacher…the Christ. Pray to hear him reveal the truth to you and stop being lazy and depending on others so much.

Matthew is a fan favorite for me
I do not believe that Matthew and 'Little James" were brothers.
I started to watch it live but then I got disinterested. I can't wait to watch it in your channel 😍.
Awesome ❤️
Is Brandon saying that Matthew and James are actually thought to be brothers? I've never heard this before this video.
I saw this scene but I missed the second, does anyone know what it was about?
Anyone: plz tell me where this season 3 is viewed? I thought it wasn't out yet?
It's not, you are correct.
What season/episode was this in? WHERE Matthew was talking with his dad?
This is a clip from Season 3 that they showed in a recent livestream.
In preview of season 3 in livestream
Is Season 3 even out yet?
Not yet. This was a rough cut of a scene from their live stream last weekend.
We should always becareful not to make assumptions about things the bible isn't clear on, just my opinion. No offense!
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.
If there is an explanation for why xerxes2005 's conclusions are incorrect, please someone reply and give it.? I'm too tired to look into it but I'm still curious. Thanks!
@@lindamoorhead3007 This is probably the most bizarre reply I ever got... What did I wrote that tells you that I may be wrong? And if I am, why not tell me yourself? And if you're tired, why not wait for tomorrow or another day to answer? It's not like my comment will disappear by tomorrow...
Sorry internet acting up again I have to come back. It was getting interesting.
our oppressors today-- irs , fed reserve
Looking forward to you sharing about it 🤗🌹🕊️🔥🌈 are you back from Israel?
I am! Got home last week. It was incredible
Matthew could not win. Gaius said that too. The people that wrote the Dead Sea scrolls thought they could beat Rome. See Masada.
Where is this written in the bible?
Based in cultural context & the norms of the day...
Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans
EVER
If you have any questions let me know
Little James
Have you lost your mind? You have moony Quintus protects you. No Jew lives as good as you you're going to throw it all away? Yes. Love that whole scene
Based on how the Gospels read, I think Matthew and James were brothers.
My life is broken I hope you can start live chat so we can ask Bible question
Hi. I premiere a video every week at 4PM and do a live chat as it premieres.
Sad sounds some what the government now.....
On the outside chance that you are stating it is recorded in the Bible, pkease state whether it was from a book actually written in Bible tines, or later, but not
accepted then, into the Christian New Tesrament ?
Too many things in The Chosen that are not in KJV. I chose to not watch it anymore.
Way too much speculation in this teaching and in this series. Just stick to the word. The word is all you need. We have one teacher…the Christ. Pray to hear him reveal the truth to you and stop being lazy and depending on others so much.
Does anyone really like tax collectors?
Sorry, but in season 2 Matthew makes it clear that he has no real knowledge of his history, or customs. You also seem to have seen scenes that I haven't seen, even though I have watched the first 2 seasons a dozen times or more.
Hey, Roy. This video is focusing not so much on what has been happening in The Chosen, but more on how this scene connect with what was happening in scripture and historically at that time.
