My 86-yr-old Dad made friends with the staff of his local landfill, so they let him peruse their e-waste and hazmat waste(!!) Anyway, he has no interest in computers, but he brought me there, and siting on a palette with a crap-ton of old PC's was an A2000! I was allowed to take it (for free) and have brought it back to life! The ST506 HD was dead, but otherwise she's working like a charm! (No battery leak, fortunately.) Now, if I can just have the same luck finding an A3000 or A4000... Fingers crossed!
Just got an old 486 DX 2/66. It ran for about 15 Minutes and then magic white smoke out of the power supply - haha. Surely some bad cap. This A4000 board and the programming of the GAL's was really relaxing to see after a long working day. Thanks. As always! I learned something new :)
Love your sense of humour sir!
7:41 GOT STUFF PJS! Heh. That was one DIRTY board. At one point in the freeze frame it looked like one area was even burned?
Thank you Chris you the Man. Cheers
Everything looks great. If you ignore missing bits :)
If i keep learning like this you will have to fit an extra ram socket in my head aghhhhhh. keep up the good work.
And that’s ThAT for tonight Mona!
The bad GAL might not have been bad. From what I remember, that's just how they read back if the lock bit was set when it was programmed.
Had a fuse bit. Second one worked fine i do understand the all 1’s protected mode
But rewrite should work.
Its good to hear the vacuum working. Dont want dirty carpets. Can you just dunk the whole board into the ultrasonic cleaner to de-gupify it?
if i had one that big. mine can fit the 3640 Thats about it
That's a lot of work to test a GAL. At least you found one bad one for all your effort.
So far
chipram: doublesided simm = 2MB singlesided = 1M so I use 8MB simms as "2MB Chip" most as I bougtht some 100 packs of 8MB simms :)
100 packs?!! wowzers
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration ebay "LOT OF 100 8MB FPM" and you will find :)
double price now compared to when I bought
That's nuts. There is a post on one of the forums that said the jumper for 1mb or 8mb has some effect on what that detects as, even though it still tops out at 2mb of chip. I went poking around because, for the life of me, I couldn't seem to get any to pass the mem test. I finally did, but only after I took out the CSPPC and put in my BFG9060.
Thanks for the Video Dr Chris 👍🏻 And thanks for my request to show how you program Gals 🤗 The 20 pin sockets etc.. these from Mouser? Look forward to PT2. Cheers 🍻
i bought the chips on ebay. the adaptors came with my programmer kit . They are under normal circumstances all electronically erasable unless theres a issue like we saw.
6:48 i think you bridged a pin. that may be why this isnt working?
cotton swab
remnants
I buy 99% IPA from Amazon in gallon bottles! 😆😆 Not kidding.
Hoopers hooch
did you actually test the plugin cpu upgrade as fully working first?
Yup
Have you reworked any GALs on WarpEngine4040 turbo cards? Mine lost all its memory. She won't work with any SIMMs (any combination) installed. She'll boot fine with empty sockets. Some suggested GALs gone bad, but that's above my paygrade.
Own one, never did one. Dont know if the code is available
Can I ask - what was the temp on your hot air and its fan/blower setting?
666f or 352 metric units at 90% speed
U891, cheeky bridge? 6:51
cotton swap remnants
I said the same thing
Ah, nuttin to see here. 🤪
Another huge effort for nothing. This pc clone Amigas is really pure crap. What expect when company try to implement technology from others in they products then fail because of crappy disain and incompatibilty betwen technologies?Well nothing more than just stuff what we see on channels like this one.Amiga newer can be pc is no matter how desperate still try to be like Pc.😁
