Historic ruling gives Indigenous nations in Saskatchewan jurisdiction over child and family services

- Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) Third Vice Chief Aly Bear announced the result of a historic Supreme Court of Canada ruling on Friday, giving Saskatchewan First Nations the right to administer child and family services - a right that supersedes the authority of the provincial government. She was joined by Chief Bobby Cameron and Second Vice Chief David Pratt.
Pratt said that the FSIN established a family framework act of principals and inherent rights but it is up to the nations that fall under the umbrella to set up their family service systems. FSIN child welfare director Karen Pelletier added, "Creating a system is not something you just set up overnight as many nations are revitalizing their natural laws and it's a process that could take years."
FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron said, "Currently in the year 2024, more children are in the child and family services system than in residential schools during the height of the residential school system era." Pratt said, "This is an important settlement because it shows the failure of the provincial and territorial welfare systems, and we want to dismantle that system so we can create our own system that will serve our families far better than theirs ever will."

These people have proven they can't care for each other let alone the children. The only thing they know is to blame others for problems and cry they are the only people on the earth that can't overcome any type of abuse, alcoholism or drug abuse. The resources are available to them they just refuse because to get better means not getting a hand out.

It means that child welfare matters concerning Native families are taken care of by local First Nations instead of off-reserve offices. It also prevents children from being taken away from their reserve for protection and allows extended family or friends to step in and care for that child. It basically means that all licensed Social Workers will work with the band and not a government agency that usually can't understand or have time to deal with these matters as a local office can.

I just find it very weird that the first nations people were not trusted to take care of their own kids. They would love them more than any bureaucrat in Ottawa.
Me to....because just the other day they( the indigenous peoples) had asked for help from Ottawa and the RCMP to get rid of the drug problem on their reserve lands...🤔....hope they can do this and not end up asking for more help or to return their children that the families don't seem to want to the hands of Ottawa federal government.

A VERY SHORT HISTORY:
1) The beaver fur trade created alcoholism among these ppl - which had not existed before
2) The Catholic church created schools for the young to try to "westernise" them
3) These very schools separated the children from their families - sometimes for years
4) The separation of the parents from their children caused GREAT distress for both parents and kids
5) Some of the students NEVER returned home.
6) Some of the survivors of these boarding schools from hell are still with us and share their sorrow openly.
7) GOD is not to blame. The devil is a wolf in sheep's clothing...
8) GOD BE WITH THEM NOW., as they unite and move forward to restore their heritage and clean up the mess. 💜

I know of many kids that HAD to be moved to foster homes because of conditions at home on Sask reserves..How will this benefit those kids?
How do they expect to pay for this ? Protect your children like the way you protected those women missing and murdered or the 6 year old boy beaten to death by his parents in Port Alberni after he was returned to them . Half the children in care are aboriginal and they are there for a reason .
