Omg this is like a mini throwback to #bakingwithjim. Love this you and Sarah are doing amazing as first time parents. Loving your videos as always. I still have my james and friends notebook and still use and the long time no blog pencil case too I remember meeting you at your meetup you did to celebrate the related of it all also still love that my full name is in your book of 147 things xx
Jim, seeing you as a Dad is so joyous.. you light up every time you see or speak about Margot 🥰
So, related to the raising agents: the buttermilk is to help the baking soda out! Baking soda needs an acid to make it do its rising task, and buttermilk is more acidic than regular milk. If you use regular milk, you’d probably have to swap the baking soda for baking powder, which doesn’t need the acid to do its task.
I want to learn more
Honestly prefer this type of baking videos. This is what my baking is like too 😂 stopping for my husband or children
Love watching your baking...Sarah did an amazing job!! I'm from the states and I don't think I've added that much rising ingredients either but I'm guessing the amount is not that much since it didn't affect the cake. Hope Bobbi loved it and didn't get too hyper...lol Thanks for sharing with us.
Buttermilk is a fermented dairy drink.it is the liquid left behind after churning butter out of cream. I think that’s right I did a cookery course. And Sarah is always the boss
That cake looks spectacular! Sarah did a wonderful job. I'm sure Bobbi will love it!
I just love Sarah! I’m so happy for you Jim! You have an amazing woman with you and a very special little girl❤️
Loving your content with the new family life perspective! We have an 11mo boy so it’s fun to share the parenting challenges!
Baking soda is to make it rise and baking powder is to stabilize it so it doesn’t collapse when it cools down ;)
Aww Margot is so cute. My son is almost the same age (maybe a couple of weeks younger) and he makes the same noises. So funny. Until they descend into a cry… 🙈🙈🙈
Sarah is me when I’m baking. “Oh Lord” 😂😂
Such a joy to see you both! Hope all is well!
“Congrats to everyone who is early and found this comment”💙
This was a joy to watch! Very entertaining! You two did a great job👍🏻
Jim can I just say I have been watching you for years!!!!! And from an outsider looking in this is the happiest I have ever seen you! You and Sarah make a perfect match and your daughter is clearly bringing that house hold such joy! xox
anybody else mini freaked out when he saif march? For a split second I was like 😱 what? where? when? what black hole have I been through 😂😂
Pop your coffee in a keep cup instead of a regular mug to keep it warm 🙂🙂
Have you tried making her room as dark as possible and turning on a sound machine? It really helped my Littles with daytime naps. 🤗
loved this!!!!! margot's happy noises 🥺can't cope
Why are you putting coffee in a childrens cake?
Think it’s cause it enhances the chocolate flavour! Don’t count me on it but I think they will cut the cake in like 8 or 10 or whatever, so the caffeine intake per serving won’t be much.
Aww love her name! My name is Bobbi Jo!
This brings back memories to earlier times mentally ty for this ❤️
American here, I’ve seen plenty of recipes with baking soda & baking powder, but never also with self raising flour. In fact, every recipe I’ve used with self raising flour is British-it’s pretty rare in the US in my experience. I’ve seen a couple of British recipes with self raising & soda, but never all three
Omg I was just craving a chocolate cake today. That cake looks incredible! X
Cake looks so good. Will have to try your recipe.😊
Heeeey!! How are you all?? 😊❤️. Margot is so cute and you two are a amazing parents ❤️
Good burps Margot!
What a wonder human couple.. watching you guys from years and years
At the start of the video I thought a time traveled for a minute...
The three raising agents is normal in American baking. Not sure why. But hearing you read it off, it’s not odd.
I am not use to it. Most recipes use just baking soda. I find nore british recipes I have come across have more baking powder. My guess with a mix is for texture.
Love this baking video 😍and thought I would ask about the caffeine in the cocoa and then the added coffee, I’ve made a similar for my friends toddler but made it marble style so too avoid too much cocoa and substituted the coffee because my friend herself has issues with that and then she told me that also for the little ones it can be too intensive. I was wondering if any of you have some experience with that?
Margot is so cute
Here’s a buttermilk substitute- 1 tablespoon white vinegar, OR lemon juice in cup (8 fl oz) of milk. Let it sit for five minutes. It can then be used 1:1 (so if you need 1/2 cup of buttermilk, use a 1/2 tablespoon of acid and 1/2 cup of milk). And American recipes pretty much never use self rising flour- there are not raising agents in our flour. If an American recipe says “flour” - it means plain, all-purpose flour. it will specify if it wants cake flour or self rising (I’ve never even seen the latter). It does make a different and you’ll need it for the baking soda!
Also, we do have cakes with butter, but that makes a more tender crumb. Oil makes for more moist cakes.
Another fun fact Brits sometimes find confusing is our butter. Recipes often say 1 or 2 sticks. Our butter comes in 1 lb boxes with four sticks. Each stick is four oz, or 1/2 a cup.The butter has markings on the wax paper for tablespoons (8 in a stick) but also 1/8, 1/4 and 1/3 cup measures. super helpful as you use bake, but not terribly helpful if your butter doesn’t come like that abroad!
Would you agree that Sarah is a Dream of a person... So REAL.. NATURAL..KINDNESS oozes from her. It's a joy to follow her.. Jane🦸♀️🌸🌷🕊🎆
Love these types of videos! I would also like to (with love!) say that sometimes you cut her off mid-sentence and maybe you could give her more time to finish her thoughts :)
If I am looking at the correct cake, it uses all purpose flour, which doesn't have a raising agent in it so that is why we use baking soda and baking power.
Because you've had plenty of baking comments I will comment on the baby farting. I babysit my 5 month old grandson 3 days a week, and those false alarms are real, especially if his momma ate some "gassy" foods.
The before sleeping sounds are so real. My grandson does this little growl, then sighs for a few minutes, and eventually lulls himself to sleep. I sometimes stand outside his bedroom door just to listen. It's comforting to him and makes this grandma smile.
Loved the cake, nicely done💗🎉💗
Put your morning coffee in a thermal flask and you’ll be able to have hot coffee again, even if you’re taking your first sip at 3pm!! xxx
‘Parents will get it’ 🤣
You’re not a parent if you don’t talk about your baby’s bowel movements 🤣🙊
Fantastic vlog
BAKING WITH JIM!!!!!!!!!!
who is Bobbie?
Top 10 dinosaurs that did a thing 😂 love it
Nice Mr...
We have 5 months old baby and he makes exactly the same noises when in the cot 😂
The cake turned out wonderful, it looked fantastic! I really enjoy watching your baking/family vlogs. You and Sarah make a great team and it’s wonderful to watch you vlog together. ❤️
Margot Bobbie (play on Margot Robbie) is their cousin name. Love that she has a little girl cousin almost her age. I do too about the same gap and we're like sisters. Also I live in the US and I think that most recipes call for All Purpose or Cake Flour in America which has no or less leavening qualities than self rising, hence the need for soda and powder, but I might be wrong about that.
3:13 No, there aren´t suppose to be a boss, you´re a team guys
I love watching you two with Margot!! It brings back so many memories of trying to find out what works best for your babies. Mine are grown now with children of their own. It’s a constantly evolving process and you two are doing great!! ❤️
Am enjoying the daily vlogs Jim , thanku 🙌
Yeh you don’t need too many raising agents . Trust me I’m a wizard at cakes especially Victoria sponges. I once made 2 in half an hour 8 in a week
Three raising agents seems like a lot. I don’t even know where to buy self-rising flour here. I usually only use Baking Soda or Baking Powder with regular flour.
I look forward to seeing the new kitchen, hope you vlog it all.
❤❤
Parents definitely get it 😂 deceptive little munchkins
This video was DELIGHTFUL! 🥰
buttermilk is basically just milk with lemon juice
That is technically sour milk. Buttermilk is the liquid that comes off the butter.
In the uk, Buttermilk is the liquid that's drained off during the churning of cream to make butter.
You set a timer on my Alexa!
Love your baking videos you three are so cute❗️😃
Vegetable Oil and buttermilk are used in a lot of traditional Scottish bakes.
Loved it .natural couple .
Oh my God the cake looks amazing!!!
Margot loves the camera, cutie
Looks delicious! Hope you're all well❤️
Love, the 'sleepy side'.
Love a good Baking with Jim 😂
Great video👌love you guys x
Is buttermilk not an international thing?
We do have buttermilk in the UK but it's not used that frequently
It's more popular in southern baking.
Loved this ❤️❤️❤️
Love the videos
👀
So, was the cake a success? What did Bobbie think about it ?
Yummy 🤤
Why would you call your niece delicious?
It’s not an uncommon description. It’s just like saying they’re cute enough to eat
It’s just a term of endearment.
