We had been to the resort 4 times prior to Catalonia taking over. Really didn’t know what to expect when we arrived in August. There were some changes. We are IHG members and would always receive the VIP check in. That was always nice. We’re Catalonia members now and that’s no longer offered. The returning guest dinner was always a fun time as well. And the other change that I wasn’t a fan of was our friend and bar tender moved from the upstairs club lounge to the poolside bar. Other than that for us not to much was different. I hear now that even more changes have happened. The general manager told us change is happening slow at the moment because Catalonia is a new company in Jamaica and just getting supplies onto the island is taking longer than they would wish. I look forward to seeing how the resort progresses. Catalonia has more money they can put into improvements. I know WiFi is and issue, but they only have two service providers they can use currently. I guess at the end of the day I’ll continue to visit the resort. We are returning in January. It’s low key, I’ve made friends with staff, and other locals, and compared to some of the other resorts it’s still a good bargain.
I went there a few times when it was Holiday Inn resort. I had a problem with the food because being a resort in Jamaica. It should have been more Jamaican choices. They need Jamaican people cooking it the Jamaican way. They should work with those taxi drivers to make it cheaper to take tours around jamaica it was too expensive. I spent a lot of time outside of the resort then inside. This hotel is owned by Spanish people.
