Chuck, you actually had .8048" on that first jacket. I paused the video because that caught my eye and @11:05 you can see that. .7593" on the second jacket @ 11:54.
Thanks brother
@@AlaskanBallistics I hope you didn't take offense at me posting that?
@404nitro nope
I had few rifles in these calibers over the decades: Whats left in my cabinet is my Tikka 7MM REM MAG.
Nice!
I've been using the 300 WM for 48 years and it's wonderful. It is the hammer of Thor on big game. From Sierra 110 HP to 210 Berger VLD's it shoots great. 180 grainers are the preferred big game bullet. Thanks for your testing.
Thank you for watching and the comment. Godspeed and good hunting!
Nice video. I staked it deep on 300 win mag ammo and glad I did. The price I paid will never be seen again it's like night and day what everything coast today. Stay safe everyone from Florida.
Good thinking! Even my handloads are probably more expensive. Godspeed and good hunting!
I had a few 300 Magnums and .30-06s. I’m a 7mm magnum guy now. It’s enough for pretty much anything the recoil is a lot milder than the 300 and more powerful than the ‘06. Less recoil means you shoot more accurately.
And I do shoot my 7mm Rem mag more accurately, however, this .300 isn't bad on recoil. Brake is really effective
Would you choose the fusion over the power shok to go hunting?
100% yes. And terminal ascent over fusion
Excellent comparison. I am a big 7 Rem Mag proponent. The 300 is definitely more powerful. But I have owned a few 7s. They are a good step up from the /06 level offerings. I haven't used them on elk yet but I have harvested deer at under 150 yards with moderate loadings with 162s @ mid 2800s. My daughter used a 300 WM on elk at 300 a few years ago. Both are great with the right loading and bullet for anything in North America. Nice rigs there. Thank you Sir.
Thank you sir. I appreciate you always watching and commenting Godspeed and good hunting.
Great video Chuck. I took a few deer with 7MM WSM power shock in 150 grain. Did ok. Sold the rifle in the end. Both those calibres are brilliant 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
@@davidneal6920 I've got to come down there and hunt sometime
I have a 7 mm Rem. Mag. If I were to go after large game I would choose the 300 win mag. Ie moose big Bears 👍🏻 Good video Chuck.
No Chuke, you go find the Squatch
Lol
I kinda goofed a few years ago. I could have bought .300 Win. Mag. Federal Power Shok ammo for about $17-18 a box. I think I saw some 7mm Rem. Mag about the same time for similar pricing. I just never thought I would own either. I was more smitten and impressed by .338 Win. Mag. Still am. As it is now, I am even less likely than before to own any mags. Lesser cartridges will do all I need to get done much cheaper. Edit: You guys up in the last frontier have the greatest justification for stuff beyond .30-06 class cartridges.
If you're truly worried about an SHTF scenario, A .300 win mag with FMJ ammo is an incredible Barrier penetrator ammunition. Radiators, steel body armor etc... won't stand up to it. You need a .300 win mag. Get one of the great lakes rifles.
@@AlaskanBallisticsNever thought about that....
Let me know.
If you get one of those great lake rifles... I've been wanting to try one out myself
This gun does not kick it just pushes me back in my chair. 😅
Chuck, Good test ! I like both calibers and both these rounds. The apple to apple comparison would be with a 200 grain bullet in the 300. I know 180 is very popular but the 200 penetrates deeper and drops game very efficiently. I'd also try 220 grains out of curiosity. They're both hard to find on shelves but worth the effort !
Thank you much for taking the time to do these interesting tests !
Yeah. Finding a 200gr in the same bullet style is hard. I think I have terminal ascent that are 200gr and 155gr in 7mm
@@AlaskanBallistics They don't have to be from the same manufacturer, similar construction is sufficient imo.
I love a good ballistic test even though I like ballistic gel test for visual data I like that you use actual meat one thing for sure is both are consistent at jacket separation anxiety but both are good enough for me with better projectile loading I was hunting big game squirrels with 408cheytac and had zero jacket separation
Thanks for your input. Not being a full time youtuber, I have to be careful what vI use my Ballistics gel on. It's very expensive and I usually don't get my money's worth out of a video.
I have both, booths tikkas. The 300 is a rough tech 200 gr accubonds and the 7 is a super lite 150 Barnes. Elk and smaller I take the 7, anything bigger I take the 300.
That makes sense! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
How’s the roughtec recoil without a muzzle break compared to the 7
@@SamG-v5v
The 300 w no back is similar to a 12 ga w 3 in slugs maybe a liy less. With the break the 300 wsm kicks a little less the my 7.
Thanks for this, You do a great job with these comparisons.
Have you done the 7mm 162gn ELD-X in the 7mm Rem?
Lots of varied opinion on the internet and your testing would show a lot.
ua-cam.com/video/C7ruKNcNbcA/v-deo.html is not 7mm Rem mag but this test shows the bad ripping apart and jacket separation.
ua-cam.com/video/wedrM78N8g4/v-deo.html
Hey Chuck, hope you are doing well. Not sure if you remember but I had plans to do a bottom metal conversion on my savage 11 scout. I’ve had an accurate mag bottom metal conversion kit sitting in the box since 2020. I finally grabbed a top sear from gun shack. Seems just recently savage target sears and target accutriggers are available. I just grabbed the sear. It was literally a part swap. I did have to fit it to the savage stock using a dremel. The bolts that came with the bottom metal kit are too long so I chopped them to size with the dremel cut off wheel. Every thing is working perfectly. I only tested function with dummy rounds but hope to get to the range soon. I’m not the best at dremeling but I think it turned out great!
I forgot your email address but I can send you a link to the website. They show temporary out of stock. I’m grabbing a spare as soon as they are available again.
That's awesome. I don't need to convert my savages... but if I do I'll let you know.
But go ahead and email me the links. Alaskanballistics@gmail.com
@@AlaskanBallistics hey Chuck, I tried sending it twice but got a bounce back saying the email account does not exist. I’ll tray again later to see if it goes through.
Thanks!
Weird. I get emails on it all the time.

I love my 7mm rem mag. 300 doesn nothing extra fro my purpose.
Hi thank you for the info 👍
Hello, and you're welcome. Thanks for watching and the comment. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
... never get jacket/core separations in the 308 Win Power Shok ammo but when you ramp up to 300 Win Mag velocities those little suckers shed their skins ... that's why I use Fusion ammo for any bullet faster than 30-06 Sprng
Good idea
Great video
Thank You Very much! God speed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
For a more even comparison, the 300WM would need a 206 grain bullet to compare to 175 RemMag, or the 7 RemMag would use a 150 grain bullet to compare to the 180 grain
300WinMag.
Bigger diameter generally makes a bigger initial wound. If I was going to be within 50 yards of a Bruin, give me the broader wound and the lighter quicker rifle. Would likely be using a bonded or monolthic bullet though.
Yeah some people want to see similar sectional density bullets, and some want to see similar weight bullets. Episode 1 with the barnes lrx was closer sectional density...
I'd also have monolithic bullets or bonded or partition for charging bruins
I own two 7mags and one 300. I prefer the 7mm because of the fore mentioned. If I’m in thicker woods I’ll take my 35 Whelen
@@Bggred nice
How did you like the magpul stock?
Great for accuracy, too heavy to carry far
I love my 7mag, I don't have a 300win, I have a 300H&H awesome rifle.
Cool.
Thanks for the video was good. My vote would be for the 7MM Mag, no animal will know the difference when using comparable bullets (sectional densities) between .308 and .284 diameters as they are too close. Would be looking at jumping from .284 to the .338 magnum if looking for frontal area appreciable difference on animals.
Thanks for watching and the comment. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
I'll keep my 300WM!! The thumper😉
Yes it is
Two things: I had a 7 mag. Sold it. Now have a 300 WM, Much better. Also. You have just proven WHY I ONLY shoot Nosler Partitions at live game. Good show.
Thank you very much! Nosler partition is a great choice. There are other great bullets these days, which I prefer, but I'd still use the partition in a heart beat
@@AlaskanBallistics nosler partitions are a great bullet and have proven themselves timelessly but nowadays I exclusively shoot Barnes TTSX in my hunting rifles. Never second guess penetration on any shot angle and they hammer game. Also when you eat a lot of game it’s a plus not having lead fragmentation throughout the meat.
@tikkat3962 couldn't agree more. I usually use their LRX line of bullets if my rifle likes them.
100% on Nosler
My choice is the 300WM necked down to 7mm, 26" barrel , 195 Berger at 3050 fps.
Best of both worlds! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
7 Mag your first two shots put some heat in the barrel and the last three shots were more consistent???? Now that I have a Garmin I want to, for the purpose of hunting data, check cold bore shots over some time and with morning, evening and different weather conditions to see how much variation.
Let me know what you come up with....
Very possible. But I've had that rifle do way better on standard deviation.
Does your 7mm mag have a 9.5 to 1 twist rate ?
@@barrymantei7795 I in 9 I believe
300 win is nice for squirrels and prairie dogs but 300 RUM is for reaching out and touching something! 7 mag is a darling little paper puncher
Those squirrels are mean
@@AlaskanBallistics haha, I heard some carry switchblades!
Lol yep
That's really pushing boundries. Stick to taking yellow jackets with the .300wm.
@af7119 lol nice one
Curious if you shot not into water would the jackets stay on. Is the water what makes them separate?
@@randysmith8604 not if they're a well constructed bullet. Those stay together even in water
@@AlaskanBallistics thank you . good to know. Thanks for all the videos too.
@randysmith8604 thank you for watching. I think this would be fine for deer or hold together in slower calibers. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
Should try the federal Fusion it might keep together...but at those speeds ...i wonder... definitely 300 win mag all the way
I love federal fusion and appreciate the input.
Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
@@AlaskanBallistics thanks appreciate 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Chuke, you're slowing down bud. Lol
All those visits to the Asian brothels
Do you reload your Federal Brass? If so how does it fair
Yes and it's one of my favorites to reload
@@AlaskanBallistics yes sir thank you! Got me new freedom seeds I want to try out!
@DirtyCombos enjoy. Work your way up, don't start at max
@@AlaskanBallistics yes sir!
Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
Seven millimeter remington magnum is the one I prefer
Me too, but only because this rifle is more accurate than my. 300
Either are still faster than Chuke commenting first
Nice.
Thats a 3007
Not 3006 🤔
I don't get it
@@AlaskanBallistics 300 case necked down to 7 mm
300 wm + 7 mm =
3007
@daviddanner-n8i thanks for the explanation. Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend.
Give me my 300 love it
That's awesome. Which Rifle to you have?
@@AlaskanBallistics it’s not top of the line but man dose it group . Mine is a ER Shaw custom mark 7 with a save forearm and grip
300 win mag is a beast!
It's no 6.8 western🤪
@@AlaskanBallistics That goes without saying.😎
@montanamusings lol
300 win mag before 7mm rem mag every time.
👍👍
Thanks Lance

Those Trips to Asia are Slowing you down!
Not for close range deer pill 🤔 for sure
It would be okay. Better in slower calibers for sure.
.300 Win mag.
Always a good choice! Godspeed and good hunting to you and yours my friend!
300 win mag dusts 7mm
For sure!
.300 WM always...
Never a bad choice
Fusion is a much better round.
Very much so! Love the federal Fusion. Wish it were more accurate in my firearms.
