This iteration of Hounds of Winter, compared to the large jazz ensemble backing the original single, is unlike anything else Sting has improved by process of reduction . Of course the backing vocalist adds a new dimension. But many of his other songs don't hold up to the original recording when the studio production is stripped down or when the live rendition is played as a sugary pop track. Truly Sting as his very best.
