She's bitter about it and implying that her lover would not live up to his promises, and then she tells her own story

Iqbal Bano ( اقبال بانو), PP (1935 in Delhi - 21 April 2009, in Lahore)was a highly acclaimed female Ghazal singer from Pakistan.
She was best known for her semi-classical Urdu ghazal songs and classical thumris, but also sang easy-listening numbers in 1950s films
Ustad Chaand Khan referred her to All India Radio, Delhi, where she sang on the radio.
She was considered a specialist in singing the ghazals of Faiz Ahmed Faiz. In 1985, Bano became a cult icon when she roused a strong crowd of 50,000 people in Lahore
by singing Faiz's passionate Urdu anthem, Hum Dekhenge (We Will See), despite the poet's works being banned by General Zia ul-Haq's military regime on the grounds
of his close ties with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
In due course, she generated more and more public appeal and became a specialist in singing the kalam of Faiz Ahmad Faiz.
Her inciting ghazals were seen as an act of defiance and resistance.

I am unable to handle this masterpiece song as each time I listen to it, I cannot stop crying in tears. I miss my parents who loved this song and Iqbal Bano Saheba, herself.

This can be rated as one of the everlasting lyrics , composition and singing which is heritage created for all generations to come. I always listen very carefully every time I come across different performances of this song in particular. I noticed very early that singers of 50s were not only playback singers but they always came up with new imaginative details of emotions and variations every time. I have not forgotten performance of this song at Agra because of intense pain which was emoted then. As artist mature they become more charming and sweet. You have proven here so well . this was originally part of a longer Urdu poem, by famed poet, playwright and scholar Hakeem Ahmad Shuja (1893_1969) , he was the father of Anwar Kamal Pasha, the director of this movie Gumnaam (1956). This excerpt was taken from the longer version and adapted for the movie song by Hakeem sb himself, assisted by both trainees Qateel Shifai and Saifur Rahman Saif, they both later claimed to be the authors of this song. Somehow, after the demise of Hakeem sb in 1969 nobody corrected this error. But those of us still alive from that era of 1950s, still remember . My father was very close to Anwar Kamal Pasha and as a youth i saw both this movie and some parts of its production /direction. Its a classic, even back then one of very few Pakistani movies shown in Indian cinemas and enjoyed 'Golden Jubilee' at box offices even there. We are no longer capable of producing art of this calibre. Alas.
