The song is a "letter" to her son about her divorce. She was still a child/young (23 years old) when she had her son and married his Dad. The transition to color is about her "giving up" and starting a new chapter in her life. She had good intentions and the highest hopes for her marriage, but it didn't work out, so she is asking her son to go easy on her for leaving.

Yes! I felt like it was to my grown daughter I had at 19. Apologizing for things I thought at the time were right and out of love but I was too young to know what I know at 41
She married his father in 2018 and she was 30, so not young by any means. She filed for divorce in 2019. Regardless, she married him because she thought that’s what she had to do.

The fact that the song is so void of the "fill" that most pop songs have these days is just a huge relief to me. You can hear the "Space" in the mix. It doesn't need superficial music producer filler that modern music has. And, in this day and age, to hear a real piano, real bass played by a real musician is a breath of fresh air. What a brilliant idea to simply programme only the Kick on a drum machine in the background. Heaven.
And the one big thing that is absent is - "autotune". Guess what! No Need. She is a true singer.
Plus she doesn't need to flash her body like some singers just pure talent. Speaks for her

I’ve always been a hard rock/ grunge era girl but the first time I ever heard Adele was the song “Hello” and my entire body got goosebumps and I literally cried because it was so beautiful. I’m a huge fan of hers forever! She has a gift, no need for flash and all that just raw talent!

Adele lost weight after she had her son because she wanted to be healthy for him and live a long life. So many people try to destroy her because she lost weight! It’s horrific what society does to human beings.

It would have been amazing to bring the child up in a loving home with her husband and the father but hey ho society has fallen so incredibly far that choosing to stay in a child's life is "amazing"...not hating, just longing for a time when marriage vows were respected
@@tomwilko7841 sounds a bit like my relationship at times TBH... Almost 27 years unmarried but most happy and maybe also at times just fighting to keep it together for the kids. I actually long to be married but my "hubby" doesn't believe in it yet somehow here we are all these years later! ....there is no stronger commitment than kids IMO! But I'm still happy for her! 🤗 x

That’s the house from the video hello when she had no signal! Also she lost 100 lbs got divorced and is trying to just be a 33 year old woman. As a 41 year old I cry every listen as I’ve missed this type of music so much. She makes 2020 and 2021 finally hit home how lonely it was.
She’s hands down one of my all time favorite artists. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song I didn’t love tbh. Songs like skyfall, set fire to the rain, and when we were young come right to mind as my favorites.

Her voice matured somehow, you can hear the experiences in her breaks and her cracks. Such a subtle but important difference from her last album. Masterful.
For some reason, I bet it was actually her second album (21) that you heard before. That seems to be the one that first really exploded in the U.S. I‘ve listened to 19, 21, and 25 so far, and love several songs on each one. “Set Fire To The Rain” seems to be the one to pop into my head the most for the last year.

A voice that doesn't need auto-tune and is complimented by the grand piano. I love the standup bass that comes in on the second verse. I think i am hearing a kick drum as well but that goes to show that with a voice like hers, everything else can be simple. this arrangement is on point

Adele‘s first album 19 was titled because that is how old she was when she wrote produced and sang the songs. Her next album was her sophomore album 21 it is a must listen! Again the title 21 was because the same reason as 19 it was produced and released when she was 21. There’s not one bad song in either album. Most sophomore albums usually have a shaky one but not hers.
My daughter gave me 21 for Christmas when it was first released. This is a very talented and beautiful woman. She also sings my story, and that just adds to the reason that I adore her ❤

Her albums 19, 21, 25 and now 30 are so amazing as her songs are about her life. So much passion and such vocal skill -- she is the best! She touches people! I definitely suggest you listen to more of her work!
That lyric of "I didn't get the chance to choose, what I chose to do" is both relating to getting married at 23/24 years old and having a kid, but ALSO that her career EXPLODED instead of building slowly when she was only 20. She didn't get a chance to experience much life after that.

I know I'm a year + late to this reaction, and I don't even know if you'll read this or not. But I'm going to throw this out there anyway. She redid this song as a duet with none other than *****Chris Stapleton*****!!!!! And if you think this version sounds good, all I can say about their duet is WOW!!! Chris mostly harmonizes with her but he sings throughout the whole song. I've personally never heard a better duet between a man and woman in all my life!! It gave me chills throughout the entire song!!!
