The BEST Side of Landscape Photography

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- I really love to do landscape photography in crazy weather! The photos are usually always much more interesting, moody and atmospheric and this day was no different. On this day, I went to the sea at the beautiful lighthouse "Lyngvig Fyr" just after a fairly big storm (named Ciara, not Ciaran as I say in the video) in Denmark. I spend 6-7 hours on location photographing among the dunes, I got a lot of beautiful landscape photographs, and share a lot of tips and tricks along the way.

“I’m just hammering off while I get the side light”. Hahahahaha. Ah Mads, the connotations in that sentence 🤣🤣
Dirty, dirty mind you have 🤣
Mads Peter Iversen hahahahaha
Excellent pictures as always, but this film particularly stands out from the rest of UA-cam because of the incredible enthusiasm and passion you show for your photography and being out in all weather. Thank you Mads, and keep it up!
Thanks a lot, Robin! Very much appreciated!
Breath-taking landscape. The strong winds that made the meadow grass bent really made me goosebumps.
Saludos desde Sevilla (España) gracias por compartir tus videos y felicidades por tu trabajo.
Lovely use of the light Mads in crazy weather. I particularly like the image with the rainbow.
Hello Mads. I JUST got back from Antartica, where I did see the Greg Mortimer in Ushuaia. She is a marvelous vessel. Antartica is truly amazing. Everyone who signs up to go will love it there.
You are so much fun to watch. It’s impossible not to have fun while watching you enjoy your outing so thoroughly. Great video and great shots!
I just had to watch this again. The golden grass blowing in the foreground was superb. Looks like you had a lot of fun!
Such beautiful lighting. Love the shot with the rainbow. Such beautiful shots.
I like the way you keep your compositions simple, meaning the is not much lead the viewers away from the main subject of the image, but someway the leading lines and clean fore and mid-ground complete the scene. Thanks for sharing.
I have been shooting in Brittany, France before Christmas, and I can tell you that the weather was, for the most part, similar to the one you encountered. It was great, with your video, to relive my own experience.
What i loved the most in this video was the joy you had. It was showing so hard on your face :) and it speaks also in the pictures. Look how many great shots you Made in this one video. And the joyfull mindset is one off the mail reasons i think for the end results. So for me, i enjoyed the pictures but i enjoyed your smile the most!
Despite the elements of the weather you hung in there Mads Peter, as a result you captured some gorgeous shots. Thank you...it’s inspirational.
Thank you very much, Robert! :)
Seeing you enjoying what you were doing makes me happy. I hope one day I can enjoy it to the most like you do.
I just started doing photography and sometimes I get super excited when the condition is nice. But for the most of the time I get frustrated because I am not able to capture the perfect image that I want and I don’t know what I do wrong.
photography and exfoliation at the same time!! Incredible shots and video Mads. Sometimes I feel that a 'like' isn't enough. This is one of those times
Loved all the photos but the one with the rainbow and the one with the light shinning in the lighthouse were so amazing! !!
Those photos are so nice!!!! Thank you for creating such beautiful works of art!
24:00, My God that's beautiful. Your Post-processing is just so warm and epic. This is one of my favorite channels!
Thank you, Jeff, for such warm words :)
What a brilliant place Mads. That wind, so much fun to shot in, and of course watch.
The lighthouse appears to be taller in the vertical shots than the horizontal, it’s only an optical illusion .
Your right, sooo many keepers. The texture of the grasses in the foreground is stunning.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful part of Denmark 🇩🇰 Mads.
And yes, another epic scenery selfie.
Wow, you really worked that location! Because I'm one-quarter Danish, it's exciting for me to see locations in my "ancestral" country. I'm also a sucker for a good rainbow shot with an interesting subject, good frontal lighting, and a dark sky behind!
Day well spent
Love the lighthouse/rainbow dark clouds image.
It made me smile watching you enjoy your day on location!
Just magical light !Stunning ,intimate ,poetic .The landscape near me on Lake Michigan shore is similar to this with Sand dunes ,lighthouses ,sometimes oceanic waves .Thank you for inspiring me as to what is near me as well !
I love the excitement in your videos, you clearly show you're enjoying what you're doing, not just out to take that picture or two to make the video you have to upload on UA-cam to meet your target. Awesome stuff!
Thank you very much! I really do enjoy it yes 😁
Truly stunning images Mads was well worth getting out in stormy conditions, you captured some beautiful light 👌👌👍
Beautiful video and once again your passion for photography and the landscape shine through. Love watching all your videos and always want to go straight out and shoot after watching them, also simply breathtaking images!!
Another awesome vlog, becoming one of my favourite channels.
Hey Mads
forgot to mention, in those kind of conditions, a set of swimming googles work really good, I'm talking about the kind for wearing in swimming pools. An older gentleman I used to work with wore them in the rain, not the most fashionable eyewear but in sandy, misty, rainy conditions you can see.
thank you for sharing all your emontional happyness with us. I can understand what you feel. It is just not to put in words. keep on rockin...
Thanks, Mads, for showing us the beautiful places in Denmark. You captured some beautiful photos and a LOT of them looked like keepers!
@13:22 just a fantastic shot! and that blue hour shot... wow!
Very inspirational Mads! Looking forward to our next bout of bad weather!
Mads Peter, simply love the lighthouse photos, especially with the blowing grass and side lighting. Magnificent. Reminds me of years ago when I was visiting Aarhus from time to time on business and drove over to that coast. So windy and wild. (I also miss the Aarhus Festival in September, what great fun.) Best.
Wonderful to see how the light changed the compositions throughout the day. Lovely shots, what a great day to be out shooting!
Your photography is so captivating, you could make taking photos of meat loaf inspiring.
Fantastic video about photography and not about hiking and traveling to epic location. Nothing wrong with hiking and traveling, its is also a part of the photographying game, but this is realy just about photographing - thanks Mads.
I like how you show: the actual and simple landscape, you thoughts and then finaly shows your epic photos.
Henry Tuner har also som of this approach. But again this is one of the best video you have made.
Best regards
Niels
As the adage says - “don’t go - don’t get!’’ Bad weather makes great pictures, as we can see. Good stuff.
Awesome video, the photo with the rainbow has to be my favourite, the contrast in light is amazing with the dark sky in the background
Hello Mads. Once again great shots. A few years ago I shot there too. Not in such extreme conditions but with a wonderful sunset instead! A great location!
The grass in those lighthouse shots was stunning! I want to shoot with you one day.
You were having too much fun! I thought photography was a serious endeavor? 😃 Fantastic storm light indeed! So glad you finished up with the light on in the lighthouse as that was only thing missing from the earlier shots.
a day at the beach...….. WOW!!!!!!!
Excellent, beautiful and well done and I learned a few things. Thanks for sharing.
wow. This is amazing. Nice job! Great photos Mads! I think if I weren't for you I wouldn't be doing photography. 😊
Mads another great video...thank you for showing us your work and techniques and release the videos at what ever time you want your subscribers will always find time to view them whether on lunch at home at night or over a cup of coffee before the business days starts. Thank you again.
It’s always fun to see your videos.
Amazing photo of the lighthouse with rainbow.
Really epic video Mads ! Love your mindset and your enthusiasm ...... so many different stunning pictures from the same location .... TOP !!!!
Amazing final shots of the light house at sunset ……….. well worth suffering the blustery day 📸👍
Thanks a lot, Mike! Really appreciate it :)
Fabulous video Mads! You never fail to inspire and motivate me to get out there. Love the area and your boundless enthusiasm! Great images!
Thanks a lot, Jim!
It's always refreshing watching your videos Mads especially when I'm feelilng less motivated about my own Landscape Photograhy. Not only are your videos entertaining and motivational but they're quite informative. Thanks for your continued hard work mate. Stay safe and keep shooting.
Thanks a lot! I'm very happy to hear that :)
Thanks, again, for another awesome vlog!
Your pictures make me feel as if I had been there myself. Salutes, mate!
Fantastic... all those photographs will hold a special memory too when you look back in a few years time. Epic light and composition 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing
They will indeed! Thanks a lot, Bryan :)
Fantastic video Mads. The weather was challenging to say the least. Wonderful images.
Most splendid, as always.
Great video as always! Inspirational and educational, what more can I ask for.
Fantastic video. makes me jealous that I don't live near a scenic area like this. Every image you showed on this video was just exceptional in both lighting and composition. I think my favorite image was the one with the rainbow. I also liked tghe shots where the lighthouse was lit up.
Great job, I live on the north west coast of Ireland we see that wind on a weekly basis
wow, what a really great video, and such stunning photos.
One of your best u tube videos
Mads. I love how genuinely excited you get about your art. Great video. Keep up the good work mate. 😀👍
Thanks, Andy! I will 😁👍
Absolutely spectacular vídeo, thank you very much 👌🏼
Mads, great, well done on the lighthouse and rainbow., I love the photo. Michael.
From Ireland ... I'm glad facing the Atlantic head-on works out well for someone else! I never really thought of Denmark as sheltered, so that was an interesting perspective.
I'm quite jealous that you get showers with sunspells - for Ciara and Dennis we got blanket darkness, with so much rain the sky ceases to exist.
We did that too when the storms hit us, this day was just after Ciara ;)
Denmark gets sheltered by the Norways fjells. Most of the time we have wind from north west
My old hood - Im from Ringkøbing. Love that place. Looks like you had a good time. Really Wonderful shots. Inspiring as allways👍🏻👌🏻
One more amazing video with all the joy and passion you lend us while watching the video, i love the images i just find that the cabin draws my attention too much and would remove it, but to someone that knows the spot removing the cabin would appear artificial so i get why you didn't touched it!
Yeah, the main problem is I'd have to do it on 22 photos. Maybe when I've settled on my three favorites I'll clean them a bit more ;)
An incredible vlog with under some extreme conditions. Loved the leading lines your captured from the moving grasses. Some fantastic images came out of this adventure!
Mads, your enthusiasm is catching. I'm at the NRB show this week and hope to share this post with others. Debuting my first film per my channel name. Thank you for sharing this.
A couple from our film set Mads.. What do you think? 20190909_192207.jpg & 20190905_075213 (2).jpg
Nice weather! Something different to the grey weather we mostly have at this time here in Berlin. I know this "grinding sand" from the Netherlands - it hits especially hard if you try to go over the dunes to the shore (and even more if there's a cut in the dunes with some kind of road or path going through). Marvelous! :-)
No surprise - Mads made beautiful pictures! My clear favorite being the landscape orientation of the lit lighthouse toward the end. Not sure how you got sharp images in that hurricane.
Thanks a lot, Ralph! I think there is a video to be made there ;)
Hello Mads and greetings from Australia. I enjoyed this video very much. Great images captured in very challenging conditions. One minor request - it would be very useful if you could post your camera settings under the final images. That would allow us to compare and contrast the various images captured in the course of the day.
Hi Grant, thanks a lot for the kind words. I did in my first many videos ,but I think they distract from the videos and people are often confused asking about my choices between different aperture settings that doesn't really matter. There isn't really anything special about the settings in these photos either :)
Super episode Mads and the use of the light on the sand dunes made for a beautiful collection of images. Also great to see your subscriber count going over 60k, its fantastic to see your channel continuing to grow 👍
Thanks a lot, Jim! Slowly, slowly climbing ;)
It's a beautiful lighthouse indeed. The spiral staircase inside alone makes it worth a visit.
Thanks for sharing this great video, keep up the good work !
Yes, I've seen photos of that, but I didn't get to go inside. Was way too busy outside ;)
I really enjoy you’re exuberance for the weather! What a joy to watch! 💜
Thanks a lot, Erin :)
Hello Mads images were amazing and challenging by the looks of it personally the one with the dark clouds and rainbow blew my mind WOW.
Thanks a lot :)
Great video Mads as always! I put the lighthouse on my bucket list! Great landscape! Greets from northern Germany!
Really well done Peter - do you show "editing" of any of you "fav photos"? Love to see some of you "how to" edits. Thank you Peter for bringing us along on so many of your GREAT adventures. Thank you Peter.
Check the video called "Editing Old Gold" ;)
Else I have a couple from Germany (both a couple of years old) and then I have my editing tutorials for sale.
I love lighthouses! But the best photo’s, to me, ar always the ones with the light is on. Thnx for the good vlog Mads.
Great video....Again! I love the photo's and look forward to my favorite photo's of yours........The next ones you present to us!
Beautiful shots! Always enjoy watching your videos. My favorite is the blue hour shot at @24:03
Great shots!!
This weather is greatly challenging to photograph; great video and photos! I especially like the photo with some foam in the air and the one with the rainbow, where the rainbow is not oversaturated and with a great composition.
I love your videos of Iceland and the Faroer Islands and I hope to go there someday. This video is inspiring and instructive for the area where I live, Isle of Vlieland (the Netherlands); the dune landscape is beautiful for photography. So, thank you :-)!
Stunning video visuals and pictures, again.
Exceptional Photography!
Amazing light! My favourite photo was the one at 24,00!
You are so inspiring! Thank you! :)
Great to share in your excitement , some good pics too but is it more about about the fun of being out?
MJ
Hi, what an awesome video. Keep up the excellent work! I look forward to your next video.
Great video Mads! Surely proves that even cloudy and windy days can come up with great light if you're on the spot! I gotta visit that place some day.
Thanks a lot, Jonas! It can indeed, I think by now most of my portfolio is outside the golden hour ;)
👏👏👏. Superb images, Mads 👊🏻
Ahhhh man, you did it again Mads.............mind blown 🥴
Loved the vid, your explanations and of course the gorgeous photos!
Extreme Weather, We get a little of it now and then where I live, which is an hour east of Los Angeles, today its 75°F (24°C) and winds with gusts to 40mph or about 65kph.
I love being out in that kind of weather, I worked outdoors for years, you just have to be dressed for it, although I remember times my "waterproofs" got so soaked my rubber boots were filled with a few millimeters of water in them.
Hehe yeah, I've got soaked in full rain clothing too. The most surprising.part is my cameras always survive :p
5 am here in UT. Cup of joe and a Mads video makes for a great morning. ☕🤘
Hehe, cheers! Happy you follow along :)
Gorgeous photos, Mads. Your persistence paid off. I have a question for you: Were you at all concerned about the sand scratching or pitting your lens? I very much enjoy, and am inspired by, your work.
Thanks a lot, Ira, no not concerned, I tried to make not to face it front first toward any sand bursts. However, it is still a bit sandy / dusty.
Great images. Would love to see some of those in B&W. I give you a lot of credit, not sure if I would have stuck it out in those conditions
In the sense of photography composition plays a key role in the outcome of the picture as you have pointed out. But to the general public wider is better. I'm almost certain that a properly composed photo compared to just not good composition but wider will get more "likes".
“ ‘I feel like a kid in a candy store.’ “ That’s exactly what I thought early on in the video when you were so excited. I love that feeling. For me it’s when I get the comp and the triangle right. Loved this vlog and the images. That foam blowing in the wind was insane! Question, how do you make the rainbow stand out from the sky? Did you get this shot in camera, or did you have to do anything in post? Keep up the great work, Mads!
Thanks a lot, Adrienne! In regard to the rainbow I put a luminosity mask on it and increased the brightness a bit. I didn't have to do much more than clean the image and add contrast :)
Thanks, Mads! I captured some rainbow photos while I was on vacation, so I’ll try the luminosity mask. Thank you for sharing the tip!
