Tread Life of the Mitas E-07+ vs E-07 Dakar

  • I recently swapped out my rear Mitas E-07+ tire for some new rubber. The tread wear was significantly less than I experienced with the previous tire, a Mitas E-07 Dakar.

    6.7k (almost 7k) miles sounds pretty good for the non-dakar version of a close enough 50/50 tire. Seems like you didn't know quite what you bought when you bought this. But yeah, senter strip or dual compund would probably suit you better if you aren't going to go much off road. Hope the new tiers fit you great! Ride safe.

    Any tyre with a 'centre stripe' will last longer than one with a full tread, but traction in mud and on wet roads will be compromised. the way I look at it in the rainy UK at that the Conti TKC 70 and the Hedi Scout will last longer, but you will wish that they didn't.
    The UK Mitas importer makes it clear that the E07+ won't last as long as an E07 on the back of a big bike...but in my opinion it will last a lot longer than a TKC80, grip better than that tyre on the road and almost as well in most conditions except deep mud off the road.
    But all these tyres are compromises: a 50/50 tyre is half as good as a road tyre on the road and half as good as an off-road tyre off the road.

      Thank you for the comment Richard. I've been happy with my new Heidenau Scout. I stay out of the mud anyway. I've run the TKC80 on other bikes and while I felt like I could corner like a god in the dirt, that feeling was fleeting.

    Hey Keith, I just replaced my Shinko 804/805's with the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires. I actually got about 14,000 km out of the Shinkos but have to say I quite like these TrailMax. I have never been a big fan of Dunlops before but they seem to be doing well. I have about 5,000 km on them and they have hardly any wear. About 20% of that has been dirt. They did extremely well in the rain.

      I haven't heard of those Dunlops. I'll have to look into them for next time.

      I had a F800 GS and ran Shinkos on it for a while. I switched to the Trail Max and never went back. It's a great tire. I didn't care for other Dunlops because they had a tendency to walk with the groves in the pavement on the cruisers I had them on. I was hesitant but once I tried the Trail Max I loved it.

      I have 14000km on a set of trailmax missions mounted on Africa Twin AS. Still wear remaining (about 1/4" of tread depth remaining). They've been fantastic. Lots of gravel forestry, mining and farming roads. Definitely the best so far. I tried the K60 Scout, Motoz GPS Tractionator, and Battle something or other (worst tires ever).

    I loved the e07 dakar on my AT. I got 14k miles out of the rear. I replaced the dakar with the + and didnt like it nearly as much. Mitas does offer the dakar in the 140 size but I believe the 150 has been discontinued. I do have the 140 size on my 690 and really like it!

    I hate any tire with a solid center, they are great for wear but suck as far as dirt and mud traction. E07s are my favorite but I just recently installed E10s.

    Is this vs the E07 Dakar, or E07+Dakar? Cos there is both now. Other people are reporting anywhere between 6 and 12000miles on these

    I just replaced a set of Shinko 705 with 15.000km and both were done!.
    Now I have Mitas e07+ front and the Shinko 705 at the back... So good to know the front tire will last around 10k km.

    Currently having about 2500km (1500 miles) on E07+ Dakar. If I get 6000km out of my MITAS E07+ I'll be happy. That is about 4000miles for you southerners friends. I usually go through 2 back tires for 1 front. But then I again I like good old accelerations on my motorcycle and I am heavy on the throttle. Also riding a super tenere. So far the E07+ have been a real joy. All terrain, even some rough stuff. I prefer them to regular E07 on wet days. That center line on heidenau and regular E07 dont drain water very well at speed.

      Dennis Burton. They are a bit slippy first time on. Break in with about 100km / 60 miles of highway, gravel and offroad. At about 1000km / 600miles they were about perfect all around and very confidence inspiring. A little noisy on highway but not much more then every other 50/50 and knobbies

    I agree completely. I also had the E07 Dakar which lasted considerable longer than the E07+. Great grip with both tires but the longevity of the original E07 is superior.

      I really liked the Heidenau K-60 Scout I had on the back. It has 11,000 miles on it and is going to get replaced next week. The problem was that I started using the bike for commuting a lot more and at 100 miles a day it really wore the tire down. I am switching to Anakee 3's because of all the highway mileage.
      But I would absolutely recommend the Heidenau's.

    I'm currently running the E07 Dakar on My '12 Vstrom , my Wife is running the K60 on her bike. I seem to have a bit better traction if we get into the slick stuff, Hers with the center ridge doesn't hook-up as well. Just what I have noticed. We are definitely doing 50/50 terrain

    • @AdventuresWithMe00
      @AdventuresWithMe00  3 роки тому +1

      sounds like my experience too Daniel. None of these tires will do well in the mud, so I try to avoid that with my Super Tenere. So far my K60 Scout is holding up extremely well. Barely shows any wear.

    Keith, I've used Continental "Battlewings" on both of my Super Teneres'. I do very little off road, almost all pavement. My current front has 14,000 and still at least another thousand miles left, the rear is at 8,900 and in excellent shape, too. Plan on changing out both when rear hits 10,000....

    • @AdventuresWithMe00
      @AdventuresWithMe00  4 роки тому

      Thanks Richard. I do too much dirt road riding to trust the Battle Wings. It's good that some of the 50/50 tires get tread life that's not too far off from the stockers.

    E07+ on the rear on a versys-x (180kg, 300cc). Around 16000km so far with many little "injuries" on the tire due to some off-roading but I estimate it is still good for another 4000km or so. How is the K60 when the road is wet?

    • @AdventuresWithMe00
