I think so. I still want a quick access edit menu of some sort to totally avoid the menu scrolling and diving. I used it on a Gig and have footage of trying to make an adjustment on the fly and it's not pretty 😅
@@SteveSterlacci thanks, I just got mine on the mail, haven’t used midi aside from the foot controller on my mesa Boogie, so definitely feel like a noob, I am definitely loving it so far
the best feature on the Helix is capacitive footswitches, when you double tap a footswitch with your finger, it brings up the relative effect on the screen and you can see what you tweak instantly. it's so immediate, I wish all units did that!!
@@SteveSterlacciI sold my line 6 helix unit. I do miss that feature since I've gotten the fractal FM 9 turbo unit. I wish fractal had that feature. A lot of the learning curves of now and it's easier to navigate.
@GohDingWen I occasionally do that on the stomp xl with the tap tempo footswitch but I'm happy with that slight inconvenience to have immediate access to a pedal when on stage!
You fixed a problem I never had 😅 But I can see a lot of people benefitting from this! Great job! Edit: Except the tap tempo preset change!! Has happened to me and it SUCKS. Also pressing the preset down and tap at the same time changes the stomp/preset/snapshot mode and has caused confusion a few times
Hey would you mind sharing your thoughts on both units and what drove you to sell the QC for the TMP? I’m on the fence between these two. Thanks in advance!
This device is a game changer! I’ve been playing at least twice a week at different churches with the QC for the last couple of years and since adding a midi foot controller to easily access Gig/Grid View, Scene and Stomp modes, my experience playing live with the QC has been night and day. I use a large and heavy Morningstar MC8 just to do what your device does. You have a more elegant and practical solution, for sure! And yes, I have pressed the preset down button a few times by mistake. To resolve that I programmed one of the MC8 buttons to bring me back to my favorite preset, so I can quickly go back to it without having to scramble trying to figure out what I did wrong while playing and trying to hit the right notes!
I got an Airstep today. A programmable midi controller that I will use with my QC. I have the QC on my table and with the Airstep I can controll the looper. So cool.
Normally I come away from these videos and think I don't really need that, the editor, plugins etc. But this is actually a great idea, especially for gigging when there's no time between songs to get into sub menus... But also 4 steps is not that bad. And yes, as much as I love the size of the QC I have accidentally switched presets many times, it doesn't help that I seem to have gig amnesia when it comes to remembering where i've stored presets
I too don't use the 'arrow' buttons to change presets. Completely agree that having the arrow buttons be capable of being changed to another function would be great. I find the feature of being able to hit the two lower right-hand buttons together to change views would be great - if I didn't end up getting it wrong a lot of the time, which makes it completely useless in critical application. So, yes, be able to change the function of the arrow buttons - for me that would be to change view.
This is really sweet! does it have midi thru so you can still receive midi messages to the QC from an interface? Also, what power supply are you using for the QC? That is my biggest issue with this board still.
Agreed on all counts. And I'm singing while playing guitar. Hard to always be looking down and executing the right button taps. Have accidentally changed presets while tap tempo-ing too many times.
we definitely need user-defined switching capabilities, no one can deny that. Is the Cortex View pedal itself re-assignable, or the switch functions are fixed? Being able to open the Looper or Tuner might be more useful to some than all 3 Modes. Unless I'm misunderstanding how this pedal works. You can do most of these functions already with the midi-loopback hack, only needs 1 midi cable.
@@StringVelocity My suggestions, if not too cost prohibitive, for the Cortex View are: 1) Make, the cortex view a size and shape that will line up with the slant of the quad cortex, and make the top two buttons, taller, to prevent accidentally pushing the lower two buttons. Or 2) Make the Cortex View taller on the back, so there is a more drastic angle, than the Quad Cortex. Thus making it easier to hit the top two buttons, without accidentally hitting the lower 2. 3) Make the Cortex View in a Color that will match the majority of Quad Cortex units, not white. I think Black, with the QC matching silver buttons you already are using, is better than white, if matching the color of the QC is expensive because of the type of metal, the QC might be. (The very limited edition, Quad Cortex is black with gold buttons.) 4) Add either 2-Button or Long Press functions, to change from current control features to the Looper and/or tuner functions. Kudos to you and Steve Sterlacci, for quickly getting a prototype out there.
We will take all that into consideration, the back buttons are set up higher than the front buttons to keep from hitting the front buttons. Thanks for the input.
It would be interesting to see a list from experienced QC users of their most desired upgrades/feature additions for those of us that have not yet invested in one. I think the unit is fantastic overall, but there are always improvements and specifically for a gigging musician, your input is valuable.
I’m doing the same with my Mastermind PBC6 or even the BossMS3 (also for the tuner view) but, the thing I don’t really understand is that I often have to click twice for the view to change. As if the first click was to « awaken the machine »..? Great product idea btw!
@SteveSterlacci with you doing so much digital stuff, I'd recommend it. It's relatively affordable, and could be a part of your I wanted to hate it series. I've had one for close to a year now and I enjoy it
For me it was when I switched to A and accidentally full blasted the volume. Had no idea I could Lock off the volume knob. Then when I tap tempo on a 8 note delay song “damn drummer was rushing the bet” I hit the preset down during the tap tempo. Thankfully it was the same amp setup and was not an issue for the rest of the song.
My volume pedal is on the right side of the unit so accidentally switching patches has happened. And I can see the coolness of view definitely. That being said; aren’t these just MIDI messages that can be assigned to any MIDI pedal? I have a Morningstar pedal that I don’t use anymore since moving to QC and if I could do this would be amazing.
Yes. If you can progeam your own midi device, it's unnecessary. But if you dont want to be bothered with midi, it's pre set and the works done. He can even customize it to do whatever functions you want it to
I had my ‘midi baby’ by disaster area switching view for me for a bit and I decided to just go back to the dual foot switch press to change between stomp and scenes. I’m still nervous about hitting preset down by accident so I save a duplicate preset in that slot just in case it happens… but it hasn’t happened live yet, only when I’m barefoot at home.
I really wish they would listen to gigging guitarists in a genre other than metal when developing the qc... Steve have you noticed you have to back out of the parameters screen to use the undo button then you have no idea if it took your tapping of it, so you have to go back to the parameters to see and then repeat with undo? I hate that... Also wish there was a button on the screen to get to gig view, i hate swiping
You only saved one step. I have accidentally changed presets. Pain in the backside. I agree the switches on the right should be programmable. That would be a game changer.
You can toggle gig view right from the parameter adjustment. So you lose 2 steps of swiping in and out of gig view, and you lose the step of hitting the check mark out of the parameter adjustment. That's 3 by my count.
@@SteveSterlacciI think he means you’re only actually removing one step (the check after editing) and the other steps don’t go away you just replace doing them with your foot instead of your finger. Cool device though nonetheless even if it didn’t save any time, it’s still cool functionality wise. Nice job bro.
