What's not to love about Peter Sagan? He's the best all-around cyclist in the world, and also a great guy with a great attitude and personality. I'm looking forward to watching him win much more in the coming years.
His attack was timed perfectly at the toughest part of the course. Brains and heart! Well deserved. This may take him to the next level of dominance this spring. Going to be a fun year of racing!
+bianchi1885 Yep! All the drivers have got very good to great handles. But Sagan is something extra. Just can't hate this guy. So different. Very happy for him after kind of a difficult period, even if this year was quite OK, except La Vuelta.

+James. S so much better than the US-feed. Soon as I walked up to the event and this was coming through the PA I turned to my wife and said, "thank god they have Sherwen doing this!" But, that was only at the out-door areas. It wasn't a few minutes later we walked into the Fan Fest zone and it was only the US-feed. Sorry, much like EPL games, I prefer the UK commentary. Less words with more being said, if that makes any sense. The US people simply talk to talk, they don't let any action unfold, or give it any space to breathe. It's just stat after stat, fact after fact, over and over and over...it's like, "STOP!"
Absolutely deserved the rainbow jersey. His consistency and aggression during the TDF was epic. It seemed for weeks that any time there was a break, he was there. Mopping up points like some sort of innovative machine that you see on the shopping channel, except unlike those gadgets he consistently worked... He copped some flak for the number of times he finished second on a number of stages, but seriously I believe that this guy is the best all around cyclist on the planet, and that's by some margin. And now lets face facts, he's won the one which really counts. Here's an idea, #PS1t1tRC’s. UCI was simply stupid to fine him for what happened in Spain. These guys are not only superb athletes, but they are (at best) the kind of people who get more than a bit grumpy when they loose, and let not only themselves but most of all their team down. Having that weight bearing down on you, and then to be taken out by a film crew? You increase the heat on a pressure cooker, what happens? Bottom line the reaction is outside the pressure cooker's control. Hand on heart (therefore typed slowly and methodically with my left hand) Peter Sagan is the future of cycling. The next "X" number of years outside the Alps or the Pyrenees anybody watching a race will be asking themselves, "where's Sagan?". And the simple answer will remain, "Exactly where he wants to be."
+James Milne Agreed. UCI and TdF need to figure out who the stars of their sport are. And its not Lance Armstrong.I'm getting tired of the Tour de Mountain Climbing, sorry Tour de France. Beef up (considerably) the time bonuses for finishing top 10, and in each every race. This sitting waiting for the mountains is killing the sport; Sagan is one of the few racing every day.
+brian fastabend It is all media stunt from Oleg to get attention. He cannot do anything with the contract. Even if Peter is not winning (TDF), his marketing value/potential is 10 fold of any other bike rider. Great job Peter!
+Sir Simon "Vuelta fail"? You mean the Vuelta where he won a GT stage and then abandoned after getting hit by a motorcycle? Not exactly a fail by pro cycling standards.
SKarea51 The fall, which was initiated by the motorcyle, was a mistake/fail by the motorcyclyst! Gosh I just wanted to say that he earned it! .... after that particular fail of the motorcyclist...
The final few kilos of this race indicate that Sagan's ability is as a strongman and breakaway specialist, rather than trying to mix it up every stage amongst the pure sprinters. He may even have a future in winning short and prologue time trials. Chapeau Peter Sagan !
+Steve Gandalf It is not a long shot, though, to imagine he's been using these years to master his stamina and his own relationship with different race length. I am confident that, as he matures in-stage and in-race strength distribution and perfects team strategy-building (having a good team behind, from bottom to top, would certainly help), he may peak at around 27-28 yo and eventually get a GT, or even a string of them. I especially wish so because Peak Sagan must be a true spectacle to witness, on and off the race.
@6:22 futile but the last slim chance they had to catch him... the Belgian moves over but gets no help. what display of pure power and handling by Sagan... that is what we call going balls out. great finish and worthy winner!
If anyone is in richmond, go see the cobblestone hill they're climbing up (23rd and E Franklin St). First time I came up to it on my bike, I immediately hopped off and walked it up the hill. (Which was strenuous in and of itself.)
Richmonder here. A buddy and I do the full course (with minor detours since some of the route is inaccessible now) every once in a while and though I haven't had to walk my bike, sometimes it feels like walking would be faster. We're talking bare minimum speed to stay upright. It's scary in a car! The videos really don't do this or the Libby Hill climb justice. How these guys fly up these hills like they do, blows my mind every time I watch it.
This would have been exciting to watch. But the person who posted it made sure there was a picture of Peter Sagan on the thumbnail, so when I searched "Mens elite race world championships 2015" and it came up, I already knew who had won, without watching the video, or any other video of this race. Thanks a lot, you complete MUPPETS at the UCI.
This is the official UCI highlights video and there's not a single shot of Libby Hill, the main highlight of the course...sure 23rd street was arguably even better viewing and the winning move went from there, but it's like not showing the Ghisallo in a highlights video for Lomdardia or Arenburg for Roubaix.

1. Crappy venue / course ... other than those two short hills. But then again, we're all used to Europe and mountains and castles and all that. 2. Sagan descends and corners like I walk down stairs. I've descended Ventoux hitting 100+kph and I'm still utterly in awe. 3. Sagan is the (new) man. Someone come up with a Spartacus-like name for him, will you? Sagan deserves it. We all want it. 4. 2015 cyclist of the year = Sagan ... hands down. Most interesting and important and involved rider in TdF, and now 2015 WC.
