I'm actually getting excited for the XR... I preordered a black 128 GB version. I'm not just trying to make myself feel better for not stepping up to the XS/XS Max, either. Those are great phones and better in some ways. Just not better enough to warrant the price jump. I would not be surprised if next year we see an XR Plus.

A lot of these devices are just different in that they provide different pictures different modes different lighting‘s different screen colors, warmer or bluer, whatever they’re all good phones they’re all relevant, it’s just depends on what you like as to whether or not it’s something that’s going to get bought.
Thank you for pointing out the 128GB model for only $50 more. That’s the one to get if you are going with the XR. I don’t know why other reviewers are not pointing that out.
Same upgrade here. I adore my new XR. I usually wait to upgrade until support ends, and the SE is still supported until September 2020, but the SE’s screen is *so* small at this point that it’s *too* small for apps like UA-cam and Twitter to even properly fit all elements on screen anymore. I wanted a potential SE2 to fit an X-style display on the tiny SE housing, but the SE2 (or reportedly “iPhone 9”) is just going to be an iPhone 8-like phone with an A13 chip and 2nd gen TouchID unlock speed: too boring even for an entry-level iPhone unlike the first SE (which was at least a final return of the beloved flat-edge design of the 4/4S/5/5S)
My boyfriend just bought me an XR today for my b day and I couldn’t be happier with the phone ! It’s faster and I love the Face ID , as well as the screen and just everything about it !
I upgraded from the 6s plus to the XR with 128G of storage space. It took no time to get used to not having a home button, but it is still available in "settings" if you want it. So far, great phone, great features. The IOS 14 caused an issue with my 5GHz WiFi signal, but the 14.1 update seems to have fixed the issue.

it looks like that because some of the features when you start using you don't feel like you're doing any effort to use them or have to remember to use them. You only miss them when that feature is removed. 3D touch is that kind of feature. When you start using it just becomes part of the user experience. There are many features in iOS which are being rarely talked about but people only notice them when they are removed.
I don't care what anyone says, the resolution of that screen is inexcusable in 2018. It couldn't have saved them that much money in parts. I'm okay with LCD, but not 800p.
The excuse would be better battery life. Ask the average person if they want a phone that has a super sharp display and decent battery life...or a phone that has a decent screen but great battery life. Guess which one they will choose? For the record, I saw the XR and the display looked great. By having lower resolution it doesn't take as much battery to drive the pixels. People are just looking at resolution number instead of just checking out to see what it looks like.
Looked as good or better than our 8 plus. That's all that matters. Now, it's cheaper than we paid for that 8, has even better battery life, and bigger screen. Hmmmm....
Upgraded from my tiny SE to a XR. Going from 4.0” to 6.1” is an *insane* upgrade. Anyone with a normal iPhone 6/6S/7/8 (the 4.7” non-plus models) would experience feeling with the XS Max’s or 11 Pro Max’s absurd 6.5” screen. It’s a parallel experience to how I was with gaming devices: It’s a lot like being on a small 3.5” Nintendo 3DS and ignoring the 4.8” 3DS XL, instead skipping straight to the 6.2” Nintendo Switch But even more impressive is the speakers. The XR’s speakers thoroughly curb stomp not just the 5/5C/5S/SE, but also the 6/6+/6S/6S+/7/7+/8/8+. While there haven’t been any major breakthroughs in how loud smartphones can get, the the bass and stereo effect on the X/XR/XS/XSmax/11/11Pro/11ProMax outclasses most midrange laptops and are approaching the quality of the iPad Air 3 and MacBook Pro 13”. I seriously haven’t needed to use any of my legacy headphones since buying my XR and even my AirPods have been less of a necessity with the XR than they were with my SE (thus slowing down the deterioration of the buds’ and case’s battery through cutting out dozens of charge cycles per year).
$800 can get me 128G iPhone that's bigger than the XS and better battery life.... I don't need a great camera. And I view videos at 480 or 720 anyways. Plus you save $300.

I do photography and all I have to say is even with my Xs testing I have taken way better photos than you showed here. People don’t understand that these are not meant for quickly point and tap. You have to count for lighting and focus.
I'm so SO pleased witht his one. I had Andriods before, but since getting this one, I'm never looking back. Everything just floats. I love that it's a little bit heavier then I'm used to, and it does not feel plastic. I love it. And the battery time is awesome. Using that 3D touch every day.

I think people have the iPhone XR's position messed up. The iPhone XR isn't in the "budget" category, it's in the premium category. The XS/Max are luxury devices.
I had the option of choosing the S10e or iPhone XR but ended up choosing S10e because of more features, better camera, lower price tag, better display, etc, etc. The only thing I will miss is Software updates on iPhone😔
I tried hanging onto my 6S... figured it would be good for another year or so... until it started lagging and refusing to connect to Bluetooth, on top of never being able to connect to mobile data. I just got the XR this weekend and I’m honestly blown away. The 6S seems so cheap and flimsy in comparison... it’s amazing how far phones have advanced.
3D touch is a big loss, so is not a minor omission IMO. They include it on the 6s and up, so is that now considered a superior feature? I always use it for switching apps. If people are nearly spending the same amount, why not just spend a bit more for a superior display on the Xs, considering the display is the single most important feature IMO. Also those bezels on the LCD model look thick as. . Also apparently the glass on the back of the Xr is last years generation, while the Xs has the newer generation. So being cheap and then dropping it could end up being an expensive repair. False economy I think.
@@jordanmcheng I can tell you that a case doesn't always stop the back getting broken when it is dropped on concrete. It only helps to reduce the risk. Apparently the glass on the Xs is tougher, which also reduces the risk

Just got an XR and already have a Note 9. I purchased the XR because it was only $299 from Verizon, believe it or not, and It will work seamlessly with my iMac. Very cool.
For anyone talking shit about the screen that doesn’t own this phone or an iPhone at all, I swear to you guys you cannot notice a difference unless comparing them to their more expensive models. I’ve had this phone since release and it is a stellar phone. It literally has the same chip as the new models, the camera is crisp quality, Face ID is great. The price is a little steep even for a budget phone , If it were 650 it would’ve been a popular phone no doubt. Of course people who aren’t interested in the apple ecosystem, or enjoy android more would not pay for this phone and you’d be SMART not to, but for people who have really been wanting to enter the Apple Ecosystem, this is without a doubt a great entry choice. Amazing phone honestly. 8/10.
Notice everyone is talking about "oh the colors of the phones" are great. Notice in the video where he's walking around taking video of the dog, what color is the phone, idk he has a case on it just like 80% of people will be doing. My guess is that 70 percent of the XRs sold will be black.

@@SuperCoalBlox Check out the video settings, do you see 828p between 720p and 1080p. That's because no youtube videos have that resolution. The max resolution the XR can play is 720p hence it will be a 720p screen.
The beauty of 3D Touch was the ability to select items another layer deep without lifting your finger . Like grouping things in folders and having the ability to 3D Touch on the folder and dragging the finger to the desired app. Or 3d touching on an app, say the podcast app, and dragging the finger to the desired podcast. You could do this on jailbroken phones. Apple made it useless by bringing up a menu after the 3D Touch which then requires you to tap again. You might as well just open the app and select at that point

Get the XR. It is way better than 8 plus. The only minus point is telephoto lens and lower resolution screen. And you will not notice the differences actually because both are LCD. XR is an upgrade compare to the 8 plus.
Personally I have the Max but the XR is more impressive then I expected (when I heard a budget version I was reminded of how much worse the iPhone C was compared to the models released alongside it) People will complain about tech specs/resolution but for people who actually get it and use it - they will be blown away. Preorders are higher than last years 8 and 8 plus so... looks like a winner already

No 3D Touch - no problem - you don't use it anyway! We are sure! Single camera instead of double one - you wouldn't use it anyway! (doesn't matter that even 7 Plus got one) Display on par (when it comes to pixel density) with 5-6 years old phones - you will not notice the difference! It is worth it, believe us... Now seriously. Guys, don't be Apple's attorneys when it comes to this phone. I am using an X, so I know what it is like to spend a thousand on a phone just because it is Apple. But... You pretend not to see that Apple robbed the XR of all the expensive technology and materials that made the X (and now the XS/Max) unique in some ways and left it with features that don't raise the production cost. It should be around 600$ (which, still, is not a cheap phone!), looking at all that.

I’m upgrading from a 2015 64Gb iPhone 6S Plus to a 256Gb 8 Plus in a couple of days. I was planning on settling for an XR, but in South Africa the latter just does not make sense. On a 24 month contract the 256Gb 8 Plus is significantly cheaper than the 128Gb XR. For less money my new 8 Plus trumps the XR with: • dual cameras, • better portrait mode, • better screen, • double the memory, • 3D touch and fingerprint security, which I prefer and • a lightning to 3,5mm headphone adapter in the box. The only benefits that the 128Gb XR - and for that matter the XS and XS Max - can offer me is a slightly faster A12 processor chip and technology that is one year newer, but at a maddeningly excessive price.
I bought this phone and I love it. I see people complaining. If you don’t want it don’t get it. I have a Note8 and a XR. I use this phone more than my note. If you want an android get an android if you want an apple get one.
My iPhone 6s Plus took a bath in my washer tonight so I frantically went to the mall to find a phone this one is the only the that caught my eye. The feel of it reminds me of the note 3 I had few years back that I miss
I got mine few weeks ago for around 700$...I don't miss the camera option that XS has, XR takes great photos. But what I'm most impressed is the battery life, it lasts almost two days with above normal usage (twitter, instagram, youtube). It's really "affordable" if you think about getting an Apple phone.

It's cool if an Android phone is working better for you, mate. This iPhone has the best processing power that only Android smartphone makers can dream of getting from Qualcomm sometime in the future. This iPhone has one of the best smartphone cameras. This iPhone can potentially get 5-6 years of software updates. This iPhone smokes each and every Android phone when it comes to gaming performance. The apps (including Google ones) on this and every other iPhone going all the way back to 6S run more smoother and are of higher quality than on ANY Android phone.
Mine says 8.62 for system files on ios 12.1.1 and the bloatware probably puts it up to 12-15 gigs. But surprisingly you have the option of deleting nearly everything
I’m using the XR Red and find the phone absolutely amazing. I’ve been using the phone for 2 weeks now and wow just wow ! I’m coming over from SE. I was going to get the iPhone 11 as it’s pretty much identical to the XR but I had to pay more for the 11. I just hope in 2 years from now the new iPhones will be even better as I’m going to find it extremely hard to stop using the XR.

I think it just comes to opinion and budget. Even I know that the XR and XS aren’t very different and you aren’t missing much opportunity, but I bought the XS and I enjoy it.
So much hate for the resolution. By all means complain at the lack of OLED, the lack of HDR or the ‘deep blacks’... but not the resolution. That is such a red herring. At normal viewing distances and normal use of your phone your eyes literally cannot tell the difference between 720 and 180p on a phone. For reference, you have to sit within a few feet of a 55” 4K TV to notice the differnce beheeen 4K and 1080p. You’d have to hold the phone up to your eye or zoom in purposely to notice difference. The XR screen is definitely worse, but at least criticise it properly. Perhaps it is just the principle of apple ‘holding back’ that offends, but the resolution of the XR should not be of practical concern.
I’m loving my Iphone XR. The thing I like most is the dual sim function; I have At&t Unlimited plan paired w/ a Verizon data only plan (via Verizon sim from Ipad data plan $11.98 for 1st gb plus $10 for each extra gb). My cell phone service is amazing now. It used to be I couldn’t use my phone at work but now because of the dual sims it works everywhere. My only issue was with At&t regarding activating the esim; they don’t really know how to do it, I had to explain what I had read online and I took them 1 hour and 33 minutes, (my 8 year timed them) to complete the task.
Android user here, recently wanted to change to a different ecosystem so came to apple , this phone is honestly not bad. When I’m not at home I mostly watch videos at 360 to 480p anyways I only watch 1080p at home . The only thing I don’t like is the system, but that’s because I’m not used to it, I had the pixel 2 before this and I found that phone amazing. But this phone is great if you already like apple or want to jump onto apple. Easy buy.
If you have not seen or used the phone in person yet then you should not be voicing an opinion with no backing, I saw the phone today at best buy and I could not notice the 828p screen or the fact it had no 3d touch becuse it had something similar just with a different way of accessing it.

Upgraded from my tiny SE to a XR. Going from 4.0” to 6.1” is an *insane* upgrade. Anyone with a normal iPhone 6/6S/7/8 (the 4.7” non-plus models) would experience feeling with the XS Max’s or 11 Pro Max’s absurd 6.5” screen.
It’s a parallel experience to how I was with gaming devices: It’s a lot like being on a small 3.5” Nintendo 3DS and ignoring the 4.8” 3DS XL, instead skipping straight to the 6.2” Nintendo Switch
But even more impressive is the speakers. The XR’s speakers thoroughly curb stomp not just the 5/5C/5S/SE, but also the 6/6+/6S/6S+/7/7+/8/8+. While there haven’t been any major breakthroughs in how loud smartphones can get, the the bass and stereo effect on the X/XR/XS/XSmax/11/11Pro/11ProMax outclasses most midrange laptops and are approaching the quality of the iPad Air 3 and MacBook Pro 13”. I seriously haven’t needed to use any of my legacy headphones since buying my XR and even my AirPods have been less of a necessity with the XR than they were with my SE (thus slowing down the deterioration of the buds’ and case’s battery through cutting out dozens of charge cycles per year).
My favorite part is that apple markets the LCD as a liquid retina 😂

I do photography and all I have to say is even with my Xs testing I have taken way better photos than you showed here. People don’t understand that these are not meant for quickly point and tap. You have to count for lighting and focus.
3D Touch is the best. I always use 3D touch on my Iphone and I think Iphone XR will be much better with 3D touch instead of Haptic touch.

I'm so SO pleased witht his one. I had Andriods before, but since getting this one, I'm never looking back. Everything just floats. I love that it's a little bit heavier then I'm used to, and it does not feel plastic. I love it. And the battery time is awesome. Using that 3D touch every day.

I still use the iPhone SE and its working fine.
I had the option of choosing the S10e or iPhone XR but ended up choosing S10e because of more features, better camera, lower price tag, better display, etc, etc. The only thing I will miss is Software updates on iPhone😔
I tried hanging onto my 6S... figured it would be good for another year or so... until it started lagging and refusing to connect to Bluetooth, on top of never being able to connect to mobile data.
I just got the XR this weekend and I’m honestly blown away. The 6S seems so cheap and flimsy in comparison... it’s amazing how far phones have advanced.
3D touch is a big loss, so is not a minor omission IMO. They include it on the 6s and up, so is that now considered a superior feature? I always use it for switching apps. If people are nearly spending the same amount, why not just spend a bit more for a superior display on the Xs, considering the display is the single most important feature IMO. Also those bezels on the LCD model look thick as. . Also apparently the glass on the back of the Xr is last years generation, while the Xs has the newer generation. So being cheap and then dropping it could end up being an expensive repair. False economy I think.

@@jordanmcheng I can tell you that a case doesn't always stop the back getting broken when it is dropped on concrete. It only helps to reduce the risk. Apparently the glass on the Xs is tougher, which also reduces the risk

Just got an XR and already have a Note 9. I purchased the XR because it was only $299 from Verizon, believe it or not, and It will work seamlessly with my iMac. Very cool.
For anyone talking shit about the screen that doesn’t own this phone or an iPhone at all, I swear to you guys you cannot notice a difference unless comparing them to their more expensive models. I’ve had this phone since release and it is a stellar phone. It literally has the same chip as the new models, the camera is crisp quality, Face ID is great. The price is a little steep even for a budget phone , If it were 650 it would’ve been a popular phone no doubt. Of course people who aren’t interested in the apple ecosystem, or enjoy android more would not pay for this phone and you’d be SMART not to, but for people who have really been wanting to enter the Apple Ecosystem, this is without a doubt a great entry choice. Amazing phone honestly. 8/10.

The beauty of 3D Touch was the ability to select items another layer deep without lifting your finger . Like grouping things in folders and having the ability to 3D Touch on the folder and dragging the finger to the desired app. Or 3d touching on an app, say the podcast app, and dragging the finger to the desired podcast. You could do this on jailbroken phones. Apple made it useless by bringing up a menu after the 3D Touch which then requires you to tap again. You might as well just open the app and select at that point

Get the XR. It is way better than 8 plus. The only minus point is telephoto lens and lower resolution screen. And you will not notice the differences actually because both are LCD. XR is an upgrade compare to the 8 plus.

Personally I have the Max but the XR is more impressive then I expected (when I heard a budget version I was reminded of how much worse the iPhone C was compared to the models released alongside it) People will complain about tech specs/resolution but for people who actually get it and use it - they will be blown away. Preorders are higher than last years 8 and 8 plus so... looks like a winner already

I am using an X, so I know what it is like to spend a thousand on a phone just because it is Apple. But...
You pretend not to see that Apple robbed the XR of all the expensive technology and materials that made the X (and now the XS/Max) unique in some ways and left it with features that don't raise the production cost. It should be around 600$ (which, still, is not a cheap phone!), looking at all that.
I really think iPhones are extremely overpriced but I accept that people buy it for the quality and the simplicity of the ecosystem.
But the XR just plain don't make sense. Terrible outdated specs, yet still at a pretty premium price. This reviewer is highlighting all the latest tech that has been left out and says who needs them. So why the hell are these companies advancing their tech when nobody needs them... according to this terrible review...
I’m upgrading from a 2015 64Gb iPhone 6S Plus to a 256Gb 8 Plus in a couple of days. I was planning on settling for an XR, but in South Africa the latter just does not make sense. On a 24 month contract the 256Gb 8 Plus is significantly cheaper than the 128Gb XR. For less money my new 8 Plus trumps the XR with: • dual cameras, • better portrait mode, • better screen, • double the memory, • 3D touch and fingerprint security, which I prefer and • a lightning to 3,5mm headphone adapter in the box. The only benefits that the 128Gb XR - and for that matter the XS and XS Max - can offer me is a slightly faster A12 processor chip and technology that is one year newer, but at a maddeningly excessive price.
I bought this phone and I love it. I see people complaining. If you don’t want it don’t get it. I have a Note8 and a XR. I use this phone more than my note. If you want an android get an android if you want an apple get one.

My iPhone 6s Plus took a bath in my washer tonight so I frantically went to the mall to find a phone this one is the only the that caught my eye. The feel of it reminds me of the note 3 I had few years back that I miss
I got mine few weeks ago for around 700$...I don't miss the camera option that XS has, XR takes great photos. But what I'm most impressed is the battery life, it lasts almost two days with above normal usage (twitter, instagram, youtube). It's really "affordable" if you think about getting an Apple phone.

It's cool if an Android phone is working better for you, mate. This iPhone has the best processing power that only Android smartphone makers can dream of getting from Qualcomm sometime in the future. This iPhone has one of the best smartphone cameras. This iPhone can potentially get 5-6 years of software updates. This iPhone smokes each and every Android phone when it comes to gaming performance. The apps (including Google ones) on this and every other iPhone going all the way back to 6S run more smoother and are of higher quality than on ANY Android phone.
If you get the 64mb XR how much memory is used by OS ?
Mine says 8.62 for system files on ios 12.1.1 and the bloatware probably puts it up to 12-15 gigs. But surprisingly you have the option of deleting nearly everything
I’m using the XR Red and find the phone absolutely amazing. I’ve been using the phone for 2 weeks now and wow just wow ! I’m coming over from SE. I was going to get the iPhone 11 as it’s pretty much identical to the XR but I had to pay more for the 11. I just hope in 2 years from now the new iPhones will be even better as I’m going to find it extremely hard to stop using the XR.

I think it just comes to opinion and budget. Even I know that the XR and XS aren’t very different and you aren’t missing much opportunity, but I bought the XS and I enjoy it.

So much hate for the resolution. By all means complain at the lack of OLED, the lack of HDR or the ‘deep blacks’... but not the resolution. That is such a red herring. At normal viewing distances and normal use of your phone your eyes literally cannot tell the difference between 720 and 180p on a phone. For reference, you have to sit within a few feet of a 55” 4K TV to notice the differnce beheeen 4K and 1080p. You’d have to hold the phone up to your eye or zoom in purposely to notice difference. The XR screen is definitely worse, but at least criticise it properly. Perhaps it is just the principle of apple ‘holding back’ that offends, but the resolution of the XR should not be of practical concern.

I’m loving my Iphone XR. The thing I like most is the dual sim function; I have At&t Unlimited plan paired w/ a Verizon data only plan (via Verizon sim from Ipad data plan $11.98 for 1st gb plus $10 for each extra gb). My cell phone service is amazing now. It used to be I couldn’t use my phone at work but now because of the dual sims it works everywhere. My only issue was with At&t regarding activating the esim; they don’t really know how to do it, I had to explain what I had read online and I took them 1 hour and 33 minutes, (my 8 year timed them) to complete the task.
Android user here, recently wanted to change to a different ecosystem so came to apple , this phone is honestly not bad. When I’m not at home I mostly watch videos at 360 to 480p anyways I only watch 1080p at home . The only thing I don’t like is the system, but that’s because I’m not used to it, I had the pixel 2 before this and I found that phone amazing. But this phone is great if you already like apple or want to jump onto apple. Easy buy.

If you have not seen or used the phone in person yet then you should not be voicing an opinion with no backing, I saw the phone today at best buy and I could not notice the 828p screen or the fact it had no 3d touch becuse it had something similar just with a different way of accessing it.
