  • With this woodworking idea we can tilt the jigsaw cutting blade to a 45 degrees angle and make perfect miter cuts in wood. This is a portable jigsaw jig to make straight vertical miter cuts. It is almost like a jigsaw table, with the bearings that guide the cutting blade, but in this case we make a portable jig, so we can miter cut with a jigsaw. It will help to make nice miter joints in wood and lots of woodworking projects.
The original woodworking idea to make a portable jig for the jigsaw:

Good idea, specialy the way you did with the bearings and the plastic rawl plugs.
    Real simple.
With a small adjustment you will get the whole jig perfect.

Another small improvement to the bearings support, would be to cut a thin slot between the bearings, and use a screw to close that gap just enough to take out any excessive "free play" between the bearings and the blade. In that way, different thichness blades can be used without binding and without too much play.

Good clip, thanks. I also made a clip, for sawing with the jigsaw at 45°. Good luck.

Perhaps you and your readers will like to know that there is a brand of jigsaw blades that makes good quality LONGER than the usual lenght blades, called "WILPU", made in Germany. Those blades are useful when using a ball bearing supported jig like this.
Another tip is to place varying thickness spacer plates under the base of the jigsaw, in order to rise the saw so that now a different, unused part of the long blade can be used to cut. That is advantageous for distributing the teeth wear along a longer part of the blade, making it last longer and having more "new" teeth ready to cut when the few teeth that are used initially, get dull.
Another small improvement to the bearings support, would be to cut a thin slot between the bearings, and use a fine thread screw to close that gap just enough to take out any excessive "free play" between the bearings and the blade. In that way, different thickness blades can be used without binding and without too much play. A third bearing placed behind the back edge of the blade would receive the load when pushing hard on the cut on thicker wood and using a longer blade. Believe me, I have repaired a few jigsaws where the push back on the mechanism caused wear, because, the longer the blade, the more backward load. Better jigsaws have a notched roller at the back of the blade, but adding that third back bearing at the tip of the blade will help!
    Best wishes from Mexico.

    cool
I think the heavy part should be stationary, and the light part should move. What if the jig saw is stationary, and the wood moves like a table saw jig saw. That might defeat the whole point of a jig saw. Then the angle might be better.

    Good idea mate. 👍🏽
A little bit of fine tuning to get the jig to sit flush while making the cut should get you a much better result. 👌🏽
Looking forward to seeing your results.

I think i could put a small mirror in front of the workpiece to see if i keep the jig on the workpiece while i cut 😁

Great idea. In my observation with my problem of cutting 45 degree with jigsaw is to be able to hold the jig plate stay parallel to the board we're cutting. If we have a way to have the board stick parallel to the plate starting from beginning, I'm sure your idea will work better. Have you tried to flip your jig and mount it on stationary table and move the board to cut on top of it?

This is a genius idea! I hate using the jigsaw because my blade always seems to wander about away from straight. I'm going to be doing this in the future!

Great jig for cutting mitre--joints on long boards.
I think you need to put a board on top of the jig to stop the top board flexing, just like you did with the lower board to stop the vibrations. :-)

Hmmm, i did not think about that. I use a thin board, so maybe i flex it when i press down 🤔👍

1st. Nice jig. I hope you can get the slight angle difference sorted. Could it be the blade flexing just a little bit? Cheers, Huw

Thank you 😃. I think it is not easy to keep the jigsaw jig on the workpiece. Maybe it is not as far from 45 degrees. I'll know when i make a wooden box 😁

Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea. It'll help me a lot. Can I increase the distance between the jigsaw shoe and the wood plate to be able cut thicker wood? Would you change anything if your jigsaw blade is 9 inches? Muchas gracias.

    • @WoodworkingwithDIYtools
      @WoodworkingwithDIYtools  4 роки тому +1

Well, not sure how this will work with very thick wood. The thicker the wood, the bigger the error if you have any little 45 degree angle shift
