      I remember I went to a philosophy class on aristotle, called aristotle a dumb bitch that held scientific progress behind because people believed him over democritus about the consistency of the matter. The teacher got mad "he was a man of his time" I was like bro democritus was waaaay before aristotle and was smart unlike him, and my greek fascist loving teacher truly got upset bc aristotle might have been a dumb mofo, but he was the teacher of Alexander the great, and was a huge imperialism lover. Why would calling aristotle dumb trigger them so hard, when ancient greece had so many actually smart people (that we would punish with death penalty like socrates, bc my country hates smart people and only worships the dumbasdes)? They are predators related to ferrets which are super hard to breed and the pelts are super small so producing any significant amount of leather from them requires the raising and slaughter of an utterly obscene number of animals. Historical European nobility and monarchs used to wear all manner of elaborate costumes made of the stuff as a display of their wealth. We’re talking giant robes and capes. One thing about the US conquest West of the Appalachians that people don't necessarily realize is that it was not the British empire, which wanted a tactical peace with the various Indians and to self-impose limits on colonial settlers to preserve that peace, pushing this. It was the settlers themselves. Manifest destiny was not a product of the American revolution but a motivation for it, as settlers felt much more comfortable taking an aggressive foreign policy with the Indians than the British themselves did. This is also one reason why America was so pro-gun. Arming settlers allows them to more efficiently combat the Indians. In much the same way that Israel is more radically Zionist than its western backers are, and Israeli settlers are more radically Zionist than Israel is. American settlers drove separation from Britain not because they were tired of being oppressed by the British so much as because they were tired of the British telling them who they were allowed to oppress and how much.

    Hello Hakim, I am a viewer of yours and other leftist channels from Taiwan, its really hard for anyone to find actual people who understands what socialism is about especially because how our education system and media tries its hardest to make it seem evil. I still feel ashamed how I used to hop on the nationalistic liberal bandwagon lol.
    Anyways, I saw your video on ben sheepro and china where you talked about issues with taiwan's status as an independent nation. I personally believe in national self-determination and think that people of a region should be able to become independent if they wish so (although it being just a distraction to the class war). • @jeffisfine
      @jeffisfine 7 місяців тому +15

      Not sure if they are translated into your primary language, but Lenin has a lot of good articles on the socialist concept of national self determination if you haven't read them yet. Basically, socialists recognize (important word here) the right of nations to secede. For instance, if the nation of Taiwan, left entirely alone by outside forces, decided they wanted to secede from China, socialists would recognize that right.
      However, recognition of a right is not the same as moral and material support for each case of national secession. Using Taiwan again, there are two reasons (probably more) not to support it. First, there largely is not a nation of Taiwan anymore. Many indigenous peoples were killed in the White Terror by Chiang Kai-shek and IIRC they have largely been taken over demographically by other ethnicities. Second, secession by the territory of Taiwan would, under current conditions, simply be an annexation of it by the US. It would be a boon for imperialist powers, so socialists would not support it for tactical reasons.
      The only true self-determination by the nation of Taiwan would be the indigenous population seceding from the ROC government. In the future, where there isn't imperialist intervention in Taiwan's affairs, there could possibly be an argument for supporting the secession of Taiwan from China.

While it was very much the case before the Second World War (looking at you Jackson), WWII allowed the US to become the top dog by virtue of being the only industrialized power that wasn’t bombed into the dirt. This pretty much supercharged the tendency for our presidents to be willfully malignant assholes on the global stage. Every single president since then, from Eisenhower and Kennedy to Obama and Trump, has been doing their darnedest to keep this 80-year-old momentum going regardless of who or what gets in their way. I’m sure anyone from Central and South America, for starters, can tell you this.

    That's why you can't form any coherent political opinion if you don't concede to the FACT that "US is bad". And Destiny should shut it with his "the US is decent place despite its flaws"; it might be decent for you, but I don't think it is for people in the middle east and elsewhere, unless, of course, you take what's good for you as what's morally good, in which case, *****
