I finally picked one up today, it’s terrifying, I feel like it can turn my house inside out. Flashlight feature is pretty bright, I can see myself using that daily.
This drill is a beast I broke a lug free on my sister's little car in the first gear after clutching out a few times I've also mixed mortar in 3 use it every day at work. Great drill only time I don't grab the 996 is when I need a compact.
Love for you to do more reviews brother, never stop liking tools and enjoying them. Keep doing what you're doing, ignore these negative idiot's that talk crap. 🙂👍

Is it too much for screw driving ?
Just got this drill as well. It's a beast for sure. I don't have those massive speedbor bits to test this, but i wonder if using the hammer setting would give you any extra torque/power to keep it from bogging down? Also, would be interesting to compare it's performance with the DCD777. And the DCF887, while you're at it!
That's not exactly how hammer drilling works. All the hammer drill mode does is add a hammering action towards the material, chiseling as it rotates and provides faster concrete drilling because it's literally breaking the concrete into dust as it drills into it. It doesn't increase torque/power in any way and is not meant for anything other than masonry drilling. In other words it does nothing for drilling into wood.
As far as comparing to the others you mentioned, no need to since the the DCD777 is a compact drill. The DCD996 is a high torque drill and naturally high torque drills have way more huevos than compact drills. As far as the DCF887 is concerned, that's an impact driver and as such drills always outperform impact drivers in terms of drilling and driving speed. The only advantage impacts have over drills are that they have more torque, although this extra torque is peak torque which helps drive larger screws like lags whereas drills couldn't. But if I get my hands on either of them, you bet a review will come afterwards :)
I had mine on torque setting 1 and speed 1 and it didnt start at first. Does yours do that? Could you demenstrate it in a video please? You had it on torque 1 and speed 3
On the 996 hammer drill setting ups rpm to 3200 so it is a bit faster
If using XR 5.0ah batery, will its performance reduce?

How would this drill , cope with the power planter 524 tool bit ? I know 18v does great with the 312 or 324 but hoped it could hack the 5" one , when using in tough clay soil ?

Why did the drill struggle on setting 3 in the wood when on setting 1 and 2 it drilled a hole easy but on setting 3 it kept stopping also is the setting 1 and 2 the same speed as the DeWalt did 796
a drills lowest setting is high torque but low speed, a drills highest setting is high speed but low torque so that's why it will struggle more with high speed. Most drills have 2 speeds but since this has three speeds, the middle speed is an in between in terms of speed and torque, more torque than speed 3 and more speed than speed 1.
I'd say speed 1 and 3 on this drill are probably the same or similar to the DCD796, remember this has three vs the other has two.
