Wow - great job. Among the best examples of your work. Your enthusiasm and confidence made it enjoyable from start to finish. I absolutely agree about loving the desert. If you ever get the chance, take U.S. 50 east across Nevada. You won't be disappointed.
That was a great road trip Mark! Many many thanks to you for the time and effort you spent putting each day of your journey into a vlog so we could enjoy seeing what you saw and hearing your thoughts on what you saw and did on your adventures. Glad your feeling better and I'm looking forward to more adventures.
Great road trip and thanks for sharing . The best motel I stayed in was in Cotulla , Texas , I was like an old motor coach motel with the little single car garage but without a garage door . Something like you would see on Route 66 . When the road master dropped my off I thought if this was a dump or what . I was totally surprised , the stucco buildings were super nice and well equipped with the most comfortable bed I ever slept in at a motel or hotel . Now this motel was along the old highway and I had to walk a half mile to the cafe and the food was awesome . A bunch of old railroaders was always there and very friendly . You spoke of a lot of trains running , the last week I worked was east of North Platte , Nebraska in March of 1990 and I was injured the 7th while unloading welded rail . That week and the proceeding week the average number of trains running was 165 in a 24 hour period . It was double track and while we had the one mainline line unloading rail and they would stack ten trains going east and west . They would run ten trains in a group one way and then ten the other way . This went on all day and it was 34 degrees and raining the week before I was injured . Our crew on the last day was 85 times out and said they would get called on their rest . Bailey yard in North Platte is a must see as it's the largest rail yard in the world and it's considered as far as the railroad goes on Eastern Standard Time to the East and Mountain Standard Time West of North Platte . . The yard is run as two different railroads as to east bound and west bound trains . I was able to fly over it and it's huge and as you know the railroad runs 24/7/365 days a year and it's busy around the clock . Two big hump yards that stay very busy . Coal traffic back then was insane with coal trains come and going to the Powder River Basin and several other open pit coal mines . If visiting consider the winter weather and Snow . Your MPG was great considering the elevations . You got to see a lot of beautiful country and most important you got to spend time with your daughter , Priceless . Thank you very much for sharing your adventues and glad you are feeling better and made it home safe . Good night from central Arkansas .
Mark: again, thanks for a fine presentation., Brings back a lot of memories of my own. Glad you did all the details of all the 'stuff to see out there. I will keep tuned in on your 'shows.
Great trip and a great review of traffic and places to stay as well :) I catch a few other railfans channels and you are correct. Some of the best railroading is out in Tehachapi and the surrounding area. Consistently big trains with lots of horsepower. Add in the unfortunate derailments and you have a nice RR world to explore.
Mark! Maby I can't say thank you enough for your time, your content is always entrusting and keeps my simple mind full. Your channel is not trying to sell me anything just producing good entrainment for the topic at hand. Keep'em com'en Paul
I too was driving truck 40+ years ago when CHP was constantly stopping trucks for speeding. I got stopped a lot for silage spillage. Currently, most trucks on 99 are driving around 62 mph and not getting bothered. I do see some truckers up around 70 but I wouldn't want to be them if they get stopped. I enjoyed your travelogue. Walnut Canyon is a pretty cool place. Too bad the MOW crew knocked off and you didn't get to film them; I could watch equipment operators all day long. Looking forward to your other trip videos. Glad you are feeling much better.
Thanks for sharing your trip, sounds like you had a really good time. According to Progressive RR article, last week BNSF had over 40 trains sitting in sidings because they didn't have the man power to crew them, NS had over 20. That would have been really cool to see those semaphores still in use!
Outstanding .. trip and content .. all your points agree with you I've met allot cool people every were but will say from truckers point . West Coast drivers take care of each other better than west coast .. food well depends on taste example bakery forget location but they had best bakery great breakfast in small diner .
Great summary Mark. Glad you had good weather for it. Very good friendly people are everywhere, but the buttheads seem to rise to the surface. Dual exhaust amped up diesel pickups are the worst with there coal smoke and burning tires, but they are headed for really expensive repairs. I will send you an email about another place to visit around the many areas of northern Colorado and especially Cheyenne to Laramie, WY. not like the traffic you saw on the old Santa Fe Transcon but still a great busy UP railroad over Sherman Hill, three mainlines, two together and one on the Harriman route through a now abandoned town of that name.
Awesome video! Too bad you didn't make it to the Ozarks to see our drivers. You have Bro trucks and we have Hillbilly trucks. But they probably drive about the same.
Missouri repealed the law her but ONLY if your over 21 & have insurance. Trucks are to do 60 here in MO, but trucks aren't pulled over for speed, the "BRO Trucks" come to southeast MO! The bull testicles are to be illeagle here in MO, but you still see them from time to time. Loud exhaust yeah.... I have a guy below me does this from time to time. Next time your out my way let me know

I second that motion....!!!!
Love the Three Stooges poster in background. My heroes!
Hello Mark. Nice vlogs ! Back in the 90s I walked thru the Tehachapi loop tunnel in between trains . What a scenic area!!

My Stepdad lives in the Ozarks (Ava, Mo.). I've seen the 'billy trucks but I didn't mind the drivers back there. Thanks for checking it out!
@@MarkClayMcGowan Ava is about 60 miles east of me. Got a coworker from that area.
Sometime try a locally operated and owned Bed & Breakfast. Check the opinions of prior guests.
I don't do B&Bs. Just one of my many quirks!
@@MarkClayMcGowan Ah ha! Just as I thought. Another curmudgeon, and few of us left at that

Bro trucks? Oklahoma & Texas.
