I'm in Sacramento looking at retirement in Brookings, leaving the politics behind, so I can fish and have cocktails peacefully. How do you like it so far?
I'm looking to retire in Brookings is there predators that I need to be worried about I found a piece of property on top of a hill/ Mountain close to the beach
I still keep a place in Sunnyvale, CA but, currently live in a suburb outside Spokane (Liberty Lake) My Mrs and I are retired and were thinking of moving closer to Cali and Family. I see some listings of homes but, nothing in a newer style home. Is that generally whats available in Brookings? Also too , I would need to be somewhat close to a Hospital/ Medical facility. any info is appreciated
In the Brookings Harbor area you can grow lemons, limes, many varieties of bananas and over 50 varieties of Palm trees and Palm bushes Outside year round. It’s climate is truly unique to the Pacific Northwest. It truly is Oregon’s banana belt. The very Southern Oregon Coast is in zone #9 averaging 10 to 15 degrees warmer than the rest of the Oregon Coast. Also the unique condition called the Chetco effect (a condition causing a warm down slope wind) keeps Brookings climate milder on most days than the rest of the Pacific Northwest Coast.
Yes, it’s generally safe here. We do see some homeless and drifters especially in the downtown area and in Harbor (the southern unincorporated area of Brookings) but the residential neighborhoods are safe. We do get the occasional bears wandering into town but they are only a threat to our trash cans 😂

@@LivingOnTheOregonCoastWe have a couple of fast food places Ray’s is gone, and the best Fred Meyer’s I’ve ever been to in Oregon came in. ( two stories putting the clothes upstairs is the reason) I traveled over 1,000,000 miles all over the United States for business and 25 years. People who retire don't do it to "spend their last days" somewhere. We aren't about to keel over. Retirees often have 30+ years to enjoy life and often good health. They want to choose a nice place where they can relax, enjoy life, and to use as a home base for travel. Retired does not equal "old."
