- Welcome back to a new video this time we went to Germany. on a one day trip we went to the famous Hürtgen Forest where we were curious to see if there are any traces of the war still visible in the ground. with searching with our metal detectors we soon ended up with a successful day!
The Battle of Hürtgen Forest (German: Schlacht im Hürtgenwald) was a series of battles fought from 19 September to 16 December 1944, between American and German forces on the Western Front during World War II, in the Hürtgen Forest, a 140 km2 area about 5 km east of the Belgian-German border. It was the longest battle on German ground during World War II and is the longest single battle the U.S. Army has ever fought.

One thing we'd like to address, In the Hürtgen Forest it is forbidden to search with the metal detector, if you do it is your own risk to get caught. We have searched a piece of private forest of an acquaintance of ours in addition, we also have a permit, we do not want to encourage anyone to just go and search in places where it is not allowed if you do so, the risks of being caught are high. All holes dug are also back to their original state and no nature is further damaged after our visit!

The smallest finds often speak the loudest, personal items like toothbrushes, razors, pocket knives, etc...are the emotional things. I've been collecting militaria since I was 5, now JUST my uniform collection has reached 519 from 1747 to the mid 1980s, german pocket bibles, pay books, hand drawn maps, personal diaries, mail, etc... every military post I was stationed always a pawns shop right there, I bought an original SS type ll camouflage smock with helmet cover and a U.S.M1910 t handle shovel at a yard sale, the lady sold the smock for 5.00 as an old hunting jacket and the cover as a rain cap, 2.00 for the shovel. I nearly passed out cold. Be safe in the digging, try to buy some small garden tools and snips, safer in digging than a shovel. Happy trails my friend
Thanks for your feedback, and indeed personal finds are the best to find. And what luck you had at the yard sale. cheers
@@AfterWarDiggers Good morning, you're very welcome indeed, keep up the great work, be safe around any ordnance please, that stuff is still deadly.
Awesome!
Actually none of them speak loud or quiet, they aren’t alive.
I’d love to metal detect in that forest.
Great finds and beautiful nature!
Thanks, indeed nature is always the most beautiful when we are out and about, aside from the finds of course x'D
The second part of the gas mask you found is called the canister.
Awesome finds man! You guys had a good day👌🏻
We certainly had a nice day, any search day is already nice when we find something interesting. And also because we are constantly in nature :D

Is the button with the US on it rare?
It is rare to find in the Hürtgen Forest, Normally you find them around airfields and camps of the Americans
Hello, is it worth it to go metal fishing in this forest?
Hi maybe there is something to by found, only there is almost no water there and I have never done it myself
@@AfterWarDiggers have you seen any lakes there or something smaller? Or is metal detecting better in that area?
Yes there are some rivers but my opinion is that you find more with a metal detector
@@AfterWarDiggers alright, thanks, do u have a good metal detector to buy?
I do not have a detector for sale but the Garret ace 400i is a very good one to start with, I started with this myself.
