Video Podcast #15 - Channel Update, The Obesity Code Review, Frequently Asked Questions
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 гру 2024
- Think of this video as an audio podcast (lots of me talking) with some video (mostly of me talking). I'll be discussing keto related topics that are in the news, discussing frequently asked questions from my viewers, and sometimes talking about some non-keto stuff (but probably cooking related).
In this episode, I give an update on channel notifications and the strange situation with comments, I talk about why my hands will look so beat up for the next few months, I review "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung, and I address a couple of frequently asked questions.

Steve, you could make money reading for audible books, you have a perfectly soothing sound.
Absolutely agree with you
I was thinking the same thing! Steve, you are great at Keto, but I think you missed your calling in broadcasting, voice over, etc. LOL!
Perfect voice for radio and voice over work
I have often thought this!
I know his voice is great
Jason Fung should be nominated for a nobel prize for his work in health, sugar and the truth about diabetes. Why the ADA doesn't accept his vast knowledge to cure diabetes. . . ?
Because unhealthy people spend more money to "get better" then healthy people. Really quite sad and almost diabolical - I think big food & pharma needs a huge lawsuit like what happened to tobacco industry.
@@karliesmama1268 I agree!
Because what he preaches can't be bottled up and sold in the pharmacy
The PHARMA-directed medical field is not even interested in curing obesity & diabetes! We spend 4 trillion on medical care in US, a lot of it is on conditions of low D like obesity & diabetes!
At the risk of sounding dramatic, this is one of those life changing types of books. A must read for anyone who struggles with their weight.
After my dr suggested keto for weight loss, I found out a good friend was able to conceive after 8 miscarriages. She suggested I buy the book or watch on youtube. Totally changed everything. Im a nurse and I've had to research everything and how it applies to insulin and IR. My personal health is my best and can help others. It's everything!
I bet it is. The Diabetes Code was for me.
Thank you so much Steve for all your great recipes. They really help me stay on track and keep my sweet tooth at bay. I too love the Obesity Code on audiobook. I've been on Keto and IF 18/6 for more than a year now. The other benefits I have received other than losing 40lbs are the following :
Headaches gone, no more knee or hip pain. No more dry skin or itchy scalp. No more heartburn or stomach aches. Dry eye has greatly improved and lastly I have much more energy! This lifestyle is so worth it!
There’s so many benefits besides the weight loss. It makes me happy every time I read a comment like this.
OMG When you said you are the only person eating Keto in your household and you are outnumbered - know you are not alone in this situation...... I feel your pain. LOL
I have listened to many of Dr. Fung's UA-cam broadcasts and totally agree with his way of thinking and practice what he teaches as best as I can! I enjoy listening to him speak and return to his broadcasts to refresh my memory on things. It is a shame that "old school" doctors haven't figured this out and/or don't want to. It is really discouraging to go to your doctor, only to have him tell you that Keto is BS and to get off of Keto and return to the "old school" way of calories in/calories out which for all of my life has never worked long term. I was always hungry and regained the weight. And, finding a doctor knowledgable in the Keto lifestyle is difficult in many areas. I enjoy the Keto lifestyle and part of that is watching you discuss whatever you want to discuss or cook or educate us on. You're the best!😊
The "Old school" calories in/calories out mode is job security. If you heal your patients - who will pay your fees and take your pharmaceuticals?
I just let my dr see the results and don’t discuss my method. He doesn’t have a need to know as long as I am successful.
Dr Fung is a life saver. Literally.
These doc's better wake up... or get left behind in the land that time forgot... just sayin'🙄
That is great that you have your garden to look forward to! We are switching to Container Gardening this year and really look forward to it. My herbs all died during my US trip because they got neglected. Tomorrow in Merida, I am buying replacements. Thanks for this. Have had the Obesity Code for a while here. Love it! Thanks all around. Here is a little Grandma Pro Tip on Gardening. Just before you go outside, scratch a bar of soap with your fingernails and get some soap up under your nails. Your nails don't fill up as fast with dirt. Good Luck.
Good tip!
@@SeriousKeto My Grandma lived in Brooklyn NY from the time she came to the USA until she died, but, they had "Farmland" in Poughkeepsie, NY. She had serious gardens at both locations well into her 80's. That was her trick. Hope it works for you. Only trouble comes when you get really wet hands!!
Dr Fung also has a 6 part lecture series on UA-cam entitled "Aetiology of Obesity." I highly recommend it. I suspect much of what is in his books is reflected in this series, though I have not read the books, to be sure.
Keto side effects for me: These things have gone away: mild asthma, environmental allergies, insomnia, gum disease, high blood pressure. My type 2 diabetes is in remission. I don't like to say "cured", because if I went back to eating carbs, it would come back.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll need to check that out.
Spot on with Cortisol hypothesis. I made it until August, then in a month went up 5lbs ... no binging on carbs, no changes that would account for jump. Then of course scale jumping up causes even more Cortisol. So September I have decided just focus on each day & really trying to get better sleep or quality "down" time - walking, hot bath, or just me time. On my computer I have statement : "Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. Plan for tomorrow but live for today." Also, trying to not watch news all day either, talk about positive energy drain. Blessings & KETO-ON 🙏🤘👍
I know this video is older but just wanted to let you know I love your videos. I recently started watching because your video was suggested to me. In answering your question about quality of life, I can squat down and bend over without being out of breath. I used to hate bending over or squatting down because it was painful. Now it's not. I look forward to catching up on all of your videos. Thanks for the work you put into them!! I really appreciate it!!
That feeling of squatting down and not being in pain is amazing. So glad you’re feeling it too.
Steve I love to listen to you. Your voice is so soothing and I love your sense of humor. I will definitely keep listening to you.
I appreciate it. Thanks!
I totally agree with you. My husband is non-keto and brings a lot of "tentations" to our house. I've been on this lifestyle only for a year and have to admit that I've cheated often. But of all the methods I've tried throughout the years (and believe me, they've been many!!! 😂😂😂) this one together with IF are the best things that happened to me. It's hard, so some "help" from your "keto snacks" is more than welcome. You keep on doing what you're doing, you're doing it great. 👍👍👍 And thank you so much. 😊😊😊
You may also want to check out Dr Fung's "Complete Guide to Fasting" and "The Diabetes Code". Although there is some overlap in both books, they also add more to the information given in the "Obesity Code". I especially found the Complete Guide to Fasting helpful.
One of my absolute favourite podcasts EVER! Soooooo good !!! It is nice to watch someone with such a similar philosophy about how we are living this Keto life. I didn’t comment on any UA-cam channel for years because I thought I would get attacked and judged but now having invested so much time reading the research journals for myself I have more confidence to know that I’m on the right path for me. And cortisol/bad sleep = my worst enemies too 🤦🏼♀️
I am now in my 18th month of Keto. This is my lifestyle now. However, I do like a bit of sweet at the end of the meal. Having some Keto dessert helps. In my opinion, it keeps me on track and not tempted to "stray". I try to keep it simple, Zevia Root Beer Float with home made whipped cream. But, I do keep some pre-packaged items on hand. Besides weight loss, these are the biggest changes: my mood has improved, I sleep much better, my eczema breakouts are gone, no more acid reflux, and I my energy level is through the roof. Also, my ADHD has greatly improved. (I don't mean that sarcastically - I am diagnosed with ADHD).
To answer your question about "what has Keto done to better your quality of life"... I'm 42, barely 5'1" and since March, gained almost 30lbs due to neglect!! I've done keto a few times since 2018 and had great results, lowest was 129! Personal adult best. But then jumped back into the bad eating habits. Not ready for the "lifestyle", I guess. Well, my legs were sore/swollen every late afternoon till bed time. I started having numbness in them while standing/walking, looked 8 months pregnant and just felt gross in general. I finally said F* it! I'm doing something about it. Since 10/26 I've successfully lost 20 lbs so far, not gaining during the holidays, surprisingly. No more symptoms like before and feel great! Still have at least 25 more to go, but I'll get there. I'm so happy to have come across your channel (do not recall really sure how??). You've inspired me to keep going (while keeping me company in my one person.... me, I'm the one person, lol.... room at work). Love your content and look forward to so much more! Thanks 😊
Great progress! You got this!
Out numbered , you got it so right. When everyone else is having a treat it’s nice to have your own treat. 👍
Yes!!! The little treats are a must have. When someone offers me a cookie... what a joke. I’ll want the WHOLE BAG!
I recommend The Obesity Code book to everyone. It explains everything. It really is a life changing book.
The Obesity Code is probably the single best book I've read on the subject of obesity, how it happens, and how to treat it. Phenomenal.
You are so funny - what a great sense of humor. I needed the laughs. It is a joy to get keto information and to learn, and then be able to laugh at the next comment. Going back and watching all your podcast format videos now :-). Loved the - Skip Ad - teashirt from the video before this I just watched.
OMG - also - YES - for emergency craving - break glass. I cook for a non-keto person. I need the Keto snaks, stevia deserts, fat bombs, etc to save me from diving off the deep end into Sugar Heaven. I too am experiencing trouble sleeping, more stress, higher cortisol - guess I need to get the book. Thank you for all you do for us!
Way I see it as for the keto snacks... you are making a better "bad" choice. Yes it may not be perfect, but isnt it better than eating the "real" cookies/candy bars? So in the grand picture you are still doing better and working your way to a better you. If you dont want them then dont eat them, but those of us who do... let us eat them and appreciate that we are making a better choice towards a better us.
Way I see it, why would you spend any time at all worrying about what someone else thinks of your food choices?
I feel the same about "dirty" Keto. At least I've cut out sugar!
The Obesity Code is the ONLY book a person needs to have to understand the working of the body and the relationship to food. I have read SO many health books over the last ten years and I got more information out of the book more than any other. I have listened to it on Audible probably 10+ times. I listen to it and it gives me a mental boost/motivation to straighten up my food. I really enjoyed The Longevity Solution also, but it is not as detailed info as The Obesity Code.
I'm also getting tired of the self-isolation, but I keep reminding myself that if me staying at home means that I'll not be contributing to the spread of the virus, and potentially someone dying from it, it's worth it. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home - shouldn't let this opportunity go to waste.
One thing that I noticed shortly after starting keto is that I wasn't sweating nearly as much. Made my life much more enjoyable, because I really dislike sweating and hot weather. I can finally enjoy summers.
The sweating thing has been huge for me. I used to sweat just unloading the dishwasher. 😄
From one Fungster to another, I appreciate you!
Just finished reading The Obesity Code. Thanks for the recommendation. It all makes sense now. I’ve been toying with this for several months but now I’m ready to go. Going to go back through all your old videos to help me get started. Only have about 15 lbs to lose but determined to do it. Thanks for all your great info.
You read faster than me. 😄
Serious Keto I’m in California and we’re still on house arrest. Nothing else to do but read. Lol.
Regarding snacks, I NEED Quest chips or I will eat something I shouldn't when a snack attack hits. I don't want to lean on keto sweet snacks so prefer to make my own, single serve desserts. Thanks for not being a shill for Perfect Keto...I see quite a few others going that route so I appreciate you taking a more moderate approach.
"Keto" sweet snacks tend to include sweeteners I want to avoid, namely Maltitol and Xylitol. Both give a blood sugar spike and the latter is not safe for furry friends. Much safer to make thwm with ingredients I control.
Are Quest chips sweet or salty? If they crave them because they are salty, you might be low on sodium. Instead of eating salty chips, just eat a little salt. That's what instantly stops me from craving salty chips.
If you are concerned about eating salt, read the book "The Salt Fix" by Dr. James DiNicolantonio, PharmD.
I just put it on hold from my public library. I'm looking forward to reading it! I've been keto for 18 months and have experienced amazing health benefits, and I'm always interested in learning more. Thanks for the recommendation!
Just bought "the Obesity Code" on the strength of your recommendation. You weren't wrong. Thanks again.
First of all, love you! Your voice is so soothing, you are sharing your experiences with us and your personal journey. People need to remember that. I have tried almost every way to lose weight, spend thousands of dollars and nothing really worked. One night out of desperation i discovered Keto, wow! What a life saver for me. I had given up, was sooooooo unhealthy, at the risk of losing everything. I am now down over 90 lbs and in such a short time and i do not want to stop. I have never eaten so well, amazing Keto recipies out there, you just have to be willing to make them. This is my way of life forever, it is now totally natural for me to eat this way, and yes i do allow myself to have treats now and then or this would not work for me otherwise it would be like a prison. Keto is a personal journey for each and everyone of us. I Love your channel, love how you share with us and i always feel very uplifted after watching you. And Covid, it is horrible, i do think we will appreciate certain things a lot more like visiting friends and family and being able to hug them, stay safe everyone!
Thank you for the kind words and congrats on your transformation.
@@SeriousKeto Thank you very much, can't wait to watch your next vid :)
I really enjoyed your common sense explanation to the way you approach keto as a life style.
Dr. Fung pronounced words the way Canadians do. You both are right!
Love Dr. Fung. I purchased the book shortly after it was released, and made it through almost three quarters. It's on my nightstand...I'll have to look at chapters 19 & 20. Thanks for that suggestion. Perhaps the difference in pronunciation comes from Canada. That's where Dr. Fung is from. Of course, I'm merely guessing. Another great video, Steve. Thank you so much.
I just recently became aware of your channel, so I don't know what u do for a living, but hopefully you're in radio, because your voice is made for it!📻🎙 I literally agree with everything you said/ mentioned in this vlog! That never happens lol👍 I'm a new subscriber as of today, and look forward to checking in on your channel often. Thank you for the book review, I admire Dr.Jason Fung's work as well. Keep doing what you're doing, because it's working for YOU😁
Glad to have you here and thank you for the kind words. I don't do any sort of voice work professionally, aside from what I'm doing here on UA-cam.
@@SeriousKeto You're kidding? Well, in my opinion you should find an opportunity to use your golden voice in radio, or doing voice overs! Maybe look to start a radio program on Keto context, basically doing your vlog over the airwaves! It's an ever emerging trend! Customers could call in with their questions and/or testimonies! 😁
Thank you so much for recommending The Obesity Code! I have just started reading it and already am starting to understand my battles with obesity. You are doing such a great service to many of us and I thank you from the bottom of my heart 💜
the obesity code was a light bulb moment in my life total game changer so informative
I just downloaded The Obesity Code thanks to your review. I highly respect your opinion. Will also miss your regular videos when you’re out gardening, but enjoy the sun and warmth while you can. I look forward to your new recipes using what you grow.
A man of reason... Love your channel! Man, I am having sleeping issues this last month or two too.
If I crack the code on it, I’ll let you know.
I read The Obesity Code about 6 months ago, and I recommend it to everyone I know who is trying to lose weight. After I read it is when I decided to try intermittent fasting, and it has helped me so much with losing weight and controlling hunger. I too have to have the Keto sweet snacks around. No one else in my life is following the Keto lifestyle, and it helps to have my own sweet treat once in a while. Great podcast Steve.
I hear you about the non-keto people/family. My cabinets hold, mostly foods I can't eat. 😒 So I too, need the fat bombs and keto deserts handy. I have enjoyed making keto recipes, but it is hard to do on a budget and often I have caved to the pressure with cheap carbs stuff. I now decided to track total vs. net carbs on my tracker. Thanks for the book review.
Great podcast! I have The Obesity Code but haven't finished it & now I think I'll try to get thru it. I think Dr. Fung is excellent at explaining the whole obesity problem. As for things I've noticed since starting keto last August besides the obvious are: I hadn't been able to sleep well, especially trying to sleep on my left side because my hip hurt SO bad I had a sharp, intense pain that ran down to my foot... that doesn't happen anymore. The other interesting thing is I had this weird rash across the top of my back/ shoulders that would get bumpy, red & itchy... it's completely gone!
Keep up the good work, my hubby & I really enjoy your channel!
My random wedding band observation is in line with yours, but really odd to me. I am still significantly heavier than I was when I got married, but after just losing 10% of my weight my ring almost falls off. I attribute it to the carb-water weight effect and that I must store lots of water in my digits. Planter fasciitis is gone too which is huge in helping me move more.
Finally you are not alone in being keto in a house of carbs, and I completley understand that a box of Perfect Keto bars in the pantry for those random days is a more realistic choice than either to forbid everything or go off randomly. It sees you through the snacky times gor sure.
Keep it slighty dirty, it is appreciated.
I agree, Steve, I loved the book. The Diabetes Code is exceptional too, and I'm not diabetic! It's a game changer, for sure!
I'm curious how much overlap there is between Dr. Fung's various books. I'll probably read one of the fasting books next, as I felt that got pretty short treatment in Obesity Code.
And I agree with the mispronunciations in the Audible version of the book. If you get The Diabetes Code through Audible, Dr Fung reads it - much, much better!
@@SeriousKeto Yes, there was some overlap. To be honest, I read them both last year so it's time for me to review them again!
I enjoyed your Obesity Code review. Agree with your points and I see some peeps are saying they will pick it up. :) I know you said that you don't like book recommendations, but Dr Fung's book the Diabetes Code is, to me, like a handbook about Metabolic Syndrome and if I had to give people just ONE of the two books, I'd actually give them the Diabetes Code...especially if they do not have diabetes. I came away thinking that it should be required reading in high school health classes. The chapter headings certainly imply that the book is very specific about diabetes, but in fact, the book covers all the major illnesses that are caused by Metabolic Syndrome: High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Liver Disease and more.
Good info. Thanks!
Dr. Fung is brilliant, and I have 3 of his books. I first saw him on UA-cam & was hooked.
Just ordered the paper back version since it seems like I might want to highlight things and be able to find section quickly. Thanks for the recommend.
I haven't looked up the pronunciation of those words, but I agree with you! Thanks for all you do for us on this channel!
Have the Obesity Code and read it a while ago definitely going to have to bring it back out. Jason Fung very intelligent nephrologist. And you hit the nail on the head with covid15 I agree it is more related to stress, sleep and anxiety than eating habits. Oh and all those "word pronunciations" you mention; yup you said them correctly! It could not have been a Canadian doing the audio! For me joint pain has been my big win with Keto. The minute I eat carbs that I shouldn't; immediate joint pain.
Dr. Jason Fung is spot on with diabetes and what it does to your body. Thanks Steve💖
Thank you so much first for being so honest with us, second tend your garden sweetie it helps with the stress it's my saving grace getting my hands in the soil third keeping it so real.
I SO agree with your opinion on the Obesity Code! Great book; I will have to revisit it. I have reread the last few chapters several times. Hang tough! Working in your yard will help work through some of that stress. Good luck to you and yours.
As far as improvements due to keto - the pain I was experiencing in my extremities has diminished greatly! Especially in my feet - and there was no apparent reason, just lots of pain. It's just about gone! What a relief!
The documentary: The Magic Pill and listening to Nina Teicholz, on UA-cam, talk about her book The Big Fat Surprise, and all the research she did opened my eyes, and made me wake up. What made me start though, was the research about the effects of carbs and insulin resistance on the brain, and its correlation to Alzheimer's. I was primary caregiver for my mom (she died in January) who suffered from the disease, and I wanted to learn how to avoid getting it... that made me really choose keto! After that I found Jason Fung and learned more, but I never read his book. You have catalyzed my desire to change that, so it's in my Amazon cart now, along with his more recent book on fasting. So, thank you!
Thank you also for your recipes for snacks, crackers, fat bombs, and the like. Now, when I have people over for dinner, they get a 100% keto experience, and I no longer waste money on non- keto foods to appease non- keto friends!
I , and thousands of others, appreciate you beyond measure!
Thank you. I enjoyed Magic Pill as well. I still need to watch "Fat Fiction".
I agree with how stress and cortisol make it harder to adhere to a way of eating. Being a mom and grandma, there’s always stress in my life. The one thing that has totally helped me deal with it is RESPeRATE (not cheap 😏) it’s easy and I’m more calm and not worrying as much. Also Dr. Pam Popper really put things in perspective for me during the shutdown 😊
Just bought the paperback. Thanks for the review
This was Fabulous!! You made great points. I will check out book, thanks
I may have said this before, but my fibromyalgia is under control for the 1st time in 10 yrs! I love keto.
Steve been watching you for a while on and off ,so when I decided to take my weight seriously and do something I went to my doctor and talked about different diets
he is the one who gave me the name of the book Obesity code and from there I decided to become a keto guy had family tell me how bad it is blah blah blah
So thirty pounds lighter( the nay says have gained weight) I really have enjoyed being on keto the book really showed me the facts on food and your body which made me look at things differently
great shows keep up the good work
Thanks, Steve....I have continued to lose very slowly, however, my sleep has suffered. I keep telling myself that I need to meditate, I will make another effort to meditate.
Like exercise, it's one of those things you need to MAKE time for. That can be hard for me and it's an easy habit to slip out of.
I have gained so much insight and knowledge from Dr Jason Fung, so I will undoubtedly buy his book just for reference at my fingertips.
Thanks for the book recommendation! I just finished it and it was very insightful. I've just started "The Complete Guide To Fasting" by Dr. Fung.
I'd be curious to know which is better "Complete Guide to Fasting" or "Life in the Fasting Lane".
Thanks for sharing Steve!😀👍🙏☮🌞🎶
I love the keto snacks and desserts!! If it weren’t for these things, I’m with Steve...it would feel like a diet!!
Always look forward to your videos! Thanks!
Hi from Scotland 🏴. Liked and new subscriber. I own the hard copy and audible versions of The Obesity Code. It truly is biblical in proportions. I would also recommend the work of Gary Taubes in particular Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It. Also very well balanced and researched. Both dispel the CICO myth in it’s entirety. Thanks, all the very best to you. P.S. I follow Carnivore Lifestyle and way of eating.
I like Gary Taubes. He has a new book coming out, "The Case for Keto", that I'm looking forward to: amzn.to/3eD8Azj
Loved Dr. Fung’s book. I too find this new world stressful, but I know it’s not forever, do my part as best I can. Oddly one benefit of keto is how undesirable I’ve become to mosquitoes, it’s bug season here in northern Ontario and while mosquitoes will land on me, they rarely bite 😄❤️👍
I'll have to pay more attention to that this year, because now that you mention it, I don't recall getting bitten much last summer.
Thank you so much for this booktip. I listend to it here on youtube within 2 days. I love it !
Glad you liked it.
That's a great book. I found him through his blog posts on his website. Thought there'd be a few and I'd be done. It took me DAYS to finish reading what I wanted to.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. They were more helpful than you can ever imagine. Keto on.
Thanks for letting me know about the narration, I'm one of those people that really get annoyed to the point of returning a book because of narration on Audible. Love your content. I had to chuckle about the hand's thing as I too am a no glove kind of gal.
Great video again! I found the ventriloquist joke at the end REALLY funny! I'll definitely read Dr. Fung's (a fellow Canadian) book. It does sound really interesting.
Thanks for the advice on the book. I’ve been trying to do intermittent fasting as much as possible. I’ve definitely noticed a big difference. As a teacher, that first couple weeks of quarantine was nice but it got old fast. Trying to teach students virtually who aren’t “required” to do anything was very annoying, especially when they just passed them on. Looking back administrators regretted that. A lot of students are now suffering on ACT scores, etc. By the way, you are WAY too optimistic about the whole voice projection and understanding people better while wearing masks. I still have a few students who wear them and i constantly have to ask them to repeat what they are saying. Ventriloquist!?! You are hilarious!
My cortisol must be up too. Blood sugar levels are up about 20 points. I've been walking about 6 miles a day and that (I hope) is keeping my weight in check. I also take a shower before going to bed and I think that helps my sleep.
I just purchased the complete guide to IF with Jason and Jimmy. I saw the obesity code and thought I should start with the fasting one since I wanted something I could use to take immediate action rather than something that gives a lot of info (which I would totally love just not at the moment) so thanks for the review!
Wild. I just bought 3 Dr. Fung books last week. Great information from the doc on UA-cam alone. Thanks for giving us your thoughts 💗
No one has ever handed me a book and said read this. I just have a look that tells a person they would be wasting their time. But I’ll give it a shot. Thanks for the talk.
It is 38c with humidex today in northern Ontario Canada however next Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday the weather is going down to 6c at night so the tomatoes and peppers plants might die, so cover your garden this weekend if you live around here...
I agree with dr. Fung’s book and ideologies. My husband was a diabetic for 25 yrs and the last year he has been managing his diabetes with food only, no more medications for him... John was taking 15 pills a day to manage his diabetes and blood pressure, and he is not taking any right now... so anyways.... thank you for your videos Steve, have a great week.
Ugh the weather up north has been complete horrendous! Going to dip down to 1C this Saturday apparently...
I recently bought the book myself. I didn't want to risk the audiobook because the narrator can make or break it. It is an amazing and informative book. I'm only about 1/3 through it but looking forward to the rest. I agree that everyone should read it. With regards to the grey hair, I prefer to call them sparkles. 😂 That's why they catch the light.
His new book The Fasting Lane is also a great read.
I didn’t know he had a new book. Thanks for the heads up.
I started keto 2 years ago this June 4th after reading The Obesity Code! Now 136 lbs down and maintaining my goal weight for 10 months and hubby down 70 lbs and maintaining at his goal weight! We feel awesome! You are the real deal! I love your honesty and how you always look out for us, such as prices and straight on pros and cons on foods! By the way, I’ve never used electrolyte pills but bought them from your link yesterday. How many a day do you take? Your channel is the best Steve🥰👏👍💪💥🔥
1) Congrats to you and the hubby; 2) I take 2-3 capsules per day (usually 2 unless I've feeling muscle tightness); and 3) thank you for the kind words.
The Obesity Code is the book that started me on the keto/LCHF lifestyle. I agree with all your review, especially about the long journey to the last two chapters! I haven't heard the audible book but your pronunciations are correct.
My doctor had me read Obesity Code to start my Keto journey. I then watched a bunch of Dr. Fung's videos. Everything I heard made this highly skeptical gal give Keto & IF a chance. 75 pounds later, I'm a believer. 😁👍
I too wanted to know where your videos were and I am on ALL also.Love your videos so your right-weird.
I Love Handy 🖐 ! needed today! You made me smile! As always, I leave enlightened by your post. I will now go forth to read and study. Thank You ! Debra in California, Bah Bye !🖐🖐🖐
Our quarantine is lifted. I went out for lunch to a restaurant the other day. It sure felt good. Before that I was taking several walks every day around my condo neighborhood.
Definitely agree with you on the snacks. I've seen your videos on your journey to this point...from your potatoes to veggies to keto. I started IF (because of Fung) and then went to low carb then to keto. Now I'm back to a keto-low carb-IF combo. Like you, I didn't start out snacking and my diet was very "healthy." Once I reached my goal weight, I had to start adding calories, including fat bombs. I'm still 6-7 lbs below my goal weight. I do maybe one IF per week. I don't snack in-between meals...to keep the insulin from spiking. Eating is one of the biggest joys in life...a little keto snacking post meal isn't going to kill us. However, I do believe that until folks reset their metabolism, get close to their goal weight and become an efficient fat burner, they should avoid snacks. The weight loss period has a huge motivating effect. ps. After 25 years I can't wear my wedding band anymore...had to give it to my wife to put in the safe.
I mostly agree with you on the premise of only doing keto snacks once you've hit your stable and targeted weight. I kept fat bombs on had during my weight loss period more as a way to hit my fat macros than as a "snack" or "treat". I still don't have treats on a daily basis -- maybe a couple times a week when I need something to keep me away from the carbage that clogs up my pantry and fridge.
@@SeriousKeto Makes sense too for your family situation. My wife and one of my daughters went low carb/keto, so there has been less temptations. But when that daughter is home from college, she's always baking stuff...many from your channel. lol
Love the Pod Cast! I was over "the current situation" a month ago. We have stuff to do now! Summer is short in ND! Anyways, I have spent this whole time staying focused on my goals and working on reducing stress! Getting pretty good at the whole "not my problem" mentality. Just trying to stay focused on the things I can control and not let the other stuff get to me! I hit my 50lbs lost this morning! 😊 Being in a house where we are out numbered is hard, but I do have pretty decent self control, so my go to is cream cheese, with a little monk fruit sweetener and Lily's baking chips. I will wait for next week's pod cast, for my unexpected Keto success story. It's a good one, IMO. 😂 Have a great day, Steve!
Congrats on the 50# milestone! 👍
@@SeriousKeto Thank You! 😊🎉
Spot on, Steve, I relate exactly to the comment that you find yourself in a surreal world. I do to. I call it an alternate universe. In my 59 years I could not imagine we would be wearing masks at the grocery store, and here we are. The covid 15, yes, I am up 9! Unfortunately my resolve has been weak and I have eaten some bad choices lately. I have Dr. Fung's book on kindle; need to read it next. Thanks for a great podcast.
The guilt… The guilt… For Father’s Day (for the last decade) I always buy my Dad a couple books, a CD or two and a couple different spice blends for him to use on his BBQ. And YES I follow up to see if he liked them… I’ll go give myself a time out! 🤣😂
I have the same problems, my daughter Loves to cook cookies and cake for her husband. So having something I can enjoy, helps me. Love your recipes that help with sacks.
Can well understand the "stay at home thing"
Yeap, stress will do that to a body! And being able to get out an exercise will help too.
I was just scrolling through old videos I haven’t watched yet and came upon this one. I was also looking for a book to read and just added this to my audible on your recommendation. Thanks for the review and tip on the PDFs! Im looking forward to reading this and might read Fung’s other books about cancer & diabetes. Did you do a review on these as well? I’ll search your videos to see if you did :)
I did a review on Life in the Fasting Lane. I didn’t love it.
Have to pick up this book! And don't worry grey hair is a crown of wisdom!
I just purchased on my Kindle. Thanks for the recommendation:)
I like your T-shirt! I have a great answer for your final question...can’t wait!
I am interested in the cortisol connection to weight loss. I have major stress and horrible sleep. I think I’ll get Jason Fung’s book.
Fung's book only briefly touches on the cortisol connection in the appendix. He literally spends one page on suggestions for better sleep. I'd love to find a more comprehensive guide on cortisol (ideally written with Dr. Fung's style).
I love this book...I fist got from the library. I was so good that I got it through audible too. The new book its even easier to understand and clarifies fasting for those don't understand. There is a handy schedule and recepies. The fasting lane. He wrote this with some of his coaches. I think everyone should read this book even if they don't want to loose weight.
I'd go so far to say that anyone who eats food should read "The Obesity Code". 😄
I have read and love The Diabetes Code, which I have read is very similar to The Obesity Code. If anyone is diabetic, I highly recommend The Diabetes Code, as there are such good explanations of how diabetes occurs over time and how easy it is to reverse it with a low carb diet. I think I may have to read The Obesity Code, too.
The wedding ring thing is happening to me too. Once it fell off on an international flight in the middle of the night. I’m still amazed I found it.
And just a few days ago, it fell off in my backyard and I spent an hour looking for it.
So yeah, probably should get it resized.
Other unexpected benefits:
- Snoring. Stopped completely. I mean I went from marriage-wrecking strife to hearing nothing about it for the past year. Now that may just be the weight loss and not keto per se but it’s a huge benefit.
- Benign muscle twitching of the eye, lip, etc. Used to happen every 2-3 days for hours on end and now will happen a few minutes every 2-3 months. Probably due to correcting electrolyte imbalance.
- Teeth cleaning: Dentist commented last time that I had the easiest cleaning I’ve ever had. Most prior to keto were pretty tough. Could be due to the D3/K2 combo from what I’ve read, or maybe just because I’m longer eating rice, sugar or other grains. (My kids’ dentist calls white rice public enemy #1)
- Deodorant: can go a couple weeks without applying any.
I’ve also noticed the snoring thing and lack of B.O.
Haha, when my wedding ring almost fell into the urinal, it was time to resize! The folks at the jeweler had alot of questions about how i did it. Wish i got kickbacks from keto like the pharma folks give the docs! I might be worth a fraction of Faucci's net worth, ha. Thanks for your vids.
UA-cam is just getting too full of itself, power crazy. Incidentally, i edited and added to this comment but it disappeared
I read obesity code a couple of years ago and have recommended it to so many of my medical colleagues. Very, very useful resource.
It's odd the comments that I've had disappear -- there's seem to be no rhyme or reason to it.
Everything you said about the weather is why I moved from Wisconsin to Arizona
Not sure I want to go that extreme. It would be nice to find some place where I don't go immediately from furnace to air conditioner and vice versa.
@@SeriousKeto when the wife says she is tired of the white stuff, you tend to move. I just found you, keep up the great job.
I'm glad to have you here. Keep your eyes peeled in my videos, you'll see plenty of Star Wars stuff. 🙂
Thanks for the welcome. Since you are a Star wars fan, I'll forgive you for being a Packers fan. 😝
