I drive E-buses with their 600v batteries here in Brisbane Aust. We've been instructed not to allow electric scooters and skateboards on buses because of the 'potential fire hazard'. Go figure.....
Probably due to the company thinking they have some control over the state of the batteries in the busses. They will have" professionals " looking after them
The public's batteries are all unknowns. You don't know the state of any of the age, maintenance, or charge state., or if they got bashed around.
I rode an E-bus couple years ago and they're a lot quieter and accelerate faster than gas powered busses. Don't see why e-scooters and skateboards cannot be allowed. The same issue can still happen in gas powered busses
So that would be exactly the same as not allowing petrol scooters on buses as well then.
@@user-jt4fy4od9r Never been mentioned in operational policy. And no passenger has ever tried to bring one on.
They did a study a short time ago.
Comparing EV bus fires and hours of operation with the equivalent ICE busses.
You might want to consider the results before getting too far away from the exit on the EV.
I don't remember the exact numbers (they're available).
There's millions and millions of hours of service with the ICEs without significant fire hazards.
With the EVs it's like 20% or something ridiculous. They've had several burn to the ground and by comparison there's not that many in operation.
There's now a problem with garbage trucks catching fire from discarded batteries in computers, phones, power tools, UPS units, etcetera when the compactor crunches them. They call them "Hot Loads"!
10 trucks have been destroyed in one part of Florida. There must be hundreds nationally.
gasoline is much safer
well it's not so much a problem with consumer electronics batteries as much as it is with incorrect disposal of them, isn't it?
@@Ofjkkmaybe we shouldn't make new phones every 6 months like they are made to just toss. 🤷
They have been covering up this threat for years. I remember when laptops were catching fire on airplanes. All of a sudden it seemed to magically stop.
There’s an additional concern: firefighters can drag an electric bike to an area where it can burn itself out over a few days. Much harder to do that with a 6,000 lb. EV.
But do you actually know how rare fires in EVs are? And did you realize that an ICE vehicle is 20 times more likely to catch fire and an EV?
@@Greatdane-qf8kd Most EV's are under 4,000 lbs and will be lighter in the future, excluding the monster Hummer which will die a quick death.

Last summer a car park at Luton airport went up in an inferno. Social media speculation, authoritative as ever, pinned it to an EV fire. Thanks social media for your contribution. The fire brigade later said it was a diesel car.
Now, an EV battery fire is bad news. It burns hot and is hard to extinguish. Indeed it can ignite again after several days. But burning isn’t a battery’s sole purpose in life. Whereas a combustion car carries a tankful of stuff whose one job is catching rapidly on fire. And it can do so when you don’t want it to.Electric car fires are very rare. They might stem from a fault or crash, but no official crash test ever caused one. EVs are extensively developed and subject to the discipline of recalls. Electric scooter fires are far more common since they’re mostly uncertified - because they’re illegal.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) reported 23 fires in 611,000 EVs during 2022, or 0.004 per cent in a year, which makes it 20 times less likely to happen than ICE car fires, which burned 3,400 times in 4.4 million cars, or 0.08 per cent. MSB has also recently proven a new way to extinguish battery fires fast. (Article from Topgear)
There's no way the grid will support 500_000 charging stations.
Yet
@hardsayings2400, the energy grid in California can't even support it's electrical demands even with fossil fuel consumption still active and the fact that California IMPORTS electricity! Two summers ago when there were ~800,00 to around 1,000,000 A-EV's on the road there, they put out a PSA, "Please don't charge your cars, the power grid is already overloaded due to the heatwave!!"🤣Now just consider what it'd be like if 100% of power generation was "solar" and what I call "windmills" AND California had ~40 MILLION A-EV's on the road rather than ~1,000,000 AND they still have to power all of the homes, businesses etc., which do not possess their own independent solar arrays. Imagine what it'd be like for ~330 MILLION+ across the entire country. The fact is, there less than 2.5 MILLION A-EV's on the roads in America yet there were ~292 MILLION vehicle registrations last year. Despite the activist's claims, A-EV's are NOT anywhere near "mainstream popularity"....

@@uwiwithanuzi Yep - and I've seen it at 3.89 recently. The road taxes are higher. We do have a special blend that the refineries charge a premium for. And sometimes with traffic it makes more sense to pay the higher price in the high-rent congested area you're in than spend the time to go to someplace more competitive in pricing.
Think of all the parking garages we have under apartment and office buildings. It's only a matter of time before one of these garages, and the building above it, is destroyed by fire. Most garages are built to survive a gasoline fire, but a burning lithium ion battery will burn right through the floor. Even if the fire starts in a non-electric car, once it spreads to an electric car, the fire will be almost impossible to extinguish. I wouldn't want to spend much time in a building with a garage in the basement if it allows electric cars.

Regarding Chinese batteries: I am a retired firefighter, and I can tell you something about Chinese batteries and power supplies. Not long before I retired (as Chief of my department) we fought a house fire on Christmas Day. After we extinguished the fire we routinely did a "Cause and Origin" investigation. Here is what we discovered.
The older couple who lived in the house were given, as a gift from one of their kids, one of those video picture frames that were popular at the time. Their kid who gave them the gift had pre-loaded it with pictures of the grand kids, so it was ready for hanging on the wall, which they did. The next day, Christmas Day, the homeowners had been invited to a Christmas Dinner at the facility where the wife worked. While they were gone, one of their neighbors smelled smoke and looked around, and noticed smoke coming out of the couples' house, and so called the Fire Department. We were able to confine the fire to the living room and kitchen, but the rest of the home was pretty much destroyed by smoke damage and damage to the wiring. The cause and origin of the fire was actually easy to determine, as the charring of the wall surface made a 'V' shape poining right to where the video picture frame had been hung, and extended upwards from there to the ceiling where it then spread.
The homeowner identified that location as where he had hung the video picture frame.
Through the nationwide fire reporting system, eventually a sufficient frequency of these thing causing fires had been compiled, such that all participating fire departments throughout the country were informed in a periodical bulletin that the NFPA put out.
Anyway, what was discovered was that the Chinese had been marketing portable video units, about the size of a tablet computer. These were popular with people who, say, were going on a road trip with their small children and could put a cartoon or kid-oriented CD in the thing and keep the kids occupied during a long drive. But keep in mind that the power supply and battery in the video unit, when used to play a video, would only be "on" for an hour or so. That was what the service of the electronics were designed for.
But they got the idea to dumb the units down, and to make them into video picture frames. But in that application they were now "on" for 24/7! The power supply would then overheat and start fires.
Now back to EVs:
The insidious thing about E-Bicycles is that people tend to charge them by bringing them inside the house to charge them. An electric car often is charged outside, where a fire due to some defect might not be as dangerous, as the car might be parked outside in the driveway during charging instead of inside the house.
Some garages where people charge cars are attached to the house.
In dense cities, most charging is done in underground car parks, or at least close enough to buildings to cause a lot of damage
So ironic that this older couple were probably delighted to scroll through pictures of their happy family, and within a day all their family memories had gone up in smoke.
This is good talking points .
Yep. Bought a new battery for the old 'Bird at Walmart last week. $74 out the door.

It became difficult to get rid if the old big heavy box television sets when they quit making them and everyone started buying flat screens. You couldnt give them away, had to pay some place to "recycle" them. I could see people having the same issue in a few years with their EVs
EV battery recycling is going to be a nightmare.
Lithium battery recycling is somehat complex because stage one involves ripping stuff apart while the cells are fully submerged in a special inert liquid to prevent the active ingredients catching on fire/exploding. Needless to say, work crews will becaome instantly aware if the process has somehow missed some vital step listed in their "safety" manuals.
At my job that handles junk cars we have entire sections dedicated to EVs 😅 not sure what to do with these things
The idiocy of "climate change" compounded by the idiocy of EVs.
@3:13 97% operational, please realize that is ridiculously low for something people will depend on. People will stranded in middle of nowhere 3% of the times the travel! Who likes a car that every 34th ride will break down due to not able to charge when you travel outside of city? Where distance to the next charger is too far on a empty battery.
Funny video. Some things in life are absurd. Thanks...
I think they built about 500,000 in my state. There are new ones every time I go anywhere.
U Rock, u put common sense in any issue with cars and practical economical things about cars and industries👍💰👍
THANK YOU SCOTTY, YOU ARE VERY APPRECIATED FOR ALL YOUR HONEST HELP🙏
5:09 There are only three manufacturers of car batteries. Buy from Wal-Mart, or Costco. Johnson Controls or Deka. I get 6 years out of batteries here in NY. Even boat batteries (starting and deep cycle). Exide stinks IMO.
Autozone sold me a bad ignition coil and it went bad after a week. I tried to take it back and they told me they don’t refund used parts. I will never order from them again.
What part of California? I'm in California, and there is plenty of gas stations. I'm curious 🤔
Well, Shell is also building gas stations. I don’t know how many and I don’t know the reason for shutting down 1000 stations. Maybe high crime areas where every other business is fleeing. Also, California has plenty of natural resources, including gas and refinery capacity, but Sacramento government chooses not to develop it. Just like our perpetual water crisis because 50% of the rainwater goes out to the ocean and isn’t stored properly. High gasoline prices, high water prices high blinking everything.
Go check out one of the Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. If it works half as good as a Lithium ion battery it is so light it wont matter. I thought the case was empty.
Anyone buy one yet
Batteries Plus has them for motorcycles and not as expensive as ion.
I want to retro fit a flat tracker with electric.
LiFePo4 cells have 40% less charge per pound then Li ion.
Great news that you're safe, Scotty. Cheers.
Guessing you didn't go for the DJT stock. lol
Don't forget, your electric tank gets smaller with every charge. Thus decreasing your range.
Not as much as they used to. Properly charged batteries are getting 250,000-500,000 miles.
@@sd70cal yeah, thats what they say, hehe.
@@sd70cal I'm NOT talking about total lifetime range, I'm talking about range on 1 charge. That constantly decreases with every charge.
@@aantonic That is what the owners are saying. If you concentrate on anti-EV news sources it's understandable you haven't heard them speak.
@@DecrepitBiden You are talking about older battery technology and poor charging practices. If you lose capacity with each charge like you are inferring, you would never get 250,000 - 500,000 miles of total range.
What part of California you went to where there were no gastations? They are everywhere, sometimes one on every corner at an intersection.
Always ⚡ voltage test your battery 🔋 and check the date of manufacturer ing before buying it 👍
Pretty sure people were saying the same thing when the gasoline car came out.... No gas stations, they catch on fire and breakdown. Why when you can have a horse! 😂
Electric cars were around then too. The better option prevailed. This is a stupid generation, so we have to do this all over again.
Nice take
U use your last two connected brain cells to come up with that?
I respect you. Could you please quote the information next time. I couldnt find a credible news. I am not supporting any side on EV vs GAS debate. But facts are must.
Skynews
Only goes to prove those bike and scooter companies aren’t greasing the palms of enough legislators in NY State.
These parts stores stock too many of the same batteries, every month that battery sits there it's passing on, garages only stock a half dozen for a reason. I worked for a distributor in the 80's when garages had pumps we filled, charged, then stamped the date with a hot iron when we delivered it to extend the shelf life. Look for the pressed numbers around the posts.
Scottie. Not really. It depends. Old GMs were bad. Teslas? Not so much. But gasoline cars can also fire up.
And hydrocarbon cars catch fire *much more often.*
They do but there are far more ICE cars on the road, so the % is skewed. ICE cars can be extinguished easily, EVs cannot plus they reignite even days later.
@@christianadechaeney1831 The % on the road does not skew the % catching fire. Percent means out of 100.
Interstate batteries have never failed me! I was in Alaska at 60 below zero, went through many battery's until I bought Interstate, will never buy anything else!
The copper scrappers are going to go crazy. They're already attacking these stations in other countries.
you're a smart guy and so are your subscribers. that being said, do gas car catches fire ?
Never ! 😊
Do strawmen catch fire?
This is what I've been saying about ICE vs. EV. Once they start getting rid of the gas stations you can't just "keep your F-150 forever".
And it doesn't have to be the government closing them down. Once gas stations are no longer profitable they will all go away fast.
Funny…. The same thing with electric cars. When they can’t sell them anymore because people won’t buy them, they will go away quickly forever!!🎉😂
They can run on propane as well with a kit.
Government will make that a crime punished by 20 years in prison
You'll still be able to buy $10 a gallon gas.
@@user-gz8st9fe8p No
Ridden in two electric cars so far.
They’re amazing with acceleration. Both were very expensive, a Rivian and Tesla Model unknown. Both owners are happy, so far. I wish them luck.
they will need alotof luck
Of course they are happy after spending their life's saving on one of those potential fireballs.
I drive Uber in Ontario Canada part time. Picked up a woman who had recently returned her Tesla. She said it left her stranded more times than she'd like to admit, the door handles freeze, loss of range in the cold, and she had enough when she needed a tow and the Tow driver showed up unable to tow it lol
Tesla req special tow truck and if you get a flat tire there's no spare, so heavy they can't be jacked up by normal equipment. Not sure why people feel the need to drive a California Camry, not a status symbol now that you see 5-10 a day.
@@bondgabebond4907 Do you even fact? The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) reported 23 fires in 611,000 EVs during 2022, or 0.004 per cent in a year, which makes it 20 times less likely to happen than ICE car fires, which burned 3,400 times in 4.4 million cars, or 0.08 per cent. MSB has also recently proven a new way to extinguish battery fires fast.
My mate just got rid of his plug in hybrid for a V8.
Because it was a pain in the arse to charge.
