    Thank you so much for making all these videos...I will be out at the burn this year with the DPW testing to see how long i can make it last. Hope to see you out there this year danger crew!

    @ jim-- I put the yurt up first and then pull out the tarp, keeps it cleaner than my dusty feet all over it during building. But only gently guy down the yurt I guess. Things we did right: set up the roof first. Taped the walls-to-risers on the ground. Pounded rebar before assembling the walls. Got distracted and drank wine off the tailgate. The only thing I think I'd change is that you had to cut more out of the door on playa-- hard to do moopless. LOVE THIS. Thank you for posting!

      @@redcouchguy how many windows do you recommend cutting?
      I was thinking about cutting long & narrow ones in the upper 2’ panels..?

    • @redcouchguy
      @redcouchguy  2 роки тому

      @@TheAhhleena I wouldn’t cut any windows and especially not in the upper section. It’ll significantly weaken the structure. I cut a hole for an AC. If you don’t have an AC option I’m. It sure the best way to get airflow.

      @redcouchguy hello I just came across your video. What kind/brand of AC unit do you use with this yurt style?

    How did you figure the panel cuts for the roof? are they just right and left triangles cut corner to corner?

  • @kingkurtzig
    @kingkurtzig 8 років тому +3

    Are these reusable? What happens when they are taken down, do you just rip the tape off and start again on another build?

    Is the total # of 8x4 panels used 15? 9 for base and 6 for top? Great job btw!

    Thanks for posting this, I'm looking at doing this for Burning Man this year. I have a question - it looks like 6 side at the beginning - but a 4 side at the end, is this an illusion (in my eyes) or are these 2 different yurts?

    • @redcouchguy
      @redcouchguy  6 років тому +2

      It has six sides (hex=six) but I see what you mean about the angle of the camera at the end. Good luck! They're awesome!

    Ha, as I watched this (watching hexayurt videos for this year's burn), I thought to myself, "That looks like Jim". Would you recommend against making the door any bigger? It looks like a pain in the arse to get in and out of. -"not bill"

    • @redcouchguy
      @redcouchguy  10 років тому +1

      Ha! :)
      I cut the door a bit bigger on the smaller panel after I assembled everything (just don't do it all the way to the edge.) I also used a 6' sheet of plywood with a hinge that i mounted the door pieces to. You can kind of see that here: facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151907387049680&set=t.507449679&type=3&theater

    Although it's not a deal-breaker, I certainly recommend putting down the tarp before moving the structure on top of it. That would be muuuuuuuch easier than the way I did it.

    not shown: the person we trapped in the yurt when we bring the roof cone over the top-- that's an important job. Two people inside is even better.

    Get a yourself a Kodiak canvas tent and save yourself a ton of work and time, and you wont need a truck to transport it either...

    • @TheFlowerofLifeCoach
      @TheFlowerofLifeCoach Рік тому

      Looked up that tent and it looks hard to keep dust out .. and no AC placement .. the hexa yurt seems like a top option for keeping it dark , cool and powered with a generator continuously .. I also like this one’s platinum iridescent color , I image one could make it pretty trippy and fun chill integrative place at the burn
