Over glorification of surviving and unfortunate situation being brought on by bad decisions is not always an example we want to set in our society, but punishing or pushing aside a person that has gone through that and has become exceptional and has surpassed mediocrity is not what we should encourage either. She worked hard, she fulfilled every requirement by her own merits, and didn’t fall back on just surviving but positively doing better and not letting it be an excuse, she should awarded.
I totally get the premise of this episode and glad Simone stated what she said at the end. I'm not a role model, I'm a survivor and this is aint what a high school girl wants or needs. Lately in the black community, we glorify single motherhood. Even as wild as TK was, he was not a father. He was admittedly sexually active but he had no babies. Townsend had a great show that was funny but had some great messages within the storylines
@Melissa Diamond 1. Black women, who are far too often portrayed as strong and independent, choose to have unprotected, and extremely often, non-marital sex with those black men. No one else makes that irresponsible choice for them 2. The welfare system has encouraged black women to have babies out of wedlock and raise them as single mothers, and without the father around, so they can get "free money" from the government. Because of this, the single mother rate in the black community is within the 70 percentile, and the nuclear family is mostly a foreign myth/concept in that community. 3. Black women make up the majority of women in America based on race, who get abortions. There is evidence that Planned Parenthood is rooted in racism which strongly implies that the organization is an institution of systematic genocide of blacks.
@Melissa Diamond The irony is that 51 percent of black men are childless and never married. The CDC states that black men are the MOST engaged and active fathers in their children's lives and 60 percent of black women who have multiple children have them by multiple men. While black women lead in single motherhood, they are closely ahead of Hispanic women followed by white women and Asian women. Tell me how many black women are praised for NOT being a single mother. Why does black excellence have to be either a criminal male who is now on the right track or a single mother who has a degree with a baby? Let's not act like it doesn't exist.
I remember this episode back when I was in high school. I used to think it was a little unrealistic because anyone that’s top of their class has a perfect GPA and high SAT scores , an also a minority is going to have multiple scholarship offers. The Irony is the valedictorian of my graduating class was pregnant and relieved a full ride from Yale.
Yes, she always played the best friend or some other supporting role. Even before she was on those shows, she played the main character's best friend on Nickelodeon's "The Secret World of Alex Mack." She's always had tons of talent, beauty, and industry connections (he mom and sister are Chip and Kim Fields), so it's always mystified me that she hasn't gotten bigger opportunities.
After watching a few episodes of this show i think its dope how alot of black celebrities that we know today got their start on this show or shows like this back then. Even the guess stars were dope.
She has soft curly hair the actrice is half Puerto Rican and half African American. Look her up. Her hair probably wasn't even relaxed maybe just a blow dry. (she still could've had heat damage that we can't see in the straightened stage)
@@shaybarcellyia6830 I literally stated she could've had heat damage! I always think its weird when people on UA-cam read half your comment. And then state part of it back to you. I discussed her texture because, that hair type could easily look like that with just a blow out.
Alexis Fields was a guess in almost all of the 90s black comedy shows. But how come she was never in a show as a main character? She is a good actress.
@@fgr617r9 Hi! Thank you so much for your comment. It really means a lot to me! It isn’t ideal but I’m working my hardest. If you were wondering , I am still in college and will be graduating next year with a healthy 3 year old.
I'm sorry but I would've taken that scholarship. Symone losing it is awful but school is expensive. I didn't have a kid, she did. Her parents were right. You do what's right for YOU
The parents came off as being hypocrites in this episode. They were all for their daughter standing up and doing the right thing as long as it didn’t cost her. The moment that their daughter told him that she would be the next recipient, and as soon as she said she was not going to take the scholarship, their entire tone and attitude change. Doing the right thing only when it is convenient and only when it doesn’t cost you anything it’s not really doing the right thing; it is just virtue signaling.
Let's say the roles were reversed and it was a white teen mom instead of the black teen mom who was chosen for the scholarship, I would not be surprised if the school board would take the full scholarship back from that white teen mom. If anything they would spin the story around and make it seem she was a hard working mother and exceptional role model and use the same talking points for the black teen mother depicted on the show. Granted this was a TV show and this was the storyline they were going with but it just makes you think.
That "association" had NO standards. They should have had a more thorough screening process before choosing a recipient if that were a true concern. Also, if Simone and Zharia were such good students, they should have more scholarship offers.
This The Same Reason Why We Know ROSA PARKS.... The Original Girl Wasnt Seen As The "RIGHT FIT" BCUZ SHE WAS PREGNANT N NOT MARRIED 🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Miss I miss the 90’s 😩😭 GOOD TIMES! 💯
How you're going to take a scholarship away from a single mother?! That's just out right cold!
Pono
That’s so unfortunate 😤 luckily times have changed to shine light on these situations instead of condemning such great ppl☺️
If she can balance schoolwork, a job and raising a kid, she deserves an award.
💯💯 she needs it more than some others do because of that. Also the fact that she still managed a baby PLUS excelling academically. Smh this world
@@podsmpsg1 Exactly 💯

@Aiyaluna Yourke Facts
Pay for Zaria's tuition? Robert is a professor at NYU, and I'm guessing he has tenure too. That means his children can attend school there for FREE!
She may not wanted to attend the school where her parents were teaching at. This is common on many students of teachers.
She Disney want to attend the school were her parents work. Most teens want to get as far away from home as possible to experience that freedom
This show is fictional
Alexis Fields was on all these shows (Moesha, Sister sister) as the bestie! She could have had her own potentially
