Did you ever try pottery? It's great for grounding and connecting with yourself. Creating something from a block of mud has something magical to it.

I hope this path, which sheds light on my 18-year journey that I started in the academy, will shed light on you too.

I've thrown on the wheel for 11 years and your observations are good on the reasons for your pots collapsing. I would add however that when you are looking at someone else's work that you want to emulate, determine if it's actually hand thrown or slip cast. Slip casting can give you a much thinner result than throwing so don't try to throw as thin as that. Secondly, if you determine that the pot is hand thrown, feel the walls all the way from the top to the base. Many many times you will see a hand thrown pot that looks impossibly thin but in reality it's just the lip or the opening edge that is very thin. So keep your walls thicker all the way to the top for stability while shaping, and then right before you take it off the wheel, thin the edge slightly to make the pot look thinner than it is. Keep in mind however that very thin edges will chip very easily with use. Florian Gadsby is an expert at this trick and admits it in many of his videos. Can't wait to see more of your videos, you have a lovely space to work in.

@@vzeimen thank you so much for this comment!!🌟 that‘s a good tip, I will pay attention to that.
I really thought that you can throw as thin as this with enough practice but considering decorative carving more and more, it would be useless to throw walls that are so thin👀😂
      I appreciate it🫶🏻🌸

Hey there, I am a clay baby too. I've only been throwing a little bit for a couple of months and I really enjoyed your video. I have the same problems with making my walls too thin. One day we won't do that anymore lol. Thanks for sharing. I love your studio, so clean and fresh. Mine is in a dirty old shed behind my barn but it works well for now.

It was really relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing the failed attempts as well! I'd quite like to try throwing one day. So far, I've only done hand building (I'm even a workshop instructor lmao) but I've never tried the wheel. One day maybe!

You can save your back a bit by sitting at your wheel for clean up! I put my water bucket on the wheel and clean everything right there while sitting !

I am new to pottery too. I purchased a wheel about 30 years ago. Without a kiln! I was lost, what to do with clay after it was used. So much u tube content has been wonderful. I've had a reawakening. I recently purchased a used sm kiln. I'm finding my way with glazing. & Chemicals. Thanks for your helpful tips. 👍
