Buick GS and Skylark guy here. There should be no insulation under the hood where you point out. The insulation was not applied to the areas where the ram air is located. It's a water trap and a bad idea. factory didn't do it. Under hood seal plates for the scoops are also missing, What's the VIN? It's badged as a base GS with a 350 not a GS455. Interesting car and as a 1970 Buick A body guy for three decades, I'd say this is an attractive price . Sounds a LOT like my 30 over 455 with the TA headers and cam did, I'm betting that's where those parts come from. That Edlebrock carb is almost certainly too small, stock was 795. The big Buicks don't like to be be carbed like you'd do a big Chevy, and with a cam swap and better scavenging with those headers the new buyer can go bigger almost for sure. The horn is a bitch on that wheel. I have stories...I had to custom make a relay contact to have mine work reliably. GS hood and grille, and the surrounding chrome are not easy to get. The headlight bezels are also very difficult item to get in nice shape with the chrome still good. They were pot metal and pitted badly, just life. The radiator core support top brace is an early 1970 style, and is plastic. They broke easily, Not easy to find, maybe this is a repop. The radiator overflow tank is also indicative of an early sequence car. The gauge lenses however are later, "regular production" units; early sequence had the pointed lenses that are a bitch regarding glare. The lack of the correct air cleaner means water is dumping straight into the engine bay; this car should feature the GS dual snorkel air cleaner with seals for the functional ram air scoops. It will work with the HEI, been there done that. Not a cheap or easy to find part these days, that aircleaner. Depressed park wipers under the hood cowl are sexy and was factory. Looks like factory windshield antenna. I spent about 70 grand making a car much like this so I'd say she's priced to sell, needs itty bitty stuff and is good to go.
I’m a BOP guy too and I bet if you were at a car show and saw and edlebrock carb under the hood you’d puke up a little bit in your mouth. Doing anything besides a qjet is a travesty and is sacrilegious.
This was a joke (because i almost wrote something similar - i was going to say "you should get that checked out")... back in the day, if someone said the green is growing on me.. what was a funny response would have been... ohhh like a fungus?? Bwahaha. So that is what was being insinuated by AI as a thing called "humor".
These are great 👍 cars, this is a beauty. As I said before they don't make these anymore. Someone will buy this fast. Another winner 🏆 for Maple motors!!
I own a 70 GSX. 71' block. LOVE GS Buicks!! I drive it like it was meant to be driven. Wife told our daughter "Dads just trying to meet the local cops!" cause I stand on it alot! Seems like a helluva deal for a fun ride.
@@GodseyKnives I dreamed and dreamed of a GS455 all through high school and on. I have always loved something a lil different. Good for you. Great cars.
My brother had a 1972 GS Stage 1 factory car in solid white and fully loaded, and would today be worth 75 to 100 thousand dollars. It was a beautiful car and was just shy of being a GSX! It being a stage 1was certainly a huge difference in power that most people will never experience, even though there are cars today that are certainly as fast as my brother's car, there are few that could even compete with it with the same technology of that time!
@@richardmorris7063 yes, actually they had 500 foot pounds of torque at only 2800 rpms. The highest factory torque of that era at that rpm. Another fun fact is that the 455 Buick engine only weighed 100 pounds more than a small block Chevrolet, and 150 pounds less than the big block Chevrolet weighs.
OMG, this is my dream American muscle car. I wish I already had the money for it. Thanks Nick for making these videos and therefore keeping our dreams alive and pushing us to attain these beautiful rides. Also, this video has my favorite song of yours. When is it coming out?
Hey Nick@Maplemotors, This is a good one! Its my 2nd Favorite next to the Olds 442 of course. Lots of nice rides this week. Wishing I could win the lotto and grab at least 1! that '67 Camaro looked real sweet too!...
The body looks pretty good, the owner had all the holes where the Skylark logos used to be, filled in and painted. He bought all the GS Logos, and GS Hood, BUT…the engine is missing a cylinder.. running on 6 or 7 cylinders instead of 8, the rear axle is one legged, aka no posi…and worst of all, the engine is leaking oil from both the front and rear main seal, and I believe it has the turbo 350 trans instead of the correct HD turbo 400 to match the big block engine. The rear gears are geared so high that the cart wont even launch in spite of having that 455 engine. It probably has 2.73 or 2.92 rear gearing. It needs 3.42 or 3.64 gearing and the torque converter cover is completely missing under the car.
What a pretty car! and man! You are absolutely right. Thats all carb issue. That motor runs great :)........awesome car man! Better then the olds you had with the electric cut outs. That was my fav
You've got a good sound Nick & this Buick as well. Right from the factory these motors probably had 9.5-1 compression in even the 350s.I love these ,the Monte Carlo & of course the Olds Cutty W30 package..What a time to b a young enthusiast..
That's what I was looking for when I was in the Navy in 73...the 70 that I found was Hershey's Chocolate Brown, 350/350 2bbl, single exhaust, not GS, but 1 step down. Like that Forest Green. Nice ride. ...if I tag the Pwrball, I'll call you.
In '83 when I was 20 I bought a triple brown GS with the 350 that had bucket seats with U handle floor shifter and console for $1000. It had a map light in the rear view mirror and speed warning buzzer you could set on the speedo. I made it buzz at 120. :) They only made 9948 350's for 70 which was less than the 455's but, like one of the other comments said, you don't see many of these. Same HP(315) and Torque(410) of a Chevy SS 396 of same year. I have never ever seen another GS 350 in person and never any 70 GS with bucket seats. Unfortunately I sold the car and it got donated to a church who probably crushed it(I hope not). Luckily though I now own a 69 GTO which although not as rare, still a beautiful car.
For those that don't know the ethanol in the fuel attracts moisture and that is not a good thing for carburetors.. I usually run a bottle of the Lucas ethanol remover. I went to school with Brian and he does really good work. He also does customization for dealers as well... That side road is nothing but a speed trap.
