Wonderful machine, I've had mine for 42 years and I changed the wires to the distributer about 35 years ago because every time I washed it it misfired the moment I put it into 1st gear. I've been everywhere on it, my most loved possession. Lovely video thank you. Best wishes. Gérard lacey in Ireland.
Got 3 xs1100 - great bikes
I bought my maroon one in 78 I still own it to this day and it's still a driver but my daily driver is an 02 FZ1
I had a 1980 XS11,
Blake turbo kit, valve springs and a oil cooler. Did power wheelies at 120mph. Put 50k miles on it and it was bullet proof.
I sold the bike and turbo kit separately after high octane gas went away.
I've got two.
78 E & 80 LG
Little criticism. Video was well informed ,just a bit too face pace. some more specs would be nice like competitors/ equivalent. Overall great video, good information, best of luck
Mine had the seat with the tall built in backrest. Wicked...
The XS1100 was from 1978 to 1981 then became the XJ1100 in 1982.
How about you go get one and lets go riding ?
One fact is 2 gear were a huge problem with these bikes.. I've owned two, and couldn't get them to go into 2 gear.. I would clearly advice people to stay away from them.
I've owned three XS1100 and never had a problem with the 2nd gear.
I bought mine with 11,000 miles on it and now have 103,000 miles on it and have never had a problem with 2nd gear.
Every time that you miss a gear you damage the shift drum, fork and engaging dogs. Common problem with all powerful bikes in the day. 1st to 2nd shift is often missed when attempting to drag race and some bikes don't do that quickly.
