True but some of that also has to do with the camera/photo quality as well. Cameras today are a lot more clearer and accurate than 50 years ago.

Why is there carriages instead of cars in Times Square in 1900?
There weren't many cars in 1900 they were only for extremely rich people and organizations, similar to something like a helicopter today.
Cars were still very rare until 1920 about and there were very little cars In 1900
