There is literally a link called the hero of time so why is time travel so big for a Zelda game
I don't get why he struggles so much with timelines lol.
1. The egg traveled from a future where hyrule was destroyed.
2. By returning, the egg has split the timeline, and now we are playing a NEW timeline, where we potentially stop Calamity ganon and save hyrule.
BOTW is timeline #1, this is timeline #2. The game could EITHER have us win and keep the new timeline, or we could lose and the timelines would converge.
I don't get why he finds it so confusing because he literally explains how timelines converge IN THIS VIDEO.
Here’s a good strat for Link. When you press B, you do a backflip. Hit b, then (while Link is still back flipping) hit ZR to use his bow. Glad I wasn't the only one. Like time travel has been around for sooooo long. It was the star mechanic in sooooooooo many fucking games it is a god damn staple of the franchise!
To explain the concept and problems with time travel: basically because the egg was created in the future, then sent to the past, technically it existed in the point in time it was sent to. Since it always existed, the problem that caused it to be created in the first place never happened. This creates a paradox where the egg changes what happens in current day, thus stopping the egg to never be created in the future. This is usually shown as a split in time, like pointcrow said, where there's one timeline where the egg is created and needed, and another where they had the egg from the start.
OR botw is the continuation AFTER Egg traveled in time and then a new timeline happened when Egg came to the past. I mean it happened in OOT.
Nop, that false, because the egg cannot be created in the future, it already exist before. We now that because it's skeika tech and Robbie and Purah has no reason to create it. When the egg travel back in time, their is actually 2 of them in the world, probably one in Zelda's room and the one we know. But, one theory could be that the "bad egg" we see in one of the cinematic is actually the original egg of this timeline corrupted by Ganon malice, also sent back in time with the guardian.
So glad I'm not the only person who was "meh" about the egg until the first time seeing it in-game and then immediately fell in love with it. Its little booping is just too cute.
I started the game under the assumption that this was a stable time loop; the egg goes back, but it turns out everything the egg does trying to change the past is already part of the past and Breath of the Wild happens anyway. (Spoiler: it doesn't.) We never see the egg in Link's memories because it just didn't happen to be around when Zelda was taking pictures. Any differences from what's shown in Breath of the Wild could easily be chalked up to an unreliable narrator (because those memories clearly take place from Zelda's perspective), artistic liberties, and expansion on the original lore (and why would the dev team show us the Breath of the Wild memories when 99% of their players will have played BotW and already seen that content?).

The time travel stuff is pretty simple. Any time there's time travel backwards, it creates a new branch in the timeline. Since the presence of the egg makes people do things they didn't do in its own past, the new branch has a chance of turning out differently from the old one.
Zelda sent a message from when she tried to save Link and she said: "I must save everyone!" The egg guard received the message through the mini radar that is attached to the top of the egg guardian, and the guardian goes back in time to try to warn Link, and more likely to be first, Zelda herself.

Variation two; (requires fourth swing heavy attack unlocked) initiate sheild surfing with X, press Y during surf to dash attack, after dash attack press Y three more times, then hold X to initiate a rising helicopter spin, while airborne press Y three times for a full light attack air combo, then press X to start slam attack, immediately cancel with ZR to fire bow.
That is the best link combo I have discovered so far. If you have any issues with any of the aforementioned steps I will be happy to clarify.

The egg could have always been there from the start. For example, think of how time travel works in Harry Potter. Weird inexplicable things happen until they go back in time and realize they were always there to begin with; them going back in time is what caused them to go back in time, therefore they were always a part of the original timeline.
This is why I’m going with my idea that we don’t know enough about “before the calamity” to ensure that this did or didn’t happen
That would be a kind of time travel called a closed loop. I think this ones gonna end up being a timeline branch. As he said, theres a branch where the egg never woke up (Aka BOTW) and one where the egg time traveled. If we take this possibility, then it could also be instead that there could be 3 timelines: the original BOTW without time traveling egg, The original egg timeline when it woke up, and the alternate timeline that branches off the egg’s original timeline at the point that it would have arrived in the past. This would leave the two almost identical “Calamity Timelines” and the “Egg Alternative Timeline”
It sounds alot more confusing than it actually is.
[BC: before calamity]
[EC: Egg calamity]
[AT: Alternate Timeline]
_-[AT]--
[BC]--/-----
Well, things like the guardian getting corrupted early, everyone being able to use the Shiekah Slate with all the runes, and the emergence of the tower in Hyrule Field all don't really line up with what we know about the pre-Calamity events. However, I'm still hopeful that things ultimately play out more or less the same, with Deviled Egg being another time traveler who basically counters all the changes that happen because Egg is there.
He didnt notice that egg time travel is what caused the divine beats to be found. It made them need to search for the beasts and look for the pilots to defeat the calamity, but that is what compelled ganon to take them over.
I think you strongly misunderstand how time travel could work when it comes to this game's story. There's plenty of videos on the grandfather paradox and how it's not one.
The somewhat simple version is that, as some of the chat pointed out, there's an alternate timeline that the guardian traveled back to. That means in the main timeline, it existed, but traveled back to the timeline Age of Calamity takes place in. This could alter events to the point a guardian cannot travel back in time (as you saw, a cutscene shows said guardian being infected by Malice). This entire game is likely a what-if scenario about what would happen if the characters of BotW defeated Calamity Ganon early somehow, most likely by becoming strong enough to overcome the various Blights and ultimately Calamity Ganon himself.
BotW's timeline, on the other hand, would be entirely unaffected since the guardian never traveled back in time to the timeline it takes place in.
There is already precedence for split timelines thanks to Ocarina of Time for similar reasons that are entirely based on Link's implicit decision, so justifying a spin-off game in such a way seems reasonable.
I totally agree with you; which is also why I‘m somewhat disappointed with this games plot. I was hoping AoC to be a more-or-less true prequel to BotW, and not an alternate timeline. An alternate timeline that will never lead to the main series games feels irrelevant, like a fanfic, and thus carries no weight.
(And if you want to tell me that the outcome might still be similar to the original timeline and the guardian travelling back in time might not affect anything, I‘ll have to respond that even so, the sequence of events and actions of the characters will be completely different, simply because they are aware of the future. Simply based on the demo, the future already has changed after all. I just wanted a prequel man... But heck, I‘ll buy this anyway.)
@@Buphido I think it's reasonable to not make it quite a true prequel. While it would be amazing to have one someday, being able to fight and defeat Calamity Ganon would likely be too big of a thing to simply ignore.
Furthermore, it's not like the story can fall back on a bittersweet ending like XC2's Torna expansion does. The party still wins in that story - that is not the case in a true BotW prequel. Because of this, it would feel utterly crappy to build up these characters who feel amazingly strong, only to get wrecked by the narrative and basically all but having a "Game Over" thrown into the faces of the players.
This is why it's likely that, much like the original Hyrule Warriors, the story will be self-contained so that unlikely scenarios that have no consequences on the main series narrative can play out.
Buphido I really think this is gonna be a prequel, we really don’t know a lot about what happened 100 years before BOTW so who’s to say they didn’t have images of the future. Also a personal theory of mine: the corrupted egg was sent by the mysterious hooded figure (the one from the trailer) and is aiding in bringing about the calamity. At some point in the story good egg is killed and bad egg is shutdown, Zelda keeps the powered down bad egg in a box in her study. Then when she awakens her power the once bad egg powers on, determined to save Zelda. Then the cycle continues as a closed loop, making Age of Calamity an actual sequel and meaning that there is no time split. But that’s just a theory
Every official Age of Calamity thing says that this is a direct prequel, and the exact events that happened 100 years ago. It's more likely that it's a timeloop rather than a split timeline.
This is what I keep telling people on reddit and they are like this wasn't necessary and only wanted a fucking game so morbid everyone has to die. Ocarina of Time had this different timeline split and they deified it to the point it had a cult following, the fuck, I'm sure this too will become one one day when the story is fully explained in the full game. Seriously, people saying this game will have a shit story is someone who didn't really care about botw

I will not lie, I did indeed cry tears of joy while playing this demo.
It is cool how they put runes and towers in the game withought breaking the story via time travel, because this is a different timeline
The egg that went back in time is the egg that is corrupted and the egg we see when the tower erupts from the ground is the egg that is from that current time.
That would be quite a plot twist lol but I don't think so, in trailer there's some kind of a villain (other than ganon), so the bad egg's probably their spy
I disagree cause it was said that the good egg with them was from the future
That’s impossible since the egg has the pictures of what the future looks like when Calamity wins
@@SoraArgoris yes another proof that good egg came from future
I think that the Good Egg is the egg from BOtW that never activates before the calamity, while the Bad Egg is the egg is from AotC wich got possesed by ganon when Good Egg went back in time (since in the opening cutscene you can see the malice getting absorbed in the portal

Also Pointcrow: Plays as Impa for the entire game
Eric whenever a game needs to have a seizure I know who I’m going to.
This is what i understood from the demo of the game please add something that you found missing or inaccurate
So basically the egg was somehow connected to Zelda as she was using her power to defend link in the opening cutscene (which we also saw in botw as one of the memories) the egg was activated and transported itself in the past that is pre calamity Hyrule. Then we see Impa running with the Shiekah slate which is not as usable as in botw (as we see in the memories) but it is able to activate the egg or the egg is able to activate the slate. Now that the slate is activated, we see a tower rise from the ground as they did in botw, also Link, Impa and Zelda are also able to use the ruins which were only usable after link woke up in the shrine of resurrection as he got them from the shrines which were inaccessible pre calamity (again as seen in the memories).
My theory here is that the egg travelling in time has caused a timeline split. I guess now that the shiekah slate is activated and the ruins are usable, they will be able to defeat the calamity. So to conclude botw timeline and this timeline both are different. BOTW happens when they are unable to defeat the calamity that is as we see in the opening cutscene when the egg enters the gate thingy. This game happens after the egg travels back in time and helps them win.
The only problem that i have come across with this theory is that why is there no mention of the egg in botw if it was totally present with Zelda and why didn't it activate the shiekah slate then when it could activate it after travelling back in time
Edit - I am thinking of time travel as it was explained in Avengers Endgame where they are going into different timelines to get the stones. Similarly the egg is going into a different timeline where it activates the shiekah slate before it was supposed to be activated according to the botw timeline. After the egg entered the gate, the normal timeline would have continued with them being defeated and link waking up 100 years later to defeat ganon.
from what it seems like, the egg in botw activated in response to the divine power. which zelda had never awoken prior.
@@iceneko9170 so you are meaning to say that Zelda's power activated the egg but it couldn't do anything because it was too late and even if it tried it wouldn't be able to do anything
@@Rabjot_Singh well, yes.
I doubt we can get the full details about it until the game is released, but that is the most logical conclusion I can pull about why it awakened at the time it did. non corrupted.
think about it a second longer
why, was this mini guardian, being targeted by a malice controlled guardian? if it wasnt giving off some sort of reading to make the guardian aggressive to it? you don't see the other guardians attacking each other.
my best guess is that the malice was responding to the divine power the guardian recieved to activate.
the real question is: why does it have a protocol to time travel?
its not like the timeline was completely defunct. the princess does have her power
so, perhaps, the guardian is programmed to travel back in time if the kingdom falls to the calamity before the princess of that time awakens her power.
like a fail-safe
I haven’t read it fully but there is one problem. How did Purab know about the camera rune if it wasn’t activated before?
To put the whole time travel thing into perspective:
In order to time travel and change something, you would need to create a "fixed point" in time.
A point in time where you travel backwards regardless of whether you succeeded in your task or not. You would need to decide before hand that regardless of what is happening around you or what has happened that you are going to travel at that exact point.
It's a lot harder than it sounds and it sounds pretty hard, but it is theoretically possible, but would typically require knowledge from your future self.
Alright here's my theory for the lore:
We must remeber two things: This is a spinoff and BoTW 2 is a continuation of BoTW 1.
Because of that, I think the calamity might actually be averted in this game.
See, in BoTW the egg travels back in time (nothing new to TLoZ, really) and creates a parallel timeline (also not really anything new, unfortunately), a timeline completely contained within itself that doesnt affect or converge with the main one (therefore perfect for a spinoff). And the only way for it to never "connect" back with the main timeline it's if a completely different outcome occurs. Aka the good guys win and calamity is averted. Or maybe they'll just kill Link lol.
Which then again could open a whole new timeline in and of itself (like Ocarina oT did)
I think they are going to call this game a prequel of BOTW, acknowledge the time split, and say they arent going to make games in the timeline where BOTW isnt effectively making zelda into one timeline. Just because there are multiple timelines, does not mean they have to make games in each timeline.
Im also tempted to believe that all routes lead to BOTW in some form no matter what happens, so the timeline split could have no impact in the end. Just makes the game more interesting.
What about two multiple endings? In one the egg gets deactivated, put in a crate and botw happens
And another one cause who knows what big N's up to?
Oh, so this is why I'm never on time to a PointCrow upload.
_It's one in the morning right now, and at the time of commenting this it's likely been an hour or so. The video says 19 minutes but the comments are about 40 minutes, and we all know that comments are more reliable when it comes to timing a post. It's way too early to watch this, I'm gonna be cackling like a crow while my family's asleep_
I thought it was just like DBZ or something? The BoTW timeline will always exist but there will be a fork where there's a time it never happened, like the Cell Saga
It's like the windmill guy from OoT, he teaches you the song in the future, you teach it him to him in the past. It's a paradox in the sense that it doesn't have a beginning. The song of storms has no known beginning, and instead just exists. I think that's how the egg works, it always existed and it going into the past doesn't effect anything.
I like the endgame explanation of timeline management, where the timeline where the thing is sent from stays the way it is, but the timeline where the thing is sent to diverges. So, crows "star" pattern is essentially a single branch with three inputs (not even going to touch that, nintendo couldnt pick a timeline, so they picked them all).
Even more basically, the calamity happened in the original timeline, then they sent egg back in time in an attempt to create a second, calamity-free timeline, not to save themselves.
@@MunkMan9 I agree but I hope the calamity still happens, I think it would add to the tragedy of the calamity knowing they couldn’t escape it
