@@themilesdriven possibly a marketing scheme. Remember what to the LandCruiser 200 in the USA sales increased towards the end of product due to the announcement that the vehicle will not be replaced.
I think the 2025.5 update is neatly done, as has been reflected also by journalists who've actually seen and driven it. It obviously wasn't planned to happen now as Volvo anticipated the EV market to take off in a faster pace (pure speculation). If they would have planned the model lifecycle with a more traditional approach, the update would probably have been better timed, to appear on the 90-series SPA cars already from 2021 or so (pure speculation). But from what I've seen, there are many more updated details on the new XC90 in addition to the screen and these thoughtful updates to make up a great refresh and a modern feeling cabin. Regarding the less integrated new screen - there are many clean sheet design with far worse designs IMHO.
