Ooh, I feel that is a bad take. Quirin is a very loving parent to Varian. It is so clear that he loves his son so much. The problems between them were definitely a two-way street. Quirin didn't know how to engage with Varian and Varian keot pulling feats to gain his approval that were only angering is Dad more and more.
I am forever salty that they had the "talk" about what Varian did while he was in suspended animation off-screen, so we, the audience, didn't get to see how that conversation and how they came to an understanding of each other after the fact played out.

May I ask for an extended version with even more interaction between Varian and Rapunzel? I love this video, particularly the very beginning, before Varian turns evil, as those were much happier interactions between the two. I remember some more happy, wholesome interactions between Rapunzel and Varian during the Science Expo episode, like when Rapunzel talks to Varian about Cassandra and Varian proceeds to *fall down the stairs*, or when Varian sheepishly asks-not-asks if Cassandra will be at the Expo. This video is already very great, especially the edits (0:22, 1:16), but it couldn’t hurt to ask. 🙂
