    Even though I’d love to see you do a conversation on it with more power I think keeping it standard would be the right thing to do on this particular car. A straight Audi will always sell well, modifying it will reduce your selling market especially during these times when a lot of people are watching the pennies. Either way it will be good content Dean. 👍🏽😎

  • @gosportjamie
    @gosportjamie 4 роки тому +2

    Yes, that looks like a pretty good sign of total turbo failure...
    I'd put it back to standard, if you modify it to S3 standard then the next owner is going to be paying S3 insurance premiums, unless they don't disclose the mods to the insurance, in which case they won't pay out if you crunch it. These were fairly popular with people who couldn't afford, or didn't want to pay S3 money and insurance, and it's likely they still are as they give a lot of the S3 driving experience at a much more affordable level...

  • @alancampbell1008
    @alancampbell1008 4 роки тому

    Think I'd put it to standard. Might just be my age but over 100k is a leggy engine to try to double it's power without stripping and rebuilding it completely I would imagine the oil looking fresh is probably because it's been refilled so often with it burning/losing it rather than an indication of care.

  • @ctiley2212
    @ctiley2212 4 роки тому

    Don't complain about rain - we'd love some - love the sound of rain. You said how pleased you are that the car hadn't been modified, so logic says a lot of other people would think the same, thus making it harder to sell when completed if you modify or "upgrade" it. Also people like to do their own modifications to suit their tastes and desires so I'd take it back to standard, clean and detail it and you should maximise your profit, thus allowing a better project next time.

  • @mricemantoyou

    Maybe get the turbo modified with a larger set of impellers and remap... So it's standard on the outside but modified on the inside? There's a UK company that does that... Not sure of the scope of it with the current turbo castings?
    And 4 matching tyres is always a good idea with 4wd 😊
    Good luck either way 🍀🤞

    If you’re going to keep it go k04 and stage 2+ with all the toys. Will be a great fun car to drive having had a stage 2+ edition 30 myself with 360bhp I know this well :)
    However a standard k03 A3 all straight and true will sell easy and it’s quick cash turnaround for yourself. More a limited market selling an older A3 with a conversion but I’m sure you already know this as you’re a very knowledgeable guy. Look forward to the next one Dean.

    My son as a S3 with the same engine. I run my own Mechanics business and rebuilt the top end for him. Not easy engine to work in the car and it looks like you are going to be doing the turbo on yours. The exhaust manifold is a pig to remove a lot of bolts you can not see and the left hand side were the turbo is is almost impossible to remove and even worse to get back on in reassembling it .
    My advise his to drop the engine to work on it a lot easier. Good luck and looking forward to more videos.

  • @jokerash

    intermittent errors are because of low battery voltage on these cars. charge the battery, clear codes, run the engine for 10 mins and check codes again. then you will have a true image of which codes are thrown. i had this on my E60 BMW , on low voltage battery i had a TON of weird fault codes.

    Haha you bought the same car as me! Mines Ebony Pearl, bought it for a cheap in between car after returning a RCZ THP to the finance company due to having it 3 days and the head gasket going, it then broke down 2 more times after that. Any way the A3 drove so much nicer and I’ve fell in love it so kept it! Mine has the lighting pack, auto wipers but no parking sensors.
    Some great content would be changing the timing chain, as I bet yours has started to be noisy on startup, Cam end seals, carbon clean from intake, pcp valve (smoke from crank case due to blockage?), upgrading the turbo to the K04 perhaps, retro fitting things like cruise control, (only needs the stalk and VCDS) lighting pack etc.

    I think that, even though it’s fairly clean body wise, you’re not going to keep it, it’s a flipper imo. New turbo, sundries, service (poss timing belt kit?), MOT and let someone else have their fun with it if that’s what they want to do? Really enjoy this channel mate. Inspiring

    Nice project . Keep it standard. New tyres, brakes and recon turbo will be almost a grand. After all the work is done, should get 3.5k to 4k for it. Is it cat N or unrecorded? Thanks.

    Great video dean. Definitely go down the mod and upgrade route, if it fit in budget, as it is an old car. But definitely needs a tidy up.

    Keep it original. That's how it was designed, and you will hopefully get some money for your time. The turbo swap is a good learning project for us all.

    Keep it standard, give it a good tidy up & get it running sweet, see what you can get back from it & it would be a nice cheap car for someone. 👍🏼 look forward to the engine/turbo investigation...

    I’d keep it standard as with the age/mileage increasing the power will probably cause more problems, possibly with the drivetrain and probably wouldn’t increase the value. Enjoying the videos 👍🏻

    Keep it stock, Maybe a small increase in power of 20% is ok(250bhp is sweet spot) but doubling the power of this engine is risky - Almost certain end of that engine.

    Just upgrade to black front grill (£240 from Audi) and maybe the newer rear lights and a simple stage 1 remap transforms these into near a stock S3 approx 250bhp the k03 spools up early nice low down torque will leave a 3.2 with stage 1, S3 parts to expensive for a conversion S3s that shape 3dr not going for that much

    It must be the turbo because I had the exact same engine problem as you ! I sent the turbo to be rebuilt and had to do a major major clean of all the air intake system !!! And I had to have it Walnut blasted ! Tfsi are terrible for carbon buildup.

    once you've determined the fix, I'd look at both options and consider which the most advantageous modified to k04 (S3) 'sleeper' spec will make it more expensive to buy and insure and will have a smaller market appeal, back to standard might have a wider market but make less money. But as modified it might stick! depends if the turbo is an easy fix or not. Or find a buyer and then give them the choice.
