my dad used to put this on the radio alllll the time when we went places. big childhood song along with crocodile rock
This song has one of my favorite guitar solo's ever! I mean, where on earth did that come from? Dave's a freakin' legend!
My all time favorite musician.
Yes i agree i wish i heard of him in the late 80s to 90s
A master who never, and still hasn't, rec'd the credit due, like WAY too many others
Quite so !
Always loved this one!
dave edmunds is a legend
great song by Dave Edmund's His big hit was i hear u knocking
Amazing!
1980. Tiffanys . Glasgow. Rockpile. I was there.
Another great Dave recording of a "down and out" theme along with "Worn out Suits with Brand New Pockets" - didn't know this was a single - didn't chart? - well the lyrics tell the tale - 45 sleeves look great - nice job...
The solo is by Gerry Hogan (as in Albert Lee and Hogan's Heroes) on pedal steel guitar.
This would A1 on my jukebox.
Got that right Sunset, but it WAS a fave on the jukeboxes in every music bar in Washington DC for YEARS
The weirdest guitar solo ever. I'm fed up trying to understand it. Best just to enjoy it,Amazing!!!
I love this solo! It's different, but it's awesome!
just rediscovered him and Rockpile and Nick Lowe
Lyrics:
When I started out, I thought that I would make it double quick
I had that kind of confidence that I was picked to click
But if you could stand in my shoes, you wouldn't feel so smart
'Cause I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
My agent gives me spending cash, his pockets seem so deep
I'd live just like a millionaire if it were mine to keep
But money ain't the problem, no, it ain't even a part
When you're A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
A1 on the jukebox, played in every bar
A1 on the jukebox, big Wurlitzer star
I'm nowhere in the hit parade, 'cause no one likes my art
And I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
(Instrumental interlude)
A1 on the jukebox, played in every bar
A1 on the jukebox, big Wurlitzer star
I'm nowhere in the hit parade, 'cause no one likes my art
And I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
I spend a fortune on the plays that take my every cent
I see my name in black and white, but words don't pay the rent
I know that I could fill a room, if only I could start
But I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
And I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere on the chart
Yes, I'm A1 on the jukebox and nowhere... (fades out)

Dave Edmunds late seventies output was better than the early seventies material.

Rockpile all the way. Billy Bremner on lead guitar. Nov. 1980, Cleveland Agora.
dave on guitar
I believe Nick Lowe on harmony vocals
How deceiving.
