Supposedly the last song Steve ever worked on. It has all the hallmarks of a Hysteria type ballad, like those constant clean arpeggios and that really saturated Rockman sound. To think Steve’s light burnt out after this is just brutal, the solo especially gives off a kind of mournful feel, one last contribution to the music that defined a decade, a final bit of that awesome melodic thing he always did, all of it almost foreshadowing what would happen. A shame it was rearranged so much on the official recording, it doesn’t punch the same way.
@@Me37368 No doubt about it, the outro solo on Photograph appearing in their live concert video, In The Round In Your Face, is far greater! It's ashame it wasn't on the original recording of Photograph, appearing on the Pyromania Album 1983. Nevertheless, we have it live! Peace To All
Just ran across this. UNBELIEVABLE!! This is a THOUSAND times better than the studio version IMHO. Steve's passion was one of a kind. He could make a guitar cry and weep and moan, or scream with excitement. He's who inspired me to pick up the electric guitar. I would really love it if the band would release a 25th anniversary compilation of ALL of Steve's unreleased demo tracks, etc. as a tribute to Steve. Steve was a different chapter in the bands history, but without him I don't think we'd have the modern version of DL either, again, IMHO. Thanks for posting this.
I think the real def leppard died with him. These past 20+ years, it seems the surviving members of the band were living off of what steve had left (demos), such as this. The moment they went country was when i knew they'd lost it, and had no more demos of steve to create off of. Steve was DEF LEPPARD.
Lyrics left out of the demo: *_Love is the reason why I can't let go_* *_Like a king without a throne_* and for the ad-lib: *_One night without you, baby, could break a heart of stone_*
This makes me cry, 😭, I miss Steve Clark, he is such a good guitarist, just like yngwie malmsteen and Robin cosby from ratt, #longlivehairmetalandhardrockandnwobhm
Still cant believe I could find this record. This was the last solo demo record he did before he died. Just so sad he wasnt there when this song was released.
@@codyy205 Slang is one of those very rare albums thats neither bad nor superb, just interesting.. Way different to what they were releasing 3-4 years prior

+Kevin Crone Actually they didn't run out of time believe it or not. They had so many ideas and demos already made for their new songs to be released in up coming albums. Before Adrenalize was even released Steve Clark died and so they basically had to remake all that they already had made because it would sound way different without him, that's why songs like "When Love and Hate Collide", "Tonight", and "Stand Up" all sound different from their original demos.
I could be wrong but I don't know for sure if it was supposed to be on Adrenalize.... I know that Stand Up Kick Love Into Motion was supposed to be on Hysteria but it sounded too much like Love Bites....? I THINK! Have you ever heard the Stand Up Kick Love Into Motion demo with Steve Clark? Forget about it, soooo good! Just like this song!
Phil Collen plays Steve's parts on adrenalized and he said Steve had such a unique style it took longer to do Steve's part since they didn't want a session player doing any of Steve's part .they did the album as a 4 some then added Vivian after it was finished introduce Vivian at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.
I heard a secret girlfriend he had in the states not Janie dean another supposedly her name was Mary Saint she worked at a yankee bar she wouldn't be his girlfriend but he was supposed to have really loved her she wouldn't date him because he hadn't broke up with Janie....Just what I heard
Whats really wrong with your ears man? NOTHING like Love Bites solo. Steve had a sound that he owned, and it shows. I really dont hear the comparison, although, I can understand what youre saying as Phil has more of the solos on the more recent music, and you can 'DEF' tell when Steve has a solo, but I do not believe it sounds like the Love Bites solo. Thumbs up if you think this is one of the best solos Steve has ever recorded?
J C no that would be his solo on wasted
J C or his photograph outro solo on the hysteria tour

@Owen Miller I agree. I like both versions, but the demo has more energy on the guitar solo
Steve's solo.....beautiful, perfect, unique.
This whole demo is the most beautiful demo I've heard
Has a touch of the hysteria era - i like it
The Hysteria era - probably my favorite era.

I imagine Def Leppard performing this song with a style reminiscent to the early demo version of it. Especially in a re-recording.

4:50 is amazing perfect delivery from joe Elliot and Steve playing with that part gives it that goosebump haunting beautiful sound
Me encanta esta vercion con steve Clark genio
I can't listen to the studio version anymore after hearing this. This is objectively better than the one being played on the radio.
Beautiful song. I just love Joe's voice. I could listen to the different versions all day long.💋
This one really sounded like Love Bites II.
Steve Clark is playing in this version.
THIS is the version that should've been released. At least on Vault for the fans.
lsterner12@gmail.com this demo should've been on vault and make the final product for Slang

where can we download an album full of demos by Def Leppard? :)) its nice
Steve is the best forever...
This is the best version of this song! Long live White Lightning, The Riff Master!!
Steve did the best solos
This is peak Joe Elliot. His voice has even more range and power here than on the final "Vault" version.
Beautiful! 💜

WOW!
I love the Riffmaster
By far would have been one of their best songs if they left it like this
Fantastic!
@Defleppard96 a few versions of the When Love & Hate Collide single CD has the original demo on its track list, I have the Japan release.

They used a Rockman A LOT during the 80s/early 90s.
