I’ve really respected Indie Arie since I found you when you came out with “Video”...... you are pretty cool.....I still do respect what you stand for....🏔❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
EXACTLY!! I am 22 and I remember her first album coming out (I was like 4) and It was mind blowing for me then. I was so little and singing this song in the car! I would sing Video, I am not my hair, and There’s hope to the point where I’d forgotten about the songs and heard them like two years ago and sang every word. This woman’s lyricism and spirituality is just so amazes and to think she was so young writing these songs is amazing
I remember you sitting outside Women's Empowerment in Raleigh NC in 1996! You were outside with your guitar and a demo, that we all still have !!!!! That was 23 years ago!!!
I LOVEEEEE YOU SO MUCH QUEEN I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOU SINCE YOU CAME OUT ... YOU INSPIRE ME SO MUCH AND I WOULD LIVE TO MAKE A SONG WITH YOU OMGGGG MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ....YOU ARE MY NUMBER ONE ARTIST ..... #LOVEYOUQUEEN
You have helped me so much through very hard times in my life. I love the messages behind your music. This particular song is one of many I would listen to over, and over, and over etc. (to this day)... That was beautiful. Thank you India. 💙
Good on you, sis! I swear, the older generation fed us some bs because of the stuff they had to go through to fit in, but I'm grateful that my mother and I broke the chains of generational negativity and did whatever we wanted with our hair with a confidence that my grandmothers didn't get to enjoy, and my daughter has even more confidence that even I had. I am so grateful for this song, I love seeing the creativity of my black sisters and brothers, and I think humbly with respect for what our ancestors had to go through to get us to this point. I'm sending you love right now, because we are still having to deal with racism and discrimination based on our hair, and there's *still* work to be done. Let's all continue the work, and support each other while it's being done! 💜😑🙌💜
✔✔✔💯i will NEVER FORGET when you Came& Performed in BUFFALO New York FOR FREE & THE WHOLE CITY CAME & U WERE SUPRISED😂😂😂& sung this song Gosh i love u happy to see u stilll singing i was 12 back then ill be 28 soon much LOVE

No matter what race you are, you can connect to India's music. Thank you so much for blessing us with your generous love and soul India. Your lyrics are what the world needs, it's speaks on a universal level-love.
I recently had an experience where some of my hair broke off and this is the song I sing to encourage myself to say my hair does not define who I am but it is God within that defines me as God's Purposeful Daughter designed with purpose!!! Thank you India
This song came out around the time that I was convicted and firm in the decision to wear my hair natural before it was popular and before it was more mainstream like it is today. I stuck with it despite the societal pressures, mostly from my own people, about straightening it or getting a perm or anything to change my natural texture. And now 15 years later when being natural is more acceptable and even protected by law, I’m glad to see that we’re finally supported in wearing our natural texture and can celebrate our unique beauty and features that have been suppressed for so long! India and this song were pioneers in this movement and she herself had to struggle with criticism about her embracing her natural beauty just like so many of us! I appreciate you soul sista for all your empowering lyrics and positive image of a proud Black woman!! ✊🏿
😭😭😭 YES YES AND YESS!!!!!! This is what we need to hear 👏👏👏
