going over to sleep at your bestfriends house for 2 days and fighting with them and bonding with their family instead was so accurate i cried laughing 😭
THIS SHOW SPOKE TO MY SOUL - as a half asian girl who struggled terribly in middle school, Maya's character had me in tears at some points. Especially when she was looking at her face in the mirror during the racism episode, and you can see how unhappy she felt with her asian heritage in that moment. That shit SPOKE TO ME!! And then the both of them together had me in tears during the comedic scenes, in a good way. PLEASE MORE EPISODES!! best show ever!
I'm half Polynesian and that episode spoke to me. It seemed she didn't feel White enough or Asian enough and she wanted to know what it would be like if she was more asian or more white.
I completely agree with her when she says that we never leave our middle school selves. I feel like we are more refined versions of that part of ourselves. I teach middle school because it’s such an important part of life! They captured the cringe and the beauty of that point in life
I love the fact that as adults they wanted to create a show for other adults about Middle School situations and memories but basically like she said make it an R-rated version. So us adults could laugh and enjoy it more...but actually relate! I already finished both seasons in less than a week. Love these Queens! One of the best shows of 2020 for sure.
This show is one of my favorites of all time. She really did do a good job on portraying it as a memory. I think thats why their emotions were so big and the other kids were more mute
For ppl upset by 30s playing 13 yr old. The show takes place in the year 2000. The art in them being 30 playing 13 is that this is exactly what it was like for us 30 year olds in the year 2000. Its cool to be taken back and reminded. It wouldnt carry the same meaning if it was 13 yr olds today pretending then knew what it was like in the year 2000. It be weird. Maybe your not in the right generation to understand.
Many don’t understand how much has changed in the past 8 or so years and how differently hyper sexualized and unsympathetic to emotional intelligence in youth even in the late 90s and early 00s and the era captured in the show. It’s so brilliantly done. I’m a dude. And this connected to my youth in a way as you and they have said no other show has touched before. Season 2 is great. It goes so fast but it’s good. Season 3 will be amazing they have to keep making it!
it was amazing. i loved seeing what theyd include that i remember, and they got most of it. even in interviews they talk about things I was and still am into. theyd be good friends lol. im so sad this show is done. just finished it yesterday
I'm 26 and I absolutely love this show!! I can relate to a lot of the emotions/experiences Maya and Anna have, although I didn't have such a BFF to share them with
He mentions how they hold their bodies when acting and I agree--and to add--I noticed how the most popular girl in class (in Pen15) has good, mature posture and isn't trying to hide anything.
them referencing *Welcome To The Dollhouse* just made me love these girls x this show even more, literally my favorite fucking movie ever!!! not a lot of people are hip to that gem either. GENIUS AS FUCK!!!
I just started watching PEN15, and I told my wife about it. She asked me what it was like, and I told her that it was like 'Welcome To The Dollhouse'. My wife introduced me to indie films back when started dating about 20 years ago. I think she'll definitely enjoy it.
I just finished the episodes that are there and holy shit 😭. I was never a teenage girl but I was a teenage boy and "Sam" and "Choji" was most definitely me at different points . The detail in how they wrote all the characters is so insane I was laughing and crying. My sister and her best friend reminded me so much of Maya and Anna and how Maya would fight with her brother and how Anna had a slight crush on him was so goddamn spot on. Just the idea that these 2 preteens felt as thoe the events that were happening was the most important events in their lives is heartbreaking and so relatable. Cuz we all felt that way. Little did we know that HS would come packaged with a whole other layer of shit and then life after that. Middle school was a strange time for alot of us and I love and appreciate how well these 2 ladies captured that. #Fuckbrandt
Officially proclaimed as my favorite TV show ever, they are geniuses and i will forever sing their praises, everyone should watch this show especially women!! 🥳🥳💖💖
This show is so on point it's crazy, especially for me as an Asian American I relate so much with Maya. These 2 characters are hilarious! So funny I sometimes can't breathe, I literally piss my panties laughing. It blows my mind how creatively funny this show is and how talented these actresses are, the show, the cast, the script is absolutely genius! I'm super grateful for this show and blessed to be a huge fan!
Easily the best show of 2019. Super well written. Funny almost all the time, except in the episode Posh that had many serious parts but incredibly well done and seen by the eyes of 13 year old girls. Amazing. Love it.
I loved this show really took me back in time when I was that age the music,AIM/AOL the slang,Note passing and the stupid shit I did with my friends Iat that age😂 I really hope this show gets a second season I love the characters and connect with Maya being asian and kinda awkward trying to fit in 💖👍
The costumes are great, and make them feel for young but it's still funny that they're talking to middle school boys. Makes the wshow have so many weird and interesting moments.
I totally thought they pull off 13 yo s, I didn’t know they were in their 30s at first. And even knowing that now I still think they absolutely are those characters. It had a lot to do with their ability to fully emerge themselves in the language, facial expressions, nuanced body language- they have to have gotten some Best Actress awards & wins, they are just that good.
I'd like to see a "making of" clip because the leg shaving scene seems was sooooo over the top I'd like to know how they got a suitable amount of hair on their legs. And the throbbing monster scene was only reinforced by Maya's glazed looks the whole rest of the episode. That's what sold it.

going over to sleep at your bestfriends house for 2 days and fighting with them and bonding with their family instead was so accurate i cried laughing 😭
I related to this episode in such an odd and specific way 😭 definitely the best episode
And how after two days everything they did annoyed the hell out of you 🤣 so funny
sooo freakin accurate and the aim “boyfriends” lol
😂😂
Yesss this always happened with friends/cousins that stayed longer than one night and I've never seen it depicted in media until watching this lol

Me too! I’ve never seen such accurate depictions of my childhood haha
I’m half Asian too and I’m happy to see other mixed kids like me heavily relating to her
I completely agree with her when she says that we never leave our middle school selves. I feel like we are more refined versions of that part of ourselves. I teach middle school because it’s such an important part of life! They captured the cringe and the beauty of that point in life
-Pen15 and Broad City are two of the most brilliant comedies of the last 5 years.
@@nphardin1 right!? Seasons 1&2 of Broad City were the best. Season 3 was good but I could tell it was starting to lose its shine by then.
Penny Lane add Alone Together to that list as well...these millennial comedians are changing the game forsure
hate to say i haven’t watched Broad City at all. need to get on that.
This was the absolute most relatable show I’ve ever seen hands down the funniest too
I feel so weird when I ship Sam and Maya
MissxPetrovax3 same 😭 omg
Totally ship them.
I ship it

Especially AIM ♡
i was in middle school from 2011-2013 and i even related a lot to this. so good
it was amazing. i loved seeing what theyd include that i remember, and they got most of it. even in interviews they talk about things I was and still am into. theyd be good friends lol. im so sad this show is done. just finished it yesterday
Best show I’ve seen in a long time. These two chicks are brilliant. I’m sad i watched it so quickly and now there’s no more episodes.
My thoughts exactly!!

I sooo agree wish there was more ep for season 1 come on season 2 😀
took the words right out of my mouth! Literally captured exactly what it was like at that age. Absolutely BRILLIANT

The dance scene for the last episode made me SO happy. That song brings back so many great memories. All the songs in this show do 💕
I'm 26 and I absolutely love this show!! I can relate to a lot of the emotions/experiences Maya and Anna have, although I didn't have such a BFF to share them with

them referencing *Welcome To The Dollhouse* just made me love these girls x this show even more, literally my favorite fucking movie ever!!! not a lot of people are hip to that gem either. GENIUS AS FUCK!!!

Lol this show was so accurate
Erskine and Konkle are BRILLIANT. Comedic and dramatic geniuses. And they're fearless as actors.
Along with Broad City, Pen15 is by far one of my favorite female fronted shows! So much thought, and clever humor.
There were times when they really seemed 13!!! They did an amazing job, deserves more recognition no doubt.
this show is so full of heart, and so real but still so funny!! one of my favorite shows of the year. these ladies did a great job!!
I love this show so damn much! Every time they show Anna’s family, I cry because I went through the same thing at her age!
I'm 45 and can relate already binged it, love it.
This show is AMAZING! More episodes please!!!
So glad to have come across this show! It's brilliant!
Stumbled upon this recently and fell in love with it. Binged all night last night.

the way maya (using names from the show because i’m not sure) looks at anna when she’s talking for validation is so comforting to me
their names from the show are the same as irl :)
Wow, I didn’t even recognize them for a moment, just goes to show how much of a difference makeup and hair can make I guess! Love this show🥰❤️
Officially proclaimed as my favorite TV show ever, they are geniuses and i will forever sing their praises, everyone should watch this show especially women!! 🥳🥳💖💖

This is one of my top favorite shows ever!!! I can’t wait until December 3rd when the second half of season 2 comes out!!! ❤️
How can I "ship" Maya and Sam/Anna and Alex though cuz it's too weird. I get so convinced they're actually 13 that I forget they're 30.
Easily the best show of 2019. Super well written. Funny almost all the time, except in the episode Posh that had many serious parts but incredibly well done and seen by the eyes of 13 year old girls. Amazing. Love it.

Best fucking show about teenagers EVER!
can you change the thumbnail so it's Anna and Maya? this video would get way more traffic! love them!
I'd like to see a "making of" clip because the leg shaving scene seems was sooooo over the top I'd like to know how they got a suitable amount of hair on their legs.
And the throbbing monster scene was only reinforced by Maya's glazed looks the whole rest of the episode. That's what sold it.
wow they are both beautiful.
Wild Things music jokes 😂
Pls make season 2
Why why is this the only talk show where each person holding a mic is that symbolic of something
My best friend is an actor in that show
As who
I feel like the woman getting out of the car in the background at 21:53 is a big deal.
I always wondered why her and the mom really look alike
He so enjoyed watching fantasy show of 13 girls... lets think about that.
who thinks Alex and brandit is so cute
I love this show so hilarious
My first SN was based on a character from Popular! Marycherry117 lol
19:30 LMAO
Sooo true as a girl I'm surprised I never realized how much masturbation is shamed in women compared to men. Explains a lot 😅
Brilliant show. A welcome relief from how terrible BROAD CITY has become.
POV: You came here to see if they are really that crazy.
For me it was Peter Luna
